Are any of these good for a November wedding?

It's in a hotel so formal-ish but not posh.

I am short and fat. I want a sleeved dress I can wear again. I know these will all need to be taken up.

  1. Red. Love this but is the colour OTT? I'm not sure the dropping hem would work for my height.
  2. Green
  3. Blue. Love this too but I'm only 38 and this may be too old?
  4. Purple. Not keen on the pattern but I had this dress in a different pattern and adored it. Is it smart enough though?

No. 4 is lovely. The red is a bit bright. The blue and green are a bit mate only.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 15/10/2018 22:22

Matronly (not mate only?!)

Tisthedev · 15/10/2018 22:24

Damn it, if only 4 was in a different pattern.

Thank you by the way.

I don't think any of them would work on a short person tbh. They're swamping the super tall, thin models in the photos. Too much material.

I say that as a fellow shortarse btw. I'd be absolutely lost in any of those!

They're also all a bit matronly.

Jack65 · 15/10/2018 22:26

If you could have the print of 4 in the design of 3 that would be perfect. If you are short having a tie belt will cut you in two and is not the most flattering for you.

huttub · 15/10/2018 22:27

All of them are fine but I dislike the green personally.

Pinkyyy · 15/10/2018 22:28

I'm afraid they seem to give off more of a work wear vibe to me rather than wedding. Try Chi Chi London, they do some lovely dresses that are perfect for attending a wedding and there are usually some good bargains to be had in their sale section!

Tisthedev · 15/10/2018 22:31

I hate clothes shopping.

Thank you. I'll check out ChiChi London.

If you are short and chubby I definitely wouldn't wear the red dress with the dropped hem, even shortened (if it could be) it would swamp you.

Tisthedev · 15/10/2018 22:38

Some pretty dresses on ChiChi London but very few with sleeves and none I'll wear again. Both of with are requirents. :)

Sorry, that last sentance sounding snarky. I didn't mean to. I appreciate your suggestion.

What dress size are you OP?

And your budget?

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 15/10/2018 22:44

I had a November wedding. There were a lot of reds, black and navy's on the guests.

MarthasGinYard · 15/10/2018 22:47

No Op sorry and 4 doesn't say wedding to me at all.

Put yourself in the hands of S&B posters they've dressed me numerous times

snowgal · 15/10/2018 22:50

Well to rock the boat.. I really like no.1, it's bright and life affirming but I bet it's comfy to wear and it's got pockets! I think the angled hemline stops it lòoking office appropriate

Tisthedev · 15/10/2018 22:51

I'm a 14 / 16 depending on the cut. I have a big tummy and bum.

Budget wise I'd like to spend maybe £70ish but could spend more.

I need at least 3/4 length sleeves and a dress I will wear again.

Thank you for your help.

What colouring Op
Hair etc?

WinnieFosterTether · 15/10/2018 22:56

Personally I think they're all quite unforgiving and would show up every lump and bump.
Have a look at Finery London. They have lots of dresses with sleeves, clever draping or belts and nice patterns that would suit work and a wedding.

Tisthedev · 15/10/2018 22:57

Colour wise, I would LOVE something in airforce blue. I like plums and rose colours. Greens are good.

Black, mustards, yellows and cream/white are nos.

I like quirky patterns but not large.

What about this? But over budget but you could definitely wear again

Tisthedev · 15/10/2018 23:12

I do like that green one a lot, especially the colour but I need something less fitted on my bottom half.
This is why.
This dress fits (the rouching is part of the design) and I don't have the right underwear on but um yeah...
To be clear, the white dress is not on my possible list. Grin

My knickers aren't tight on the pic, I do have that much of a dip.
