Are any of these good for a November wedding?

It's in a hotel so formal-ish but not posh.

I am short and fat. I want a sleeved dress I can wear again. I know these will all need to be taken up.

  1. Red. Love this but is the colour OTT? I'm not sure the dropping hem would work for my height.
  2. Green
  3. Blue. Love this too but I'm only 38 and this may be too old?
  4. Purple. Not keen on the pattern but I had this dress in a different pattern and adored it. Is it smart enough though?

How about something like this?

The green dress with flash of colour (coral?) in the skirt would camouflage your shape, and with the hem taken up you would get rid of a bit of the skirt fullness. If you could find earrings in the colour of the flash it would dress it up bit.

As it's in a hotel you probably won't be wearing a hat?

Tisthedev · 15/10/2018 23:32

I like that confusedmum. What colour vest underneath? Maybe pale plum?

No hat or anything. Hoping to get a low side bun otherwise just lose hair.

I wouldn't wear that dress a lot but would do for works christmas party.

Not sure if your taste or style as your initial choice is quite eclectic but check out Lindybop - they do all different styles and cuts.
I think if you have a big tummy and bum then you might want a fit and flare dress as they hide a multitude of sins, some of the dresses you can wear petticoats with to make them more “wedding-y” then wear without for a more casual look, I’ve done that with about 5 different dresses from there x

Bodear · 15/10/2018 23:39

Please don’t wear a pale lace dress for a wedding! There are plenty of other options so why would you?

Skittlesandbeer · 15/10/2018 23:44

I have your body shape, and I loooove frock shopping!

The most flattering styles for me are 1940’s/50’s cut, with thicker (some elastane) fabrics.

Try lindybop & collectif vintage, the plainer (less costumy) styles. Some beautiful necklines, and knee length (perhaps better than midi for you & I). Steer clear of the wiggle dress styles (tight around hips/bum). More the A-line.

They are easy to accessorise too, a wrap, fitted jacket, matching clutch & shoes (Mary Jane style). Flower in your hair, done.

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 15/10/2018 23:48

There is a great site called Joanie. They do the vintage style stuff they don't just show it all in skinny models they also have some 'plus size' models so you get to see how it hangs etc. They have really nice stuff on there and reasonably priced as well.

Tisthedev · 15/10/2018 23:52

Thanks. I won't shop at Lindybop anymore. I had some issues with them, that was years ago so maybe they have sorted them out but not worth the fuss for me. Plus their dresses are V. V. popular and are recognisable a mile off which I'd rather not.
Nothing at Collectif unfortunately. I have their trixie dress which I adore but have to wear a vest under it otherwise I show all my underwear! 😂

Will take a look a Joanie. I've not heard of it. Thank you.

I like the red one

AdaColeman · 16/10/2018 00:14

Have you had a look at Phase Eight or Warehouse? A lot of their styles have sleeves and well within your price range.

Thatstheendofmytether · 16/10/2018 01:01

The green and red are the same dress just different lengths, they do short, regular and tall and it comes in navy and pink aswell I think.

I’m a short arse and I find tea dress styles suit me. Since they are fitted at the top, but loose in the skirt, they don’t drown me as much as a lot of dresses do. So maybe do a search for tea dresses?

HenryMouse · 16/10/2018 01:06

Against the grain here but I LOVE the green one. Accessories in the pink colour, it would look fab.

Shadow1234 · 16/10/2018 01:46

Have a look at Debenhams - I have bought a few lovely outfits for weddings from them.

SpeckledyHen · 16/10/2018 06:04

Take a look at John Lewis on line . Filter : Dress . 3/4 sleeve . In stock only . By price

Lots of choice and inspiration.

feedmewinenow · 16/10/2018 06:20

It's has pockets! I have a similar shape to you and the skirt on this flares out and skims everything. Belt gives you a waist and a thick material that doesn't cling.

Get lots of compliments every time I wear it so might be worth a go. Sizes are generous too. Jasper Conran at Debenhams and though it says lilac, it's more a rich blue.

I STILL REALLY REALLY LIKE DRESS NO. 4!!

Sulks.

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 16/10/2018 10:28

You need something that flares from the waist - have you looked at Bombshell HQ?

LIVIA999 · 16/10/2018 10:34

Am I the only one that loves number 2. I'm short and would wear that with heels and a clutch. I think it's gorg.,

HenryMouse · 16/10/2018 10:56

Yes I still like 2! It’s got the lot, autumn colours, the more formal style that’s in for weddings (lacey, skater and flouncy is so two years ago) and the potential to be as dressy or not as you like. Match the pink for shoes and bag... fab!

MoltonSilver · 16/10/2018 12:17

I like all of the dresses that you have linked but I think you should avoid a round neck. I think that dress number 4 is a great shape for your figure.
