Scented Candles for the house

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 23/09/2018 09:34

Hi I'm looking for a scented candle for the house to make it feel fresh and nice in these colder months.

I've used white company the last few years but I was disappointed last year as they didn't burn evenly and therefore lasted a lot short time, plus they are ££££

Anone have an others they 'swear by'?

thx

always Neom.

Since moving into our new house I've gone off candles for the most part- my last place was dotted in sooty patches where I would've had Yankees burning, and I'd always put them out using the lids and didn't leave them on too long. I have a few soy candles from the Bearded Candlemakers as they're less smokey- Shells Seaside Cafe is my favourite. If you use the lid to put them out and have them burning an hour at a time they won't tunnel.

I mostly prefer diffusers now as they give off a constant scent without smoke/flames. DH and I were chatting earlier that The White Company's seem to have the most bang for their buck. I get the Fir scented one for Christmas time and it's lovely.

I also use Peatcense (link) for cosy winter evenings, smells like a real peat fire without the mess.

The Zara Home ones are fantastic... I e been getting them for about the last five years and the price has always been 19.99... this year, I just got two for 17.99! New full price.

I love them, especially gardenia and white orchid...

My sister got me a gorgeous candle from Melt. It's their "dance" fragrance and it wafts the most lovely scent even when unlit.

SallyOMalley · 23/09/2018 22:58

True Grace is my favourite brand. The 'Orangery' scent is lovely in winter. The candles last for ages and the smell isn't too strong (which I find with Yankee candles - they give me a headache!).

L238 · 23/09/2018 23:01

H&M home do lovely ones,
Good scent and less ££ than most

Didsomeonesaybunny · 23/09/2018 23:03

I love candles both expensive and inexpensive. My fave brands are;

Byredo
Dipytique
Jo Malone (sometimes)
Neom
Tom Dixon
Aldi range
Victoria Cator

Funkyferret · 23/09/2018 23:47

I have stupid price Jo Malones and the Aldi dupes - and seriously, the Aldi are just as good. I find the Yankees just too strong and synthetic for a prolonged burn but great for a quick blast to get rid of the smell of a particularly pungent dinner cooking or similar.

FogCutter · 24/09/2018 00:05

Jo malone candles are gorgeous but far too expensive so I use the Aldi ones. The scent is not as strong but it's a pretty good dupe and does fill the room.

I also love Millar Harris candles which I buy in TK Maxx at a much reduced price (usually around £15-20 instead of £40.

I was given a biscotti scented woodwick candle last year for Christmas and it was the most lovely autumn/winter scent. Lasted absolutely ages too. I need to get another one. I have a stoneglow rose and oud one going at the moment that smells lovely. Some of the shearer ones are nice too.

mathanxiety · 24/09/2018 03:55

I got a Jo Malone green tomato scented candle as a gift and I love it all year round. Fantastic scent (imo) and it really fills a large sittingroom/dining room.

I have heard the Aldi dupes are great too and of course far less pricey. I check weekly to see if they have them but alas no. Last time they had some was coming up to Mother's Day (US). Will look closely coming up to Christmas.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 24/09/2018 07:04

I have tried the Aldi dupes and didn't rate the scent throw. I love St Eval candles - they smell gorgeous and scent the room even when unlit. They have a good throw and aren't ridiculous prices. I also like Skye Candles and Field Day Candles.

MadisonAvenue · 24/09/2018 07:23

Home Bargains Wickford & Co. £2.99 for a large jar and they smell amazing.

PoxAlert · 24/09/2018 07:27

When we recently decorated the walls came off black when we were Sugar soaping before painting.

I can only assume it was down to my candle habit!

So now I have an electric wax burner and I really love it.

My #1 was for It is the Lenor Unstoppable green one. Makes the whole house smell so clean and fresh and the smell lasts ages.

Once autumn is h re proper I'll switch to Yankee melts as their Christmas ranges are delicious.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 24/09/2018 08:31

I think i'm going to try the Aldi ones, they are getting great reviews here for so much less than the Jo's and Whites

whats the favourites in Aldi range?

peachypetite · 24/09/2018 08:33

The Aldi ones are fantastic for the money.

Ellapaella · 24/09/2018 08:35

I have the Aldi 'Lime, Basil and mandarin' - it's lovely. I also have the reeds in the same fragrance.
I used to have number 4, not so fussed on that one.
Personally I don't think the Aldi ones give off as much fragrance as ones I've had from Sainsbury's or Park Minster.

Mountainsided · 24/09/2018 08:36

Candelle Belle, although I’ve not tried their candles I use their wax melts. Absolutely amazing and a great price. Much better than Yankee melts and melt at a lower temperature so I can use them in a scentsy burner. Everyone that smells them when they come over goes and buys some for themselves.

Velmasglasses · 24/09/2018 08:40

Woodwick candles make a lovely crackling fire sound as they burn, perfect for autumn/winter evenings. I find you don't need to burn them for ages to get a lovely scent and they are quite long lasting.

laura1306 · 24/09/2018 08:44

Woodwick! They do crackle candles which are so comforting to listen to and have some amazing scents for the colder months!

FluffyPinkCloud · 24/09/2018 09:38

I burn Woodwick. Great burn time, great throw and they burn evenly. Their scents are so good as well! They’re about £22 for a medium but I absolutely love them.

princesstiasmum · 24/09/2018 16:37

Just bought a yankee candle in B&Ms this morning, half the price of the medium size ones in Clintons, its lovely, its apple spice potpourri,a warm wintery Christmassy scent

eggfriednice · 24/09/2018 18:20

Marmalade of London, Orchid and Seasalt is gorgeous.

carr1e1977 · 24/09/2018 18:50

@beachyumbrella where did you get the Zara candles for £17.99? Thanks
