Bootcut jeans acceptable again?

I used to love my bootcut jeans - I'm not especially tall and I'm a woman of "traditional" build and in my bootcuts, I felt tall and leggy for the first - and probably only - time.

Now, I have my straight leg Levi's (not even going near a skinny jean) but I do hanker and it seems they're coming back - Levi's, Boden, 7 For All Mankind all have bootcut jeans in this autumn's ranges.

What do you think? Too soon? Or should I snatch up a pair and celebrate?

Fair enough Elledorado 😀 I'll quite happily admit I don't have much fashion sense so I'm not at all offended 😀

7toGo I absolutely agree! Any I have tried are way too short. I’m really desperate for some decent ones, I think their awesome

bitheby but this is Style & Beauty. For people who are interested in fashion and trends.

Maryann1975 · 21/09/2018 19:40

It appears I have been out of fashion for a few years then...

Coming from someone who works in designer fashion... Bootcuts are probably one of the most universally flattering styles there is, and you should definitely wear them if you want. I do.

Elledorado · 22/09/2018 13:17

But bootcut just arent flattering. They arent! I understand straight or slim leg jeans being flattering but bootcut just flap about and look frumpy and awkward. If meghan markle looks super ordinary in them, I don't stand a chance.

MoltonSilver · 22/09/2018 13:45

Bootcuts aren't flattering with flat shoes but I think they're very flattering with heels.

cheeseoverchocolate · 22/09/2018 13:48

Never stopped wearing them for the same reason as you stated. What is the point of following fashion if you don't like it?

miketv · 22/09/2018 15:26

Another one here who likes bootcut and wide leg jeans. Skinnies give me parsnip legs. Straight jeans I can take or leave. Cropped anything makes me look ridiculous.

I like and follow fashion, but IMO style is more important than fashion. If bootcut look good on you why shouldn't you wear them? Better to wear clothes that suit you and you feel comfortable in that be a fashion victim with parsnips legs (in my experience!)

BlancheM · 22/09/2018 15:42

They look good on no one, to me they still look dated as well so it's a double no.

Fatted · 22/09/2018 20:20

I never stopped wearing mine. And I never will! I do have skinnies as well, but bootcut are definitely more flattering on me!

SilverHairedCat · 22/09/2018 20:25

Straight legs don't work when your thighs are thick / v muscular (no doubt there are many variations on this, I'm speaking for my own body shape here), and nor do skinnies.

This is when boot cut come into play. They balance out the shape of the thigh and skim muscular calves as well. Otherwise I look ridiculous!

BangingOn · 22/09/2018 21:03

I think it depends on the cut, a very slim cut with a subtle kick flair can look very stylish.

BusterGonad · 23/09/2018 06:17

Kick flares are definitely in but bootcuts like the Bonmarche Betty's will NEVER be in! 🤣

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 23/09/2018 19:00

I am tall and leggy and I've always worn them! Skinnies just don't work on me, even though my legs aren't fat, but are muscly
