Bootcut jeans acceptable again?

I used to love my bootcut jeans - I'm not especially tall and I'm a woman of "traditional" build and in my bootcuts, I felt tall and leggy for the first - and probably only - time.

Now, I have my straight leg Levi's (not even going near a skinny jean) but I do hanker and it seems they're coming back - Levi's, Boden, 7 For All Mankind all have bootcut jeans in this autumn's ranges.

What do you think? Too soon? Or should I snatch up a pair and celebrate?

They will have to prise my skinnies out of my cold dead hands. Grin

I lost five stone, I went from 13 stone 5 to 8 stone 3, I look good in skinnies, they are not going without a fight.

Yes.
Even zara have then this season.

hendricksy · 21/09/2018 14:35

They are back .. Tesco have loads if anyone is interested . I've seen them in other shops too.. I use to wear them with boots but they went to the floor and made my legs look much longer !!

They’re awful in my view. I saw a woman this very morning who looked very stylish and I was clocking what she was wearing: until I spotted her bootcuts - and just thought how they ruined her look entirely

GraceMarks · 21/09/2018 14:44

Lovemany but if you weigh 8st surely you're going to look good in anything! It's not like skinnies are the only thing you'll look halfway decent in - you'd probably ace it in bootcuts too. For those of us who can't pull the skinny look off, we've had almost a decade of not being able to buy flattering jeans, so excuse us if we get just a little bit excited that we might be getting an alternative soon!

CaptSkippy · 21/09/2018 14:50

I love stretchy, bootcut jeans. Works great if you have a larger size and will actually go over any shoe you wear.

evilharpy · 21/09/2018 14:50

I have a pair of bootcut cords. They're tan/light brown colour and very long (too long to wear out in the rain), a definite 70s vibe verging on flare more than bootcut really. I know they sound awful but they're amazing and incredibly flattering and get compliments every time I wear them.

Bootcut jeans though... no. I just don't think I could. Maybe if I was in my early 20s, but I'm late 30s and can't see how I could make them look anything but frumpy.

MoltonSilver · 21/09/2018 14:55

Skinny jeans seam like a classic style now because they have been around so long and they have gone mainstream. Once upon a time they were only for the likes of Axl Rose. Perceptions change. Our perception of bootcuts will change too, after they have been around for a while again. I am embracing them because I am sick to death of skinnies. Girlfriend and Mom jeans look dreadful on me.

whatmakesitwork · 21/09/2018 15:07

Let’s do it! I’ve tried the ones from Tesco on and they weren’t right, they were quite baggy on the thigh and wouldn’t cover a boot.

Oh topshop now have them in? I always look and they never seem to. Will have to have a look in Zara etc... Too. I don’t live close to one and prefer to try them on. Will have to make a shopping day out of it, I will find some!

JaneJeffer · 21/09/2018 15:08

I don't miss soaking up whole puddles of water and being wet to the knee. I'm fed up of jeans entirely now though anyway.

hammeringinmyhead · 21/09/2018 15:09

I really don't like them on Meghan. With the pointy toe she looks like Victoria Beckham circa 2001.

mamahanji · 21/09/2018 15:14

There's a mum at school who wears bootcut jeans and a fleece and runs a pottery workshop.

I think she's incredibly cool.

mamahanji · 21/09/2018 15:14

I realise that sounded sarcastic but it wasn't in the slightest

SnuggyBuggy · 21/09/2018 15:15

That sounds awesome.

happyhappycarcar · 21/09/2018 16:30

Puddle soakers Sad don't do it

golddustwomen · 21/09/2018 16:37

I wouldn't! But that's personal preference.
So weird I saw this thread, saw a mom at the school in bootcuts earlier, they were drenched at the bottom from the rain..

LoveManyTrustfew · 21/09/2018 16:40

Good point well made. Grin

7toGo · 21/09/2018 16:40

Bootcuts look great but ONLY if they’re long enough. They need to be longer than you think.

Bugjune · 21/09/2018 17:14

Where are they from @evilharpy, they sound amazing.

CountFosco · 21/09/2018 17:28

I have a pair I bought a few years ago but everytime I wear them I feel frumpy (I wear them with trainers). I don't feel like that about skinnies or mom jeans or boyfriend or widelegged jeans. Just bootlegs. So I think it will be a while before they are back.

evilharpy · 21/09/2018 18:32

Bugjune they were from East years ago!

bitheby · 21/09/2018 18:36

Never stopped wearing them. Hate all this bollocks fashion and trends nonsense. Don't usually stray into S&B but this was in active topics.

Wear whatever the hell you like, you'll be a long time dead!
