tbh, I reckon most adults look like twats in hats in summer

so if you go for the hat option, you won't be the only twat in the village

I'm having a similar problem 'cept mine is from a less 'skin aware' perspective. I'm worried my dark brunette will fade in the sun!

I think I'm going for wide headbands, possibly progressing to head scarf but with long face it doesn't look so great.

I have decided straw summery hats are rubbish except at weddings and caps are for with tracksuits only so I have no advice except to find a funky head band/scarf and make it work somehow.

My scalp burns too, it's horrible. I went into Accessorize a few weeks ago and tried on every single hat until I found 2 that suited me (well, 2 that were less unflattering than the others anyway).

What about a cap that isn't a baseball cap, like this?

caps back to front, you could start another trend

Love the thread title

DH says helpfully "not a trifle"

MissTea4Me · 09/06/2007 22:05

Hooray for Accessorize! I've got something a bit like this; has a little brim, hopefully not eccentrically large.

If you're not used to wearing a hat then whatever you wear will look worryingly weird to you. If you're not convinced by the way you look in a hat, then take along someone whose judgement you trust when you go shopping for a hat. Once you get used to it, and become confident about wearing a hat in public, you'll find that your opinion changes of how different styles look on you.

I generally wear a hat all year round, but this summer is the first summer in nearly 10 years that I'm not wearing a hat (only because I haven't got around to buying one) and I feel embarassingly naked and overheated without one. But it was very different when I had to start wearing hats - boy did I feel self-conscious and daft!

MadamePlatypus · 09/06/2007 22:07

Its really difficult isn't it. I always feel a bit guilty insisting that DS wears a hat, but not wearing one myself. But what are you supposed to wear? The only options seem to be baseball hat, floppy hat or Ascot hat.

I borrowed one like that from my sister at the weekend. God did I regret it when I saw my reflection in the car window, it looked awful!

Can't say it did my sister any favours either and she's about 3 dress sizes larger than me.

foxinsocks · 09/06/2007 22:09

I reckon hats make you hotter tbh
