What the hell is going on at Mint Velvet?

I'm not a huge fan of their clothes, but I do like their shoes and accessories. However I was browsing their website and they seem to have some truly awful tops.

My friend has an almost identical top to this one from Matalan for about £12.

£40 for this? Really? What are they up to?

Im scared to go in there Irish. Im 48. I love clothes. I buy clothes from jigsaw and All shops mentioned here but lk bennett carry on like they are Prada.

BubblesBuddy · 04/09/2018 18:57

You need to go to a higher quality school
Brass. Hermes was the bag du jour at my DDs school.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 04/09/2018 19:23

That’s bloody awful. Who’d spend that much for that?

MissClareRemembers · 04/09/2018 19:48

Nope, I still like stars on tops.

Rina66 · 05/09/2018 04:11

I wonder if the rise of polyester clothing is to do with the washing v dry cleaning argument? Also the whole ironing thing. I know people who don't iron anything - that's only gonna work with man made fabrics surely.
Also natural fabrics don't hold dye so well, so if a garment has any form of embellishment, as Hush and MV seem to love, there's less chance of a colour run.
All I know is it's not my washing that makes clothes shrink...........it's chocolate 😉

HRTpatch · 05/09/2018 04:34

I have never had a jumper with a star on Smile

CountFosco · 05/09/2018 05:27

Nope, I wear natural fibres but don't iron. I have a job where it doesn't matter. Cotton skinnies with elastane don't need ironing. Neither do woollen jumpers or cotton or linen t-shirts. Not many jobs require business dress these days.

Growingboys · 05/09/2018 06:00

Hush have excellent marketing and have convinced a nation of their amazing products . In reality it's flimsy tat

Yes hendricksy exactly that. I read the 'we love hush' threads on here and think wtf. Poor quality, overpriced rubbish!

Growingboys · 05/09/2018 06:15

Hermes bags a bit nouveau riche, bubbles.

neffall · 05/09/2018 06:32

That star motif is across the range at the moment but I hate that colour of pink.

Fresta · 05/09/2018 07:43

Toast is one shop I do NOT understand. Everything on the website looks baggy and oversized- I don't know how anyone can look anything but like a pregnant 1970s housewife in their clothes!

OzymandiasFanClub · 05/09/2018 08:15

Haha Toast! I love their catalogues- for a good laugh, thinking who could possibly wear this and think it looks good?!!! I like to force myself to 'choose' an outfit to wear on the school run and imagine myself in the playground wearing it. A shapeless hessian sack with clompy flatform brogues and huge plastic earrings??
Once walked into the concession in Selfridges and my sister said loudly God, this is like a jumble sale. Let's get out.

rudehealth · 05/09/2018 08:17

Just brought this skirt and bloody love it!

What the hell is going on at Mint Velvet?
SilkyDrawers · 05/09/2018 15:48

I have found my people! 🙌🏻

Feel like the only one who hasn’t drunk the Hush Kool-Aid. The t-shirts that bloggers ‘swore by’ were rubbish. Ditto everything Hush on the rails in John Lewis.

This autumn I am resolved to stick to:

-Gerard Darel (I know, I know, but once you’re in your mid 40s you’ll understand)
-Max Mara weekend
-Jigsaw, but only on sale, it’s ridic at full price
-Rebecca Taylor (mostly on eBay)
-Joie (also on eBay)
-Russell and Bromley or Geox for shoes
And that is ALL.

Had enough regret from other brands to last a lifetime.

Fresta · 05/09/2018 16:28

rude, I love that skirt- I've had my eye on it for weeks but couldn't find it in store- what is the sizing like?

321cheese · 05/09/2018 16:59

Naming and shaming Brora. What are they playing at?? www.johnlewis.com/brora-cashmere-colour-block-jumper/navy-burgundy/p3679045

rudehealth · 05/09/2018 17:26

@fresta
True to size

I’m really pleased with it!

OliveBranchManager · 05/09/2018 17:50

I have a Gerard Darel dress. I love it.

MadMaryBoddington · 05/09/2018 21:29

Just had a look at Gerard Darel. Was quite fancying some of the trousers, but then saw that they sell real fur items, so I won’t be shopping with them.

OzymandiasFanClub · 05/09/2018 22:19

Nearly 300 quid for the Brora!!!!

WilburIsSomePig · 08/09/2018 08:13

That Brora jumper is just bloody horrible!

OP posts:
SilkyDrawers · 09/09/2018 21:21

Brora is just ridiculously expensive. Yes it’s lovely quality but who has £300 to splurge on a bloody cardigan.
