Footwear for standing on the side of a Rugby pitch?

Stressedoverkids · 01/09/2018 21:13

I am hoping some of you who have sporty kids can help. I am heading into another year of standing freezing at the side of a pitch and this year I want to have shoes that can cope with wet, muddy conditions without looking daft. How do those parents that look so put together do it.

I have looked at Barbour and Timberland but as well as being ££££ they don't really strike me as the right thing.

Any ideas?

I'd wear Dr Martens, as the air-filled soles keep your feet really warm. They do loads of funky styles now.

Or Fly London boots? They really comfy and look great with skirts or leggings.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 01/09/2018 21:25

Merrel fur-lined boots are the only thing that keep my feet warm on the touch line. Easy to clean mud off too. Sorel do some nice winter boots too I think?

OlennasWimple · 01/09/2018 21:29

Wellies with sheepskin inner soles and two pairs of socks (one thick, one thin) - buy a size bigger boot than you would do normally to accomodate it all

I'm wondering this tonight as my son is starting rugby club tomorrow morning. I'm going for snow boots I think!

pamplemoussed · 01/09/2018 21:37

I wear fur lined snow boots too. Very similar to these www.amazon.co.uk/Hi-Tec-Moritz-Waterproof-Women-Hiking/dp/B00G54NGYW/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?pi=SL180_SX140_CR0&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1535834132&sr=8-7,0,140,180&keywords=ladies+snow+boots

Trainers, walking boots or neoprene lined wellies (depending on the weather/ground)

Longdistance · 01/09/2018 21:42

Wellies or walking boots are your friend. Have been watching dh play the past 12 years, but no more. If I go up the rugby club it’s wellies/walking boots as a staple. They don’t mind the mud in the club as it’s a given by the bar 🍷

Oh Thanks all! Off to google all the links Smile

Sorel boots are great. Buy a size up and wear with wool thermal long socks. I luffs mine

FreeButtonBee · 01/09/2018 22:39

www.whitestuff.com/accessories-and-shoes/womens-shoes/grey-sorel-cozy-joan-boot/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIn_HT5eGa3QIVq53tCh2hjwvqEAQYBSABEgIyQvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CPTi4vfhmt0CFU9mGwodgrANKw I have these in beige. I think the grey would be more practical but my beige ones survived a winter of football training and puddles in the park very well

TwigTheWonderKid · 01/09/2018 22:49

Wellies are simply not warm enough. I wear the ones pamplemoussed linked to. They are well insulated but also do well in the mud.

EvaHarknessRose · 01/09/2018 22:52

I buy black just below the knee boots from a cheapie shop a size too big and wear them with fluffy socks. I also wear a lot of layers. I am not stylish though. But I quite like that these are ‘proper boots’ but ones that I don’t mind getting muddy.

ChishandFips33 · 01/09/2018 23:01

Merrel or Sorrel snow boots

ChishandFips33 · 01/09/2018 23:02

Or I have caterpillar boots that are chunky soled and fur lined

ChablisLover · 02/09/2018 07:53

Wellies for autumn and spring - big socks
Sorell boots in winter
And lots of layers all over and a
Big puffa jacket to below the knee

MadMaryBoddington · 02/09/2018 08:37

Wellies with fleecey linings.

MeetOnTheLedge · 02/09/2018 08:40

Merrell snow boots for me too, snug, warm, mud brushes off easily when dry and totally waterproof (I have waded through streams in mine).

LemonRedwood · 02/09/2018 08:47

I'm a fur-lined snow boot person too. My feet get cold so easily and once they're cold they don't warm up until I dunk them in a hot bath! Snow boots stop the cold setting in.

Mine are similar to these

Stressedoverkids · 02/09/2018 08:51

I have ordered wool lined Fly London gortex boots which I am hoping will be perfect for the school run too.

Kittykatmacbill · 02/09/2018 10:10

Sorrell snow boots, merrells or hiking boots. Something waterproof and warm.

Stressedoverkids · 06/09/2018 14:28

The Fly London boots have arrived. They seem to fit the bill.

They are Waterproof and warm.

To watch a bit of pre-season rugby training yesterday I wore trainers; it was 24 degrees!

When it gets wet/cold I wear my mid-calf walking boots or sheepskin lined tall boots. Had both pairs years and they’re very comfortable and warm. There’s too much walking and standing where my kids play rugby to be comfortable in even lined wellies - I get blisters.

Somerville · 06/09/2018 14:37

Do they fit well, Stressed? Break them in before the first match, if necessary, so you aren’t in agony!

ChishandFips33 · 06/09/2018 19:11

glad you got sorted...can you share a link please?

goose1964 · 06/09/2018 20:51

I wore trainers with thermal socks, apart from the year I had some Skechers ankle boots, a bit like Timberland
