Has anyone got any experience of these Ash high top trainers?

I've had half an eye on them for a couple of years now and have found myself drawn back to them again. I love the fact that they look quite edgy and would go with loads and that they're a nice crossover between leather boots and trainers - but are they worth the money, will be be comfy and are they really as 'cool' as I think they are? I love in canvas converse so these have potential to be a great winter alternative but for some reason I just can't decide - probably the price tag! Opinions gratefully received before to help me decide whether or not to finally splash out!

I'm wearing a pair at the moment. I'm going to buy another pair of winter boots though as I wear black trousers a lot and they don't look good with them. I like the look with leggings/jeans/jeggings.

They don't have quite the bounce that I thought they would, I have quite a hard heel strike when I walk and they don't absorb the impact very well.

I am in my 50s and very much not on trend or cutting edge though.

MM18 · 10/09/2018 15:56

I’m wearing mine right now too - black straight leg jeans rolled up, a black silk top from All Saints, and a black jacket from Massimo Dutti. Feel comfortable and look smart enough for confidence but not overdressed for the school run.

Bluelady · 10/09/2018 16:58

My third pair has just arrived - £105 from Brand Boutique - the leather is super soft and they're incredibly comfortable. I got two winters out of each of the previous pairs wearing them at least 3/4 times a week.

SingingGoldfinch · 10/09/2018 17:10

Do you mean Brand Boudoir BlueLady? They have some great bargains! Sadly they didn't have the graphite ones I wanted in my size though. I should be getting my hands on my first pair tomorrow - at least I'm pretty sure that's what dh has got me! I'm so desperate for them now after all my dithering so I'll be bitterly disappointed if he's got me something else!

Had this chat with a friend this morning about these so see it’s popped up again - they are great if you drive on the school run in your 4x4 but don’t wear them if you walk 10km a day like I often do - they get holes in the sole in no time.

Bluelady · 10/09/2018 17:14

Yes, that's what I meant. I'm an idiot! I was lucky as a size 36 fits me and it was just about the only size they had left. I hope you like them as much as I do.

SingingGoldfinch · 10/09/2018 19:05

I don't drive a 4x4 and I walk miles to school/work - but these trainers will be my weekend shoes so will get a lot less wear than my every day shoes/boots. I'll mostly be wearing them with skinny jeans, jumpers and leather jacket Smile

That's how I wear mine although I am considering branching out this winter and wearing them with a dress.

carr1e1977 · 10/09/2018 20:00

I love them! Am away to look for a pair for myself

duchesswigtower · 11/09/2018 13:15

You probably majorly bumped up the ash virgin sales this season with this thread op! Hope you do get them now!
Mm18 sounds like a lovely outfit.
Blue lady what style of dress are you thinking?

Bluelady · 11/09/2018 14:49

I wear a lot of midi dresses over rolled trousers in the summer so I was thinking of a similar kind of look with the trainers for the winter. Might work, might not but worth a try.

They’ll be fine for weekend shoes.
I’ve had about 15 pairs over the years but walk huge amounts. I stopped buying them when they messed around with the sizes and they became over generous but perhaps that’s improved now.

SingingGoldfinch · 11/09/2018 17:00

So - just opened my birthday presents and I'm now the proud owner of a pair of graphite Ash Virgin high tops. They are totally lush and look just as good as I hoped they would! Very happy birthday girl Smile!

I'm definitely going to wear them with dresses/skirts as well as my skinny jeans. I'm thinking they'll look good with my Hush Tara dress and ruched skirt and also denim mini skirt. Think they'll be getting a lot of wear!!!

Yay, glad you're so happy. And many happy returns. 🍰🍸

SpiritedLondon · 11/09/2018 19:27

Well the fact they’re not super fashionable may work in your favour since you’ll inevitably be ahead of the curve when they come back in fashion in 2 years. Sadly they made my legs look stumpy as do high top converse. I’m looking for trainers but not sure what to get... I liked the Veja ones I saw in Arket but white doesn’t seem very practical for winter. The hunt continues - I’m happy you’re happy OP.
