Has anyone got any experience of these Ash high top trainers?

I've had half an eye on them for a couple of years now and have found myself drawn back to them again. I love the fact that they look quite edgy and would go with loads and that they're a nice crossover between leather boots and trainers - but are they worth the money, will be be comfy and are they really as 'cool' as I think they are? I love in canvas converse so these have potential to be a great winter alternative but for some reason I just can't decide - probably the price tag! Opinions gratefully received before to help me decide whether or not to finally splash out!

They're very of their time, a decade ago.

SingingGoldfinch · 29/08/2018 07:18

So, what's everyone wearing these days instead bugjune?

OP posts:
SingingGoldfinch · 29/08/2018 07:21

I'm loving the Crime London ones recommended up thread (the plain rather than blingy ones) but the price tag is even more eye-watering than Ash!

Bugjune? Please enlighten us?

Ellapaella · 29/08/2018 08:12

When people are so dismissive of something in such a superior way It would be nice to hear what they suggest instead bugjune - being helpful to the OP is what it's all about, otherwise why bother commenting?
At least the other posters have suggested alternatives for the OP.

SingingGoldfinch · 29/08/2018 10:18

Agree Ella!!

I've found these which I quite like as an alternative to Ash and they're a bargain!!

Those are really nice @SingingGoldfinch and a great price. Go for it!

Bugjune · 29/08/2018 13:25

Well since you asked so nicely...I wouldn't recommend any high tops at all, they're not my thing. I'd happily recommend ordinary trainers though but since that's not what you're looking for it would be rather redundant.

Stand by what I said about Ash being dated though.

rightknockered · 29/08/2018 13:30

Op, I like Nike Air Force 1 high tops, although the look isn't as sleek as the Ash boots.

rightknockered · 29/08/2018 13:31

I would get a pair of AF1's but my dd wears them and is just at the age where she is beginning to get embarrassed at her mother wearing similar clothes.

Ellapaella · 29/08/2018 13:56

@Bugjune your reply to OP wasn't exactly 'nice' or helpful was it? But feel free to have a dig at me for not asking you nicely Hmm
And I think I'll live without your trainer recommendations - thanks anyway.

Bugjune · 29/08/2018 18:53

It's a thread about footwear FFS, stop being so bloody precious.

highlandcoo · 29/08/2018 19:22

I'm on my third pair of these trainers and absolutely love them. I do like Converse but they kill my feet as they cut just across my big toe joint unfortunately. Ash are incredibly comfortable.

But I have to agree they are not very robust. I get about a year and a half out of mine .. I wear them a lot though.

They're stylish as far as I'm concerned Smile

dundee12 · 30/08/2018 06:49

I think they are fine & whilst not super trendy, no one is going to be horrified by them either.

I don’t think Converse, Vans or Nike AF1s are particular trendy or edgy though, far too common, all though I wear all 3. The cool kids round me have embraced the dad trainer trend, which I won’t be doing.

SingingGoldfinch · 30/08/2018 07:56

Agree Dundee - converse etc aren't trendy but it's about how you wear them - and which styles you pick. They can look really sensible and unimaginative or quite cool and stylish - it just depends on your general style and I think the same is probably true of these Ash trainers.

mariniere · 30/08/2018 07:57

I wore them for years but as others say I did learn eventually that they arent good quality for the price. They wear down quickly and then can’t be repaired. They still look good though (even if the mums at school wear them Grin)

dundee12 · 30/08/2018 08:24

SingingGoldfinch defo!!

SingingGoldfinch · 05/09/2018 21:46

So, just in case anyone's interested I have some Ash Virgin high tops on order (birthday pressie from dh). I decided I really like them and not too bothered if they've been around a while and aren't very edgy.

Funnily enough since ordering I've discovered that a friend's 21 year old daughter has a pair - she's very hip, and a model, so maybe they're not so past

OP posts:
SingingGoldfinch · 05/09/2018 21:47

...it after all!

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 06/09/2018 16:47

Yey, we're hip 40 and still got it Grin

SingingGoldfinch · 06/09/2018 18:18

My thoughts exactly Brillo! She's even posted a picture of herself wearing them on Instagram - totally rocking them and looking gorgeous! They're obviously not just middle aged mum uniform anymore! Just hope I look half as good in mine!!

MissClareRemembers · 06/09/2018 19:15

Those are bloomin’ lovely OP! I really, really like those.

Jackietheduck · 06/09/2018 19:40

I had them and wore them a lot. Three days a week probably. They were comfortable and went well with jeans. The huge bonus of course is that they can be worn in wet weather. They don’t go with everything though. Eg they look shoddy with wool coats, awful with skirts (obv). They are great with skinny jeans and casual clothes.

Mine wore very badly though. The heel wore down and they obviously can’t be repaired. They also didn’t hold their shape that well after a while. My feet seemed to look like they had spread out when I wore them probably because they aren’t structured and because they are hi tops, that was more obvious than it is with converse low tops.

Would I buy them again? Yes if I had a lot more money and didn’t care if they were worth their price. Will I buy them again? No because I would prefer to spend my money on shoes that will last longer than a year.

Jackietheduck · 06/09/2018 19:52

ETA I think they have passed their sell by date fashion style wise. Mine gave up about two years ago and at times I remember feeling a bit frumpy in them. They are t Skechers territory but they are definitely not ‘edgy’.

duchesswigtower · 10/09/2018 11:36

Love them OP!
Just wondering what they are best worn with? They are limited in my head to skinny jeans/ leggings/ leather skinny’s but are they more versatile? Would the look ok with certain styles of dress?
Seriously lusting after a pair now!
