I'm looking for an everyday black shoulder bag which is not too big or small, stylish, practical and a little bit wow and a bit of prestige to it! I've seen this one- is it nice? I can't decide if it's designer enough or if I'd be better of with a more 'designer' brand like Michael Kors, Kat Spade, Marc jacobs or DKNY. Budget is up to £300- is there anything nicer out there for the money?

&Otherstories has a great cross body black leather bag. I stroked it today - it’s so soft and feels expensive. They have a good choice of new season bags including lively bucket bags. I think Russell and Bromley do good bags plus Massimo Dutti. The cheaper end logo bag doesn’t appeal to me but obviously Michael Korda rules that particular world!

BubblesBuddy · 17/08/2018 17:28

Kors - obviously.

NigellasGuest · 17/08/2018 17:31

Just wondering, Can anyone post links to bags that are "big name or no name" to quote @spanishwife ?
I initially liked the by in the OP but reading comments I've been put off. Would hate to spend £200 on something that looks out of date.... but on the other hand I'm in the market for investing £1k+ in a proper designer bag sometime over the coming months...
I currently own a Coach, a vivienne Westwood, a kate spade, a Marc Jacobs. Would love a "big name" but there are so many and I like classic and structured, none of your slouchy hobo type stuff!
Sorry if this is a hijack, should i start my own thread?

ViserionTheDragon · 17/08/2018 17:46

Sorry, another no here. It doesn't look like its worth £200!

The Aspinall bag is better.

Fresta · 17/08/2018 17:52

Nigella- you are welcome to hijack- I'd love recommendations for bags that scream class and sophistication- although don't have 1k to spend i'd still like to be nice- could maybe stretch to 500ish if something wow!

What about the Aspinall slouchy hobo?

I like my bags to be soft- not too slouchy, but without hard edges.

Clarich007 · 17/08/2018 17:53

Sorry looks cheap and nasty so tacky

Nanasueathome · 17/08/2018 17:54

Have a look at Strathberry

NutElla5x · 17/08/2018 18:02

You can't decide if it's designer enough? Lol.That sentence just proved to me what I have always thought about fashion victims so thanks.

spanishwife · 17/08/2018 18:11

I went to Bicester last year and got a navy blue Prada city bag for £650! Such a bargain and I use for work every day. Definitely worth a trip to Bicester if you are close enough by.

If you want to get a general idea of what's out there in terms of designer, I would suggest starting on Netaporter. They only stock a selection and usually very trendy pieces but you can get a great idea of what designer you like, what style etc and go from there. Louis Vuitton not on there but you probably know already if that's what you want.

Stella McCartney bags are great value for money IMO, but not leather. Prada is a real class and they use saffiano leather and studs on the base, so v long lasting.

I posted a few £100-200 simple bag brands in my previous post

Fresta · 17/08/2018 18:41

????

MynameisJune · 17/08/2018 19:07

They’re not classic bags, so any that you’ve posted would, to me, age badly and in a year or two you’d not want to use it because it looks out of ‘fashion’ you can’t go wrong with a well crafted plain leather bag in any colour.

Fresta · 17/08/2018 19:14

I’m not sure what a classic bag really looks like- what would you suggest june? I thought my choices were pretty traditional- especially the Aspinal.

OP posts:
NigellasGuest · 17/08/2018 19:33

Aspinal link not working for me Fresta ... i do like what ive seen of Aspjnal though, i was browsing their Leeds branch not long ago

NigellasGuest · 17/08/2018 19:37

I think this is classic

www.chanel.com/en_GB/fashion/products/handbags/boy-chanel.html

But probably too much bling for some. I do like a bit of bling though - if the rest of the outfit is not bling I think it's great!

MynameisJune · 17/08/2018 19:48

Generally one colour, no ‘bling’ or obvious branding and a classic shape. Obviously not everyone bothers with this but they’re the type of bags I aim for. Something that helps tie an outfit together rather than stand out.

The only wow factor I like about my bags is when others who are into handbags recognise they style/designer. Other than that people probably don’t even notice.

NigellasGuest · 17/08/2018 20:03

@MynameisJune can you post links or maybe just say bag / designer names you think tick those boxes? Just interested!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 17/08/2018 20:56

Have you looked at Furla? I love their bag, beautifully made and classic.

spanishwife · 17/08/2018 22:00

I second furla!

Fresta · 18/08/2018 00:50

Well to me the Chanel bags are more Blingy and not that dissimilar to the Kurt Geiger one. The only difference is the Chanel prestige which goes with the huge price tag.

OP posts:
WilburIsSomePig · 18/08/2018 07:46

I don't like any of the bags posted, none of them look worth it.

I would also recommend looking at furla.

Fresta · 18/08/2018 09:06

I've had a look at Furla- they look nice but they all look a bit rigid.

OP posts:
TrueBlue22 · 18/08/2018 09:17

I would look at Coach. Lots of designs and styles, good quality leather and within budget. If you're anywhere near Bicester village, they have a huge shop there which has good reductions.

Fresta · 18/08/2018 09:19

I've had a Coach before which I loved- but the quality wasn't that great- the trim all peeled off the handles and it looked scruffy within a year of buying it.

OP posts:
NigellasGuest · 18/08/2018 10:03

I have a Coach bag and the quality is second to none- could you have been sold a faulty one? I us
e it very day and have had it around 9 months. The 9 months has included lots of travel, taking it on planes, trains, tubes, sightseeing, going to work... and can honsestly say it is pristine. And I'm not that careful a person!
I like Furla, thanks for the suggestion. (I like structured even though my Coach bag isn't very).
I agree the Chanel looks like the original KG suggestion which is why I posted it, but also agree it's overpriced and you're paying for the name!

Fresta · 18/08/2018 12:33

I actually think I’m not looking for the MN idea of classy and timeless- the ones recommended seem a bit non- descript and lacking any real design at all. I want classy but wow, something that has a real design element and stands out from the crowd a bit.
