Casual outdoor wedding in August so need shoes/ sandals to dress it up a bit but that will be ok for standing around all day outdoors and not too frumpy/ formal. I need inspiration 😃😲. I’m 52 so a generation older than the bride. Don’t want to look too middle aged but equally don’t want to look ridiculous 😃

Had to jump in even though it's late just to say I really like the dress, I think it's really classy. Check out other stories sale they have quite a few orange shoes but also others that might be nice www.stories.com/en_gbp/sale/shoes/product.suede-strappy-heeled-sandals-tomato-orange.0583661002.html these are insanely comfortable and easily worn all day, get loads of compliments when worn which is always a bonus 😬

gemandjule · 27/07/2018 06:57

Just woke up. Thanks so much for all the work and suggestions. Really like the last few ones too so at least now I have ideas where to start. Thanks also for the compliments on the dress. I know opinions, good or bad, from anonymous strangers shouldn’t matter but it seems they do! I’m middle aged, short and a bit overweight. I also have all my life hated formal clothes, and shopping! Not a good combination 😃😃. I’m quite happy that I will never be stunning. Relaxed in my clothes, feeling confident and therefore able to kick back and actually enjoy myself will do me! @wentmadeinthecountry, thanks for the apology and for acknowledging you were rude. No long term damage done!
Thanks again to everyone for the advice and suggestions.

These would be nice in orange and would also look good after with cropped linen trousers so could be worn again. www.moshulu.co.uk/wasabi-bright-strappy-leather-sandals.html

OP, you've described yourself and the occasion very well, and I think that dress will be perfect. Lot's of people ditch their usual style and comfort requirements when it comes to weddings, e.g. buy some floral fitted number and vertiginous heels they can't walk in, because they think that's the wedding "look", then feel awkward and uncomfortable all day (me in my younger days, no more).

As a PP said, that dress is classy, I think you'll look striking, in a good way. The kind of women I often see at such events, where I think "that women knows her style, wish I'd thought of that look"

PiggyPoos · 27/07/2018 10:03

I'm really crap at shoe shopping but I like your dress.

gemandjule · 27/07/2018 11:13

@MrsMariaPolouvika, I really don't want to dwell on the negative aspect of this thread and overall I have found it really useful but you have articulated really well something I feel really strongly about and probably should be it's own thread on Style and Beauty.
Fashion is not about a uniform. Different styles suit different people, and I don't just mean the rules around the direction of stripes, the shape of necklines depending on the size of your bust etc. Or, it's a wedding, you have to look exactly how everyone else there will look. I mean your age, shape etc but principally your personality. I actually quite like fashion. I like looking at people and admiring what they are wearing. Often I really like something but know I would never in a million years wear it and not necessarily because I'm too old, or too short, or my boobs are too big, (even though all those things may well be true!), but because I won't feel confident and relaxed in it because, for whatever reason, it's not "me".
I have 2 daughters, aged 17 and 19, who are just coming out of the teenage stage where everyone has to wear a certain style of clothes, bought from a particular shop, for every given occasion. I have spent all their lives trying to instill into them that the way to happiness is to be yourself and to be confident in yourself. I need to keep reminding myself of that too!
Anyway, apologies for the sociological rant. If anyone is remotely interested at this point I actually ordered the Spanish shoes last night.
www.bimbaylola.com/es_es/sandalia-tacon-ante-tomate-181bz1225-t1224
I'm nervous because they are very different from what I would normally wear but I really like them and think they will de-frump the dress!
I was tempted to get the Carvela ones as a backup but i think if I have a safety net I'll probably use it! Also, let's face it, who needs 2 pairs of orange shoes Wink. Thanks again

I love that dress!

Quite honestly unless you like heels I’d just go for black flats. DS’s language teacher wears similar clothing and she always wears ballet flats or loafers. Looks great.

FlorenceLyons · 27/07/2018 11:22

I love your dress! It's unusual and elegant, and sounds perfect for the occasion. I have the same style but in a different colour/pattern, and it's lovely to wear. I prefer the funky pattern of yours, though.

FearOfFrogs · 27/07/2018 11:28

The Bimbaylola were my favourites of all the ones shown. Have a lovely time. the more I looked at the dress the more I like it.

papersmile · 27/07/2018 13:39

Spot on germandjule. I hope you feel lovely in your dress. I know it's a bit late but I have tried these on:
www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0118-CL03-002H085&productvarid=0118-CL03-002H085-ORANGE-RED-37&refpage=shoes-boots/sandals
and they were really comfortable. I am on an endless search for shoes that look nice and don't cripple me - even flip flips give me blisters. They might be a handy back up.
Enjoy your holiday and the wedding.

Safeandwarm · 27/07/2018 13:46

Love the dress and the shoes op, I would wear it!

XingMing · 27/07/2018 15:35

So glad you chose those orange Spanish shoes. I think they will be comfortable for a long day, and really funky, and you will probably wear them to death! They would be my choice in fact, if I had any money and there were some left in my size, I would probably buy them too. They would have been great for the wedding I just went to!

peanutpeanutbutterbutterandjam · 27/07/2018 16:09

Enjoy, OP!

Watchingtheworldgoby · 27/07/2018 18:54

OP I really like the dress, I think it is edgy!

The thing with S&B is you don’t know what the person giving advice/comments wears themselves so ia bidycon, stiletto and extensions loving person probably would not like that dress but somebody else will love it. You have to filter the comments x

gemandjule · 27/07/2018 21:56

Once again thanks for all the good wishes. Honestly I swear I wasn’t upset. I was annoyed last night but laughing about it, and feeling a bit foolish that I reacted.
The rest is just me ranting. Ask my kids, doesn’t take much to set me off!!! 😃😃

Love the dress & was going to say go for the Bimba shoes. You will look amazing!

sourpatchkid · 27/07/2018 22:09

Yes! Perfect shoes, well done OP 👍🏼

Watchingtheworldgoby · 27/07/2018 22:09

Agree the Bimba shoes would be good IF you can walk ok in them? Maybe bring a pair of espadrilles for comfort too esp if it will be hot where you are going.

Baubletrouble43 · 27/07/2018 22:13

I'd wear something white and block heeled with that dress

Baubletrouble43 · 27/07/2018 22:15

I love the ones you have ordered! Nice shape. And the dress is lovely and unusual.

gemandjule · 11/08/2018 20:19

The wedding happened 😃. Was delighted with the shoes and the dress.
Thanks for all the help 😃

You look fab!

Hope you had a great time.

MrsMariaPolouvicka · 12/08/2018 09:31

ooh, glad you updated OP. You look really great, exactly the sort of striking women who knows her style I described in my previous post.

Now I've seen it on you, it looks like a great dress to wear with flat sandals too for more casual days too. The benefit of a dress like that is that it transcends seasonal trends, shirt dresses are timeless, yet the colour combo and block print gives it an unusual edge. I think you'll get lots of wear out of it for years to come :)
