One advantage of this heatwave... you don’t need to buy any clothes

Since Christmas I have bought one pair of white jeans and a linen jumpsuit which I have lived in. There is no point in buying anything else because I am literally going round in the same few clothes which keep me cool and stripping off as soon as I get home.

The heatwave will probably be with us till at least September so I might be able to go almost a year without buying any clothes. Result!

Speak for yourself. I've had to buy basically a new summer wardrobe because the one dress I've been wearing on our occasional hot days just wasn't cutting it.

peachypetite · 24/07/2018 08:34

Aren't you too hot in jeans?

Coolhotsummer · 24/07/2018 08:34

Really! I even dug out some shorts that I haven’t worn for years in this country and thought needs must.

Yes the jeans have only come out when I need to look presentable eg legs not showing.

I’m with frikadela, I’ve had to buy quite a few things to supplement my two summer dresses that have seen me through the past 5 years Grin

3stonedown · 24/07/2018 08:38

I've spent a bloody fortune. I've lost a lot of weight since last summer so had to get a whole new summer wardrobe basically

mangocoveredlamb · 24/07/2018 08:40

Speak for yourself. I’ve had to buy an entire new Work wardrobe so I don’t expire in the heat. I work in education, term time only, so have usually got away with a couple of smart summer things. Not this year!

DianaT1969 · 24/07/2018 08:42

@Coolhotsummer
Do you work? It's been hard finding cool but office smart clothes. My office doesn't have air conditioning, so the clothes need to be natural fabrics really. Too hot to wear jeans at weekends. I bought a few linen clothes at the beginning of summer.

BarefootHippieChick · 24/07/2018 08:44

I can't bear the thought of wearing jeans in this weather, I've been living in shorts (including skimpy holiday-only ones - fuck it) and sundresses. Usually I feel I never get full wear out of my summer wardrobe but so far this year it's been worn to death, so if it continues any longer I'm going to have to go out and buy some new stuff!

Asmallrole · 24/07/2018 08:54

My entire wardrobe at the moment consists of a cool sleeveless linen dress I bought a month ago, and a floaty two layer cotton dress that a friend gave me because she lost weight. I wear some shorts that I cut down from some old maternity jeans of my DDs with strappy tops in the house. I bought sandals in a sale and have had my flipflops for years. That's it.

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/07/2018 10:11

I live in Scotland and we rarely get a summer, so I have had to buy quite a few things. Usually I buy virtually no clothes for summer, and get super-excited about the autumn stuff coming in.

DollyDayScream · 24/07/2018 10:16

I've bought more this summer than ever before.

I absolutely adore my new wardrobe of comfortable dresses. So cool and easy to wear.

I've definitely spent more on hair removal too!

hammeringinmyhead · 24/07/2018 10:34

I'm at work 5 days a week and everything needs washing after one wear - bras, trousers, tops, dresses, everything. Even if I wasn't pregnant I would have had to buy about three pairs of floaty trousers/harems, a couple of dresses, and a few more vests to look vaguely presentable. I would imagine clothing retail has seen a massive boon.

MoltonSilver · 24/07/2018 11:02

Why are you literally going round on the same few clothes? Surely if you expect it to last until September then you would need more Summer clothes.

MoltonSilver · 24/07/2018 11:03

In, not on.

Gahbahboo · 24/07/2018 11:08

I've also bought more this summer than any other. Vest tops, shorts, dresses, skirts and playsuits. Sandals too, all absolutely required.

1moreglassplease · 24/07/2018 11:11

I'm another who's had to invest a lot more as my 3-4 skirts and tops that I've had for years just aren't enough. Finding commute/work appropriate, natural fibre clothes has been interesting to say the least but have found some lovely things and am really enjoying wearing them.

Don't get me started on the ironing though Smile!

54321blastoff · 24/07/2018 11:47

1moreglassplease can you share the lovely natural fibre items you've found please? Having a nightmare finding anything....

LuxuryWoman2017 · 24/07/2018 12:39

I've bought loads, in this heat I couldn't wear jeans, I'd melt, I couldn't wear something twice either, in fact I get so sticky I often change my top in the afternoon.

I'm about to buy some vests and shorts to wear in bed and a couple more tops. Upside is all the washing dries quickly, downside is linen needs ironing.

hugoagogo · 24/07/2018 12:50

I have bought more nightwear, vests, cotton and linen trousers, cotton shirts and bras purely because of this weather. I think clothes shops must be raking it inShock

JMAngel1 · 24/07/2018 13:13

Yes complete opposite here too - never bought so much summer shite and still feel like I have nothing to wear - can't wait for Autumn!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/07/2018 13:14

Christ, I've bought tons of stuff. Linen trousers, sleeveless tops... I've also lost weight since the spring so last years stuff is starting to fall off me.

Coolhotsummer · 24/07/2018 13:25

Just me then!

I have three dresses I have had for years - two Boden ones which still look lovely and a stripy oasis one. I alternate them with the jumpsuit and shorts. It’s too hot for anything else!

This summer has exposed how much I rely on wearing jeans! I have had to buy a few looser items. However as soon as the temp drops below 24 I am back in jeans again!
