One advantage of this heatwave... you don’t need to buy any clothes

Since Christmas I have bought one pair of white jeans and a linen jumpsuit which I have lived in. There is no point in buying anything else because I am literally going round in the same few clothes which keep me cool and stripping off as soon as I get home.

The heatwave will probably be with us till at least September so I might be able to go almost a year without buying any clothes. Result!

Yep I live in jeans usually.

I've bought less so far but that's because I'm up north and it has taken longer to seriously warm up. But I've just bought a new summer shirtdress after the one I bought last year (that was only worn a couple of times) has been worn and worn and worn. I've been dragging out old stuff I've not worn for years because I desperately need more warm weather stuff.

I've lost weight so can now get into my previously too small summer clothes, yesterday I wore a knee length linen skirt and a vest top, both last worn over 10 years so.

54321 I've bought some cotton dresses from Next, Monsoon (their Doris dress is lovely) and Debenhams (JC & Principles ranges) as well as some linen/cotton/silk tops from Pure Collection and Woolovers - some good bargains on the sale pages of both. I'm the weirdo constantly squinting at tiny labels on the side of garments in sthops, trying to read without my glasses what the stuff is made of!

I’m 10 weeks postpartum and have had to buy some bits. Am not back to my pre baby weight and am breastfeeding so don’t see the point in investing in much, but have found it hard to find BF friendly yet cool things that I feel good in. It’s too hot for 1 up/ 1 down and I miss dresses!

SoyDora · 24/07/2018 15:24

I’ve bought loads of cool summer clothes, precisely so I don’t have to wear the same few things I previously wore in hot weather!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2018 15:28

I'm finding it virtually impossible to find a nice cotton sundress or three. Living in a pair of Levis shorts, and a couple of charity shop cotton midi skirts, plus black vest tops.

Blushah · 24/07/2018 15:31

Loads of shops have already dispensed with their summer clothes and it's all autumn knits.

Then they wonder why they don't make their anticipated profits...

ILikeyourHairyHands · 24/07/2018 15:41

Another one who's bought tonnes of Summer clothes, serious Summer wardrobe overhaul, I've spent an absolute fortune, but I think I'm set for a few years now (cue five wash-out Summers).

1moreglassplease · 24/07/2018 15:54

ILike - you're probably right about the next five years! Considering that some of my summer items are 10-15 years old and pretty faded, I'm definitely seeing my new items as investment pieces.

Odiepants · 24/07/2018 15:59

Luckily I went on a holiday to a tropical destination last summer and had bought lots last year for that so I haven't had to buy that much extra.

I would have spent a small fortune otherwise as I lost a lot of weight 3 years ago and had no summer things that fitted from before that.

WhoKnowsWereTheTimeG0es · 24/07/2018 16:03

I've had to buy lots too in order to avoid having to constantly wash and rewear the same few things I have managed with in previous years. I hadn't really bought summer clothes for the several years and the collection I did have has gradually dwindled. Can't wait for cooler weather and getting back into normal clothes.

Strongbeatsskinny · 24/07/2018 16:57

I’ve purchased quite a few new summer outfits this year. We do holiday abroad several times a year so I just added to what I already have.

This summer has certainly been gorgeous so far this year hasn’t it.

XingMing · 24/07/2018 16:59

I haven't bought much, apart from two pairs of sandals, but my holiday clothes have had more use than the normal week away in the sun.

MrsPear · 24/07/2018 17:26

I’m going on holiday at the end of the week. I’m usually packed by now but because we are living in our summer clothes I’ve not even started bar list writing

Floisme · 25/07/2018 07:17

I don't get on with summer clothes so I normally stick to what's pretty much a capsule wardrobe on the basis that it's only for a few weeks. This year I'm managing but Jeez I'm bored. Bored out of my tiny mind. I'm not caving though cos I'm saving the money for autumn.

Fatted · 25/07/2018 07:24

I've had to buy more things. Some hareem type pants for the days I want my legs covered but too hot for jeans and then more decent vests that aren't from Primark or H&M and don't fall apart after one wash. Oh and some new flip flops.

I bought loads of shorts a few years ago and probably worn them a handful of times since. But now I've been living in them.

Snog · 25/07/2018 08:19

I bought new sandals and some harem pants plus a couple of light cotton dresses, two linen tshirts and a hat. Mainly I'm just wearing my holiday wardrobe.
