Bollywood Ball - what on earth do I wear?!

Hulababy · 29/05/2007 17:16

DH and I are invited to a Bollywood Ball in June.

The dress code says Black Tie - Flamboyant!

What on earth do we wear?

I am assuming Dh can get away with black tie suit and team with a jazzy bow tie.

But what do I wear?!

a sari- tho they're hard to wrap correctly
a lengha (long skirt teamed with a matching top length of which you can decid)

Anythign very glitzy and don't forget the jewelery.

PinkMartini · 29/05/2007 17:18

Something like this?

purplemonkeydishwasherwhatwhat · 29/05/2007 17:19

oooooh that sounds sooooo FUN! I'm very very !!!!

fuzzywuzzy · 29/05/2007 17:20

oh try here for inspiration.

Hulababy · 29/05/2007 17:21

Do you reckon a sari is the way forward then? Eeek.

It is quite exciting thought, although I can't imagine I am going to be able to dress myself in one!

and no dont let your husband get away with a mere suit....he's got to join the fun....

Hulababy · 29/05/2007 17:23

Where would I buy one? One of the more specialist shops I guess? I am assuming you have to try on and be shown how to fit them? I am only 5 foot so not a standard size for buying otherwise.

Hulababy · 29/05/2007 17:24

Not sure I could get DH to dress up to fancy!

Sugarfree · 29/05/2007 17:25

Oh,good timing.
We're having a "Bollywood Bling"(!)party for dh's 39 and 3/4 birthday in September.
Fancy dress compulsory.

fuzzywuzzy · 29/05/2007 17:26

Saris all come in a standard length.....have never met a 6foot tall indian lady before so you should be fine.
look at my link go on look. If you're anywhere near Forest gate have a look in shops in green street, the girls can show you how to wrap a sari. Or southall there are loads of indian clothing stores there too.... and look at my link seriously theres a bit which shows you how to wrap a sari.

Have noticed on that website you have the option to have a ready made blouse - I am assuming that would make life a bit easier?

OP posts:
fuzzywuzzy · 29/05/2007 17:36

oh sheffield (sorry I only know shops in London)...and yes you want a ready made blouse, otherwise you'll get a little bit of material to make your own blouse (which is OK if you can sew).

Hulababy · 29/05/2007 17:39

Yes, definitely ready made then!!!

OP posts:
fuzzywuzzy · 29/05/2007 17:42

there have got to be sari experienced mners in sheffield somewhere near you to help out.....

Spagblog · 29/05/2007 17:44

Am I mad or is this ring really cute!
a bit bling?

Hulababy · 29/05/2007 17:46

That website has some fab outfits and accessories on - and so cheap! Much cheaper than a normal ball gown that is for sure!

OP posts:
fuzzywuzzy · 29/05/2007 17:47

If your scared of the saris go for a bling trouser suit.... (I prefer trouser suits myself).

Spagblog my sister would agree with you re cute I think your mad.

fuzzywuzzy · 29/05/2007 17:47

I shop with them loads....and I've noticed a lot of people ebay their clothes for a mad inflated price!!!!

Otter · 29/05/2007 17:49

omg WHAT FUN!!

you lucky think - all the men will look YUM

Otter · 29/05/2007 17:50

Hulababy · 29/05/2007 17:51

Quite excited about it all now, apart from the actual shopping bit - if done in RL rather than online. Eeek. Will need to find a shopping partner for that I think.

NutterlyUts · 29/05/2007 17:52

I am so jealous! It sounds fab

Hulababy · 29/05/2007 19:33

DD is under strict orders tomorrow to find out what his colleagues partners are wearing!

Bouquetsofdynomite · 29/05/2007 19:43

Nehru shirt for DH - very cool and no bow tie needed.
