do you have money to spend

if you do, I'd go to Hobbs and throw yourself on their mercy .. they worked wonders for me ..

I'd say white trousers are a bit passe .. particularly if not really hot out

PinkMartini · 27/05/2007 18:54

My newest thing is dresses - no need to worry about whether your top matches your trews and you can dress down with a cardi.

choosyfloosy · 27/05/2007 18:54

deffo dress, nothing makes you feel better faster

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2007 18:54

yes, a dress, definitely

nice shoes

jewellery

Ceolas · 27/05/2007 18:55

Dress would be lovely.

Twiglett · 27/05/2007 18:55

this top is rather nice I think if you wear your white trousers and would look great with nork/waist

toomuchtodo · 27/05/2007 19:09

monsoon have lots of nice dresses and matching cardi's

Heathcliffscathy · 27/05/2007 19:14

Be careful.

nothing worse than overdressing....underdressing makes you seem devil may care and understated.

Dress is a good plan. or jeans and great top if the jeans are skinny and dark indigo with no stupid built in crease marks.

if you are going clubbing, you definitely don't want to be overdressed. trousers and chic/glam top (halterneck?, bit of back showing perhaps?

I certainly would phone the person going that you know the best and ask what wearing as i'm sure that everyone has a pre-night out flap about what to wear and it'll give you a steer.

don't go for anything that feels out of character for you...you need to feel comfortable about what you are wearing above all else.

good luck! hope you have a fab night.

Twiglett · 27/05/2007 19:16

Heathcliffscathy · 27/05/2007 19:21

oooo twig.....where is it?

Heathcliffscathy · 27/05/2007 19:25

here stupid website, go to right hand side middle of screen and click forward about 10 pages....gorgeous black and white dress with butterfly, would be perfect!

Heathcliffscathy · 27/05/2007 19:25

actually i think it might be page 11 on the Zara website

Heathcliffscathy · 27/05/2007 19:28

MANGO have some great dresses.

you want summery but not beach.

fishie · 27/05/2007 19:33

not monsoon unless they are a really good fit for you. also dress will have to fit your widest points so waist might get lost, skirt/trousers and top better. how are your legs?

hobbs good, perhaps also zara (although i have never been tehre!)

charmkin · 27/05/2007 19:44

my legs are ok, knees downwards
rest, well let's just say it's not pretty
could do trousers and a slinky top but bra would be issue if halter neck( would have to get new one)

I was about to post this earlier but accidentally pressed post too soon

Sparkletastic · 27/05/2007 19:53

I was having traumas about a similar night out I went on last night. Me = country bumpkin who never goes out, others = rich trendy thin city gals. We did drinks / trendy club. I actually wore an M and S dress from Autograph (can't do link thingy but is black and white big print with fluted sleeves and just above knee. Incredibly flattering (I'm a 14 with big norks too ) and only £35. Borrowed some killer black stillettoe heeled boots to wear with it. Felt fab and held my own with the trendies. They wore mainly skinny jeans with nice tops - one like a slinky tunic, one halterneck and one 'one shoulder showing' stylee. Enjoy yourself - I did much to my surprise!!

charmkin · 27/05/2007 19:56

thanks girls
have been browsing a bit myself
you're right sparkeltastic, is more the nerves. If was going out with fellow yummy mummies would just weaer what was "me". childless people my age inspire fear in me cos they have got lifestlye, money, figure and it's still not too late to ahve babies too ( am 33)

charmkin · 28/05/2007 17:31

Charmkin, have been in same situation more times than I care to remember! Have you asked what the others are wearing? Might help steer you to that particular group's dress code.
In my experience, there'll be a huge range of outfits, ranging from drop dead gorgeous to minging (no matter what they spent, they can't all buy style!)
Concentrate on making yourself look great - do your nails - manicure/pedicure if you have the time & money or DIY if not. Ditto hair. Once you've decided what you're going to wear, promise yourself you won't do any comparisons on the night. Focus on really enjoying yorself, and your personality will outshine whatever anyone else is wearing!

charmkin · 28/05/2007 17:52

thnkas lilolil
mummy friends seem much more accepting of indiviuality cos you know we've all been throught that experience
non mummy friends more intimidating and also have HOURs more shopping time and flat tummies adn non saggy boobs

Speaking as a size 14, I would steer well clear of white trousers!. They are very hard to get right unless you are tall and skinny (and even then a bit tacky, imo...) Sorry!

Agree a dress is the best option. Do you know the name of the places you're going to?
