I really do understand. But that situation isn't going to change in a hurry. So you need to focus on enjoying the night and trying not to be intimidated by the slim pert-boob brigade (even more of a nightmare when those with neat boobs, waists and bums HAVE got kids, but let's not go there!)I went to something similar a couple of years ago, and it really helped to know what one or two of them were wearing, so I wasn't way off the mark. Then sank so much champagne very quickly, what I was wearing was less of an issue!!!
I assume that at least the person who invited you must be a good enough friend to discuss your concerns with? If not, why are you going?!!!

charmkin · 28/05/2007 18:11

yes she is one of oldest friends
but my life took the married at 24 kids by 26 path
hers took the travelling, good job, marrying a french guy at 33 path

so is hard, we are old friends but not close or good friends if that makes sense

she would not understand my paranoia

I really like the lemon and grey bow top... looks ideal for your do. Suggest you try it on with your white trousers and see what you think.

Snaf · 28/05/2007 18:16

I don't think a size 14 is humoungous at all (and will happily beat up anyone who says different!) but I do think that white trousers are very tricky to wear well.

How are your upper arms? Can you do spaghetti straps, etc? Monsoon have some v. pretty and colourful dresses in their 'smart' section on the website.

lilolilmanchester · 28/05/2007 18:16

Well, you know what, I reckon the singletons will secretly be dead jealous of what you've got (we all know the reality of motherhood isn't always what it's cracked up to be - but they don't know that yet!!!)

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 28/05/2007 18:16

I would buy something from Monsoon

Heathcliffscathy · 28/05/2007 19:55

tunic top and white trousers fine, high wedges even better.

good if trews are linen....h&m have fantastic linen mix ones that look fab under tunic tops....£20 instore now.

Heathcliffscathy · 28/05/2007 19:56

i also think that both hobbes and moonsoon veer on the older side, really good for very smart/formal occasions (garden parties, races whatever) but not for night out with girls imo.

Twiglett · 29/05/2007 07:16

I would recommend if you have anything other than a boyish figure with small norks you avoid tunic tops like the plague

Hideehi · 29/05/2007 09:56

Go to Debenhams and get a personnal shopper to bring you lots of lovely Jasper Conran, Oasis etc.
You're hardly old and have a great figure, you should be looking at Warehouse, Karen Millen not bloody Monsoon.

HI Charmkin, not sure when your "do" is - have you decided what to wear yet? Would love to know as am similar size to you and often find myself in same position...

moodlumthehoodlum · 02/06/2007 18:22

Charmkin its ages since you first posted so you are probably all sorted but I had exactly the same dilemma a few weeks ago with my sil's hen night. In the end I magically found a funky long bluey greeny purpley top with a big print and sequins on (sounds HIDEOUS I know but really isn't) from, of all places, new look... I know I know, but EVERYONE - all the skinny minnies at the hen night, just loved it, and had it been really warm I would have felt happy with wearing it with white linen trousers because it was long (almost dress length), but sexy at the same time. And I am a similar size. You have probably gone out and bought something today though, so this post is "for information only.."

charmkin · 03/06/2007 13:34

oo just checked this
thanks everyone!
right
how does this sound

black and white linenish A line skirt - big patterns

GOOD bra with slinky black vesty top with a twisty bit on the boobs ( m and s)
black mules
chunky bangles

black and white is fairly classic innit? sort of early eve glam but will do forlater ( if I get that far, am exhausted just thinking about it...)

Sounds ideal to me. How do you think you look in it? If you're happy, go for it - then stop looking at this thread otherwise someone will come on and say "oooh no" and then you'll be back to square one!

Enid · 04/06/2007 20:04
