Are these shorts really unflattering?

Forever in search of a pair of shorts that fit me right. Popped into Jack Wills today a shame normally they have lovely items in stock there.
I bought these shorts, in my usual size 8. Took them home and didn't try them on as I buy quite a lot from there and was confident about sizing.
Just tried them on, expecting them to be fitted everywhere. However, the shorts are really loose around the groin area! Almost baggy?! This is particularly noticeable when you walk in them. Is there anyway I could fix this, or are these shorts just now made for me!? I definitely couldn't go down a size, as they would be too tight on the waist.
Here's a picture of them.

It looks as if they are baggy because the legs are wide. On the JW website the model has thinner legs than on ASOS and they look potentially baggy.

Normally roomy shorts wouldn’t be so up in the crotch, either, they wiould be slouchier. The slouch is bunched up in front rather than the shorts hanging low iyswim.

SandAndSea · 05/07/2018 19:38

I don't know much about fashion but I think you'd look good in almost anything.

PineapplePatty · 05/07/2018 19:54

No they aren't nice.

Keep looking you've got a cracking figure

AbFabQueen · 05/07/2018 19:57

I'm tempted to keep them solely for comfort reasons, but I know I'd be too self conscious stepping foot outside in them!

You look great OP
I’m a pear but I wish I was your kind of pear! im all thigh wobble and ass over here and can only dream of looking that good in shorts let alone size 8 shorts.
They look fine but I think you have such a lovely figure you could find some more flattering - perhaps just not the girlfriend style?

AbFabQueen · 05/07/2018 20:04

My thighs are wobbly , they just have a slight tan, so they look more toned 😂 You should have seen me with my pale wonky thighs two weeks ago before the sun came!

OP posts:
AbFabQueen · 05/07/2018 20:05

Wobbly, not wonky. Bloody autocorrect!

OP posts:
mmmgoats · 05/07/2018 20:52

haha I did wonder at the wonky. Seriously though, you look great and I think the shorts do your lovely figure a disservice! I think I would find the whole saggy crotch thing quite uncomfortable too (my problem is shorts look fine until I walk for a bit then my thighs seem to EAT them. Not a good look!).

UmbrellaPlants · 05/07/2018 20:59

You would really suit 50s style shorts with your lovely figure! Try Vivienne of Holloway

AbFabQueen · 05/07/2018 21:28

Thanks for te recommendation! I've never heard of Vivien of Holloway, I'll give be, a google now, and who knows, I may find the perfect pair of shorts! Fingers crossed

How are you a size 10/28 inch waist in jeans . You look like a 6 , not even an 8.

AbFabQueen · 06/07/2018 06:41

All my jeans are from Jack Wills, they have very small sizing in jeans, so you really have to size up a bit so they're comfy. Normally I'd be at least a 10 in shorts, but for some reason their clothing has become quite generously sized this season. I did buy a dress in a 6, however, I'm usually a size 8-10 in other places as well.

Going against the grain I think they look great. They’re really fashionable. Anything more fitted / longer and you’re straying out of high fashion and more into smart / classic territory. And that’s fine, if that’s more your style. It depends what you like but I do like these shorts on you. With converse or clumpy platform sandals or wedges I bet they would look really young and trendy. You have a great figure, the same size and shape as my 16 year old dd!

AbFabQueen · 06/07/2018 07:45

I'm not very fashionable to be honest, I'd worry I'd look ridiculous / trying too hard 😅

PatienceIsAVirtue1 · 06/07/2018 09:37

I think you should keep them, I think they look good. As one poster said, you might think they look a bit strange or feel a bit strange at first, as you might be used to wearing skinny jeans/tighter fit shorts. They look comfy too, which is always a bonus !

NameChangeUni · 06/07/2018 12:19

I don’t think they look that bad on actually, it might look better if you wear them higher on your waist? I just don’t like the design of them and would return them for that reason.

PepperPots1 · 06/07/2018 13:00

I follow Georgia Toffolo (Toff) on Instagram, and she owns this pair of shorts! I thinks she looks lovely in them, and so do you. Hers are definitely tighter...maybe you should try a size down?

PepperPots1 · 06/07/2018 13:15

Here's a link to her in them...they don't look baggy at all on her

I can’t get over you thinking you have big hips and thighs.

They look fine, are they for an event? They’re just shorts. Who’s looking at them but you?

I think you know you have a fab figure and can wear anything so just enjoy it.

CointreauVersial · 06/07/2018 15:38

They just aren't the right fit for you. Take them back and try something else. The style is good in general, but they are too loose across the front.

Regardless of what size you are, the cut of trousers and shorts is quite complex, and there will always be certain styles or brands that don't work on your figure. That's why, for example, I always buy trousers in Gap and Boden, and never in M&S.

muz2017 · 06/07/2018 15:58

They look to big for you, apart from that they look fine!

ScrubTheDecks · 07/07/2018 02:18

I’m at an event full of teens, and their shorts are all like this.

Coughy · 07/07/2018 06:35

They are horrid. You have a lovely figure surely you can find something else?!

Ellapaella · 07/07/2018 08:10

They look nice imo. You have a great figure and they look good - that style is everywhere at the moment. Because they are so high waisted I'd put them with a cropped t shirt or one of those knotted ones.

TrueBlue22 · 07/07/2018 08:20

Do you particularly want denim? Topshop have got loads of lovely fabric shorts at the moment.
