Is this absolutely lovely or utterly hideous?

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-dresses/midi-dresses/w0162-ora/womens-blood-orange-polka-hoops-antonia-wrap-dress

I'm honestly torn between the two. I feel like there's no middle ground with this one.

Even in the sale it's expensive so I need to be sure I'm not accidentally flouncing around the place in something vile!

I'm 41, tall and about a size 10. Would wear it dressed-down with white slip-on plimsolls and a tan tote.

Is the blue less hideous? More lovely?

I CAN'T TELL ANYMORE!!!

who is KM and why is she smiling at inner city children?!

thenightsky · 26/06/2018 16:12

KM = Kate Middleton.

I think it would look better with some lining in the skirt part. Because its a dropped hem at the back it shows the wrong side of the fabric behind the knees and below and this makes it look cheap and poor quality.

RightOnTheEdge · 26/06/2018 16:17

I don't like a lot of Boden,
(which is good because it's way out of my price range)

but I love that OP.

LighthouseSouth · 26/06/2018 16:18

@thenightsky

thanks!

I don't like many Boden dresses because they tend to be fussy and overly fitted, but I like the style of this one Also love the orange colour option (not the blue).

However I can see from here that it is a cheaper fabric - it's good that it's viscose and not polyester but because it's a wrap dress, it will flap open, revealing the reverse side of the fabric, which will be a bit cheap-looking because the reverse is so much paler. Ideally a dress like this would be silk crepe which would look similar on both sides so wouldn't have that effect.

But it could be a lovely summer dress if it fits you well. Just annoying that Boden isn't quite the quality it should be for the price! But you can always return boden - so get it and try it on!

MsJinglyJones · 26/06/2018 16:25

Ooh sorry, just seen the nightsky made the same point (less windily) :)

starkid · 26/06/2018 16:34

I like it, but don't like the price. Red polka dots are a weakness of mine :)

Davespecifico · 26/06/2018 16:40

Google ‘polka dot wrap dress’ and buy one of the ones that doesn’t cost £80.

PixelAteMe · 26/06/2018 16:55

I love the orange, I love the spots and I love the fact that it’s a wrap dress.

I’m jealous that you’re tall enough and slim enough to wear it, and I’m not

Paintbox · 26/06/2018 18:01

I love it. Nothing hideous about it at all.

makeupmaven · 26/06/2018 20:14

It's lovely, but I feel that you could find a similar style on ASOS for far cheaper.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 26/06/2018 20:38

Love the orange one but expensive! So unless you absolutely love it on I'd pass.

LadyWithLapdog · 26/06/2018 20:47

Jules has similar orangey spotty dress but shorter and without that hi-lo hem going on. Looks a bit Americana.

Fevs · 26/06/2018 20:51

I love the orange one! It is slightly pricey but worth it if it looks nice and you end up wearing it lots. I reckon go for it!

Sparkletastic · 26/06/2018 20:55

Love it. Definitely the orange.

Underparmummy · 26/06/2018 20:55

Not for me, and that price for viscose?!

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 26/06/2018 21:14

I think it's gorgeous. Buy it!

Gah81 · 28/06/2018 10:53

Just seen this - I have actually bought this dress in orange and love it. Am 5 ft 7, pale with auburn/copper hair and a size 8 hourglass and it nips in perfectly at the waist. Material drapes nicely and I received several compliments when wearing it the other day :)
