Is this absolutely lovely or utterly hideous?

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-dresses/midi-dresses/w0162-ora/womens-blood-orange-polka-hoops-antonia-wrap-dress

I'm honestly torn between the two. I feel like there's no middle ground with this one.

Even in the sale it's expensive so I need to be sure I'm not accidentally flouncing around the place in something vile!

I'm 41, tall and about a size 10. Would wear it dressed-down with white slip-on plimsolls and a tan tote.

Is the blue less hideous? More lovely?

I CAN'T TELL ANYMORE!!!

Expensive but loving the Orange colour

TheOrigFV45 · 26/06/2018 12:26

Wow! It is expensive (hadn't looked at that!).
Does it say how tall the model is?

BarbaraWarpecker · 26/06/2018 12:29

Love the orange colour. Looks great in the photo, with the model swishing about animatedly and flashing a leg. In Real Life, would it just hang down in an ordinary sort of way??? and not look quite so exciting??

Time40 · 26/06/2018 12:30

The orange is absolutely lovely. The blue is a bit boring.

SemperIdem · 26/06/2018 12:32

I like the blood orange far more than the blue.

Icklepup · 26/06/2018 12:38

The orange is nice but the pattern is horrible and the blue is awful.

I love it. The colour is great. It is expensive though, especially for viscose.

halfwitpicker · 26/06/2018 13:27

Personally I love it.

spanishwife · 26/06/2018 13:33

Lovely if you are tall and thin, for someone curvy with boobs - although it looks like a very flattering shape, it would actually look very mumsy. If that's your look though, a bit cath kidson and cutesy, then it's a nice dress and from Boden will be cut well.

spanishwife · 26/06/2018 13:35

Sorry forgot to read past clicking the link. If you're tall and size 10 then I think it would look lovely. White plimsoles are perfect, or netural strappy sandals (nothing heavy or clunky), what about dainty white leather slide type shoes?

saltedliquorice · 26/06/2018 13:37

I quite like it I am tall but not slim and slightly older than you. I think the midi length would be fab on you being tall and slim. I would order it and see whether or not it is your thing colour would depend on your colouring (blue is possibly safer I.e. less bold and eye catching).

CiderwithSusie · 26/06/2018 13:45

I have the blue, I am also 41, longish of leg and size 10 (with big boobs). It looks good on although I needed a slip and you may also want to pin the top depending on boobage. I wore it for a wedding though, it's fairly dressy in real life, I dunno if I'd wear it with converse or similar, I felt I needed a bit of a heel/wedge (just to cosplay KM properly!). I I like the orange too. I'm not usually much of a twee dresser, I don't think it falls into that category too much. Really not a Cath K fan! Just order it, you can always return it if you hate it!

Bugjune · 26/06/2018 13:53

I like it well enough on the model but have enough experience with Boden to know that adding in hips and tits will equal frumpy.

IwankaTramp · 26/06/2018 14:15

I can imagine it being one of those ‘stressful if the wind blows’ type of dresses which you are constantly grappling with the hem. I think it would only work if you have a tiny waist with all that belting and A-line.

The orange is the nicest colour. They should have done it cream/brown for a Pretty Woman at the races vibe.

JessiCake · 26/06/2018 14:19

I'm hip-less and boob-less Grin which might help.

Oh yes, it woudl look amazing as a Pretty Woman at the races thing... why don't more people do that dress, I wonder???!!

I think the pp who said it looked great all wind-blown in the pic but that it might just hang about in RL has it right...

I'm going to try and get a free delivery code if I can and then order it to try on.

My gut reaction is that it's probably not right. The belting does concern me, I'm slim but I don't need any extra lumpage around the waist, thanks!

Nice to see the love (or at least like) for it on here though!! So maybe I was right that at least it wasn't hideous?!

I'm not a twee dresser either CiderWithSusie, which is why I don't usually go for a polka dot or a wrap dress at all... I do think I'm being swayed by how swooshy and jaunty it looks on the model with all the wind being blown at her...

There is a delivery code on here somewhere hang on!

Ginmakesitallok · 26/06/2018 14:24

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/promotional_codesbargains/2794969-boden-codes?msgid=78928422#78928422. But apparently not working today

DarlingNikita · 26/06/2018 14:27

I like the style, print and colour but suspect the fabric will look rather limp and cheap.

Only way to tell is to try it though, I guess.

I'm pale too and certain oranges suit me. I don't like it much in the blue.

pieceofpurplesky · 26/06/2018 14:37

I love it - there was a woman in the same (or similar) when I was out the other day. She looked amazing

3DSpex · 26/06/2018 14:40

I like the cut of the dress but - like a lot of Boden - the print isn't nice. Large spots = Minnie Mouse.

The blue is better than the orange, though.

saltedliquorice · 26/06/2018 14:54

I think the colour depends on colouring so I would prefer the orange if ordering.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 26/06/2018 14:55

I love the orange one! But the model is dark haired and has a tan. I honestly think that's probably why the dress looks so striking on her.

Pale-skinned and light brown hair - I'm not as sure.

But I'd be delighted if I were proved wrong!

HildaZelda · 26/06/2018 15:33

I love the orange but not the blue, but then I'm not a fan of blue in general.

KickAssAngel · 26/06/2018 15:40

I think it's lovely and you could dress it up for going somewhere naice for lunch, or just wear it with plimsolls to be carefree & easy.

BUT - I loved Boden many years ago (about 15) but then started finding the quality went downhill quite rapidly, and haven't bought any for the past 10 years. I would worry that it wasn't worth 77 quid, more like 30.
