If you were 49 and a good size 14, but you wanted to look effortlessly glam and Boho, WHAT THE HELL WOULD YOU WEAR?!

As I have lived in jeans and boring safe work wear for the last few years. I have two posh things coming up and quite fancy the Boho maxi dress instablogger look. But fear I will look like a galleon in full sail in a floaty maxi. How can I replicate that look without looking like a fat twat??

Joe browns? Search for largenlook online?

Oddbutnotodd · 11/06/2018 04:05

What’s your budget? How tall are you? John Lewis personal shopping service. Hush or finery do that sort of thing for a reasonable budget. Monsoon maybe even H and M.

The Sienna Miller range at Debenhams (Nine?)

herecomesthsun · 11/06/2018 07:33

I think it all depends a lot on height and proportions, and what your best feature is. Do you want subtly or unsubtly to make the best of your bust, waist, long legs, slim hips etc or to camouflage other points?

A jumpsuit for example could be fabulously boho and chic, but I have a long torso compared to my legs, so that might not be the style for me.

For me, quite tall, I would be happy wearing a maxi with a V neck, a bit of a waist and a cut that skimmed my hips.

Gretol · 11/06/2018 16:53

I am tallish, 5 7/8?

I like that savanna Miller range. I quite like the navy star dress but not sure if its a bit dull.

I’ve got this dress for everyday, it’s very flattering on. I’m 47 and 5’7. Not sure if it’s posh enough though.

Gretol · 11/06/2018 17:01

I really like that. Not quite posh enough for what I want it for but I might try and find it in my local h and m aneyaySmile

No it’s probably not posh enough, but very easy to wear and doesn’t need ironing!

I’m thinking of buying this as well, which is a bit boho I think.

NotMeNoNo · 11/06/2018 18:13

Something with a waist? Like those dresses around that are like 1980s monsoon, kind of like Carey Mulligan at the royal wedding?

XiCi · 11/06/2018 18:19

Monsoon have some lovely maxi dresses in at the moment which sound like they would fit the bill

hendricksy · 11/06/2018 18:36

I have that dress linked about and it's lovely .. so swishy 🤗

I suggest you look at Masai . Not as voluminous as a lot of lagenlook and some good fabrics .
Most of my clothes are from Masai through eBay.
I am lusting after This one

welshmist · 11/06/2018 19:35

That is lovely Trumpton. I like Lagenlook but you do have to be careful which designs you use. I tend to incorporate them with nice trousers. Love my Olson white trousers with a lagenlook top. My favourite designer for quirky is Joseph Ribkoff....

teta · 11/06/2018 19:55

I’m honestly not sure whether I would wear top to toe boho. I’m 53 and size 24. I wear Boho tops with jeans or Boho skirts with t shirts but not full on boho . Would look like a floral carpet at 5ft 3.

teta · 11/06/2018 19:56

Size 14!

Trumpton · 11/06/2018 20:03

teta you got smaller very suddenly . I wear Masai dresses with skinny trousers or even the Next harem trousers .

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 11/06/2018 20:24

I’d go tailored, verging on corseted but eclectic on top and flouncy skirt.

Jonbb · 11/06/2018 20:25

The maxi thing is well outdated . . . unless black or white tie

purplecorkheart · 11/06/2018 20:33

Honestly, I am the worst for picking clothes so I travel to a big shopping centre with many stores that do an all store personal shopper thing. Might be worth a try.
