Big tummy & swimwear

I'm going away on a family holiday with friends and desperately need swimwear.

I have lost weight (post 3 children) and lost weight, was wearing size 22 at my biggest and now in size 16 through diet and exercise, but my tummy is horrible & disgusting. As not only do I still have a stomach I also have an overhand, loose skin.
Plus I also still have a big bum....

What swimwear can I wear to disguise this? I do have reasonable breasts and my waist isn't bad, but I want to wear something to feel comfortable on the beach.

Please help ....

Boden!

These ones are really flattering - m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-swimwear/swimsuits/s0017-nst/womens-navy_ivory-stripe-santorini-swimsuit

DontCallMeCharlotte · 31/05/2018 20:26

I have the same issue and just got this from Sainsbury's. You probably need to size down. The rucheing on the stomach is flattering and the fabric is busy enough to distract from your tummy. Even DH complimented me on it and I am a couple of sizes bigger than you .

MuddyForestWalks · 31/05/2018 20:29

Marks have some lovely colourful tankinis with ruching on the stomach in at the moment

IggyAce · 31/05/2018 20:32

I'm an 18-20 with a tum and I've just got this one from asda, it's flattering and I feel supported in the bust.

I personally feel all in one swimsuits are the worse thing to wear. You become just legs and seimsuit
They immediately draw you eye to the solid mass of material where obviously all your lumps and bumps are plus they morph your boobs into your body.

If you could find a high cut bikini so that your stomach was covered but you could still show off your waist and legs, it would distract from any excess wobble. And a good bikini top means people focus on your assets and their eye is immediately drawn to your tummy. If you aren't brave enough at least go for a tankini so you can hoik up when you lie down.

If you are going to Europe everyone under 70 wears a bikini regardless of shape and size ( they just find a shape that looks nice).

FreeMantle · 31/05/2018 22:58

The Boden one is nice. It's estentially doing the job of a tankini with the strip though. £60 too!

violet0805 · 31/05/2018 22:59

I have a Mum tum and I have one of the Asda blouson ones like the one @IggyAce has posted. It's really flattering and so comfy.

WaitrosePigeon · 31/05/2018 23:28

I bought this today www.justfab.co.uk/products/Layered-Ruffle-Tankini-SM1721318-4810?psrc=searchv2_search

egdehsdrawkcab · 01/06/2018 06:19

I can second the Boden ones, I've got two of them..... they keep their shape, hold you in, I've had countless compliments in mine!

Frombothsidesnow · 01/06/2018 06:37

I have a big tummy and small boobs. I've heard the bikini/tankini advice before but struggle to get bottoms that I feel comfortable in as I am reluctant to show the sides of my tummy. I do have a tanking which I spend a lot of time fiddling with when I wear it! Anyway, I bought this last week that is honestly the most flattering swimsuit I've ever put on.

I’ve got a swimdress. If you google you’ll find tons of hideous frumpy ones, but mine’s basically a black halter neck swim suit with an extra ruchy layer from under the bust down to crotch level I.e. covers bum. It looks sort of retro. I like it.

I’ve tried to attach something similar to give you an idea (first time adding a pic tho!).

Speedo shapewear are excellent but ££.

PrimalLass · 01/06/2018 07:53

I have a great one from M&S years ago. Looks like a tankini as the ruched top layer goes all the way round, but it has hold me in material underneath. I think Zoggs do a similar style.

BlueKittens · 01/06/2018 08:26

I got a secret slimming swimsuit in long length from M&S
It’s great- flattering and comfortable

starday · 01/06/2018 08:56

Thanks for the suggestions, it's not just a mum tum that I have but a real overhang / excess skin from weight loss plus a mum tum. The skin, and tum is very low down top so a lot of tummy control swimwear don't really help.

I do have the boden costume from a couple of years ago, It looked lovely on waist and top half but the stomach just looked bigger. I ended up with a joules (tankini attached swimming costume) but I think I was hoping for a miracle Costume

Mine's not just a 'mum tum' either. I've had it most of my life and constantly look 7 months pregnant. I was astonished by how good the M&S swimsuit looked and I would recommend trying one on. A friend of mine also has a suit with a skirt and it looks great.

PrimalLass · 01/06/2018 09:39

Look at Miracle Suits. They are expensive but maybe worth it.

ColinsVeryJolly · 01/06/2018 10:01

I got a great one from Asda a couple of years ago. It looks like a tankini but is all in one with a ruched top layer that can be pulled down enough to cover anything that you want covering.

I wonder if they still do that style, I’ll have a look.

ColinsVeryJolly · 01/06/2018 10:03

I think this is their recent version of it.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 01/06/2018 10:07

I’ve started wearing mens (you can get some nice prints) swim shorts with a tanking top. Costumes don’t work for me as the leg holes gape.

RNBrie · 01/06/2018 10:08

Hi OP, I'm the same as you. Three kids, size 24 to size 16, big overhang. This is the best swimming costume I could find after trying on about 100. I got actual compliments wearing it. You might need to size up though.

www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-control-cross-front-swimsuit-navy/p562059

I had a tummy tuck earlier this year and still bought another one in a new size cause it's so flattering.

essietopcoat · 01/06/2018 11:19

Debenhams beach collection do great tankinis, you can buy the top and bottoms separately - I've bought the tankini top with high waisted bottoms so that there is no risk of tum showing!
