Tall good quality non-frumpy dresses

peonylover22 · 23/05/2018 14:31

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to buy good quality dresses for tall women?
I am so fed up of waists around my rib cage and indecently short hems.
I am looking for tall dresses that are stylish and good quality. Do they exist? Many tall ranges are made from very cheap man-made fabrics or a bit frumpy...
I like Whistles, Jigsaw and LK Bennett and looking for similar style and price point.
I am looking to get a couple of casual dresses for summer and a couple of smart dresses for the office.
Any ideas?

Next tall is nice, I buy from new look and Dorothy Perkins tall range. ASOS recently started it too.

However I'm tall AND pregnant. I'm screwed! Nothing fits!

Shantotto · 24/05/2018 20:12

Wonder I found the ASOS maternity and nursing maxi dress plenty long enough - might be worth a look?

6’ here & hate LTS, they’ve been getting it wrong year after year (& I worked there 30 odd years ago - so have been frumpy forever!).

No secret niche brands I know if - TTYA seemed to start well but not sure if they are even still going (unsurprising with a £6 cheapest delivery, online only, pay for your own returns policy). Most of my clothes are ASOS Tall, BoohooTall, GAP Tall, Topshop Tall - the odd bit of Boden Tall for work. It’s better than it used to be for tall women, but not much! I’d agree with JCrew looking good - are there not any UK distributors?

Struggling for work dresses too, but bought this recently, sized up and its lovely www.zara.com/uk/en/textured-dress-p00264018.html?v1=5927087&v2=718502

Uniqlo!

GruffaloPants · 24/05/2018 20:59

I feel your pain. Don't love a waistband under my boobs.

Next tall are ok. ASOS too, though they have a habit of making nice things backless etc and so unwearable. Very tall is usually a bit crap, but worth a try if desperate. I've had some nice designer stuff from TK Maxx Gold Label e.g. Stella McCartney dress for £80, cut for taller proportions (I'm 6ft).

There is a site called EShakti where you enter your measurements and they make to order. I haven't tried it yet.

Hoping to hear of some new ideas here.

I've found my people. Defendants have petite, fuller figure and maternity.....but no tall. I'm sure we're all getting taller, so eh y ignore us? I've just bought a gorgeous blue flowery wrap dress from vera moda/ asos. Dotty p is hit and miss. Billie and blossom.tall can be good, but waist bands still but high. I'm 5'9.

IJustNeedAUserName · 25/05/2018 09:47

Some of the saintbustier stuff looks good. Has anyone ordered from them? How's the quality/cut in real life?

Almondio · 25/05/2018 13:12

I'm 5ft10 and love Warehouse midi dresses. They've got some beautiful stuff in stock at the moment, I tried on six (bought a jersey dress and a wide legged cropped jumpsuit) and they were all fabulous. Lovely quality too, decent fabric, cut well and a great length for taller people.

@IJustNeedAUserName. I have ordered from them. They sell a range of brands so the sizing will vary, but I’ve found them helpful with fit advice. I ordered a top rather than a dress, so can’t comment on the length in this instance.

SirVixofVixHall · 25/05/2018 14:43

I wonder whether Scandinavian brands come up better for us tallies ? I have an Ilsa Jacobsen mac, and it certainly seems designed for someone tall. I haven’t tried her dresses yet, but there are lots of maxi dresses.

teenagefanclub · 25/05/2018 14:47

Gap online does tall and I've got a shirt-dress that fits well. I like COS too but I tend to go for unstructured clothes so probably no good if you want fitted.

TroubledLichen · 25/05/2018 14:57

Topshop tall if you’re after something fashion forward?

J Crew does run quite big so if you’re usually a UK 12 you might find a US 6 fits even though it’s equivalent to a 10 on their size chart. I’m always an 8 on the British high street but my J Crew dresses are all an American 2 and I even have some skirts in a 0. Check out the factory store too, some excellent bargains!

peonylover22 · 25/05/2018 15:19

Is there a J Crew Factory Store in the UK? 👀

DozyDoates · 25/05/2018 16:01

Did someone say JCrew outlet?! In the UK?!
I quite like Boden's jersey dresses, current favourite is the Phoebe.

SirVixofVixHall · 25/05/2018 16:04

Ok dress from Arket arrived and it is just on my natural waist, a couple of inches above ankle length on me. it is this dress www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/dresses/product.f-ducharne-floral-crepe-dress-green.0622137003.html

TroubledLichen · 25/05/2018 16:08

So sorry! Doesn’t look like the j crew factory site currently ships to the UK Sad

The regular sale section on the main website is still good though, loads and loads of stuff including many tall dresses!

wonderstar1216 · 25/05/2018 18:42

@Shantotto I will have a look. Weary of buying anything maternity as not long enough in the body!

Petalflowers · 25/05/2018 18:44

Just about to suggest the Next tall range. Have you looked on the clearance section also?

Shantotto · 25/05/2018 18:55

@wonderstar1216 it was a t shirt style flowy maxi so no real body / waist length to worry about! Just one very long bit of material. It go shorter as my bump pushed it out more but it was definitely amongst the longest I found!

Depending what you need ASOS do do a few bits of tall maternity now.

Lulusmother · 25/05/2018 19:16

Next Tall but sometimes I get normal Next ( I’m 5:10) Dotty Ps, new look, ASOS are fab for tall girls !

saveyourkissesforme · 25/05/2018 19:59

My favourite midi dresses are from Cos and French Connection. Both wear well and are nicely cut. Look at the Cos cocoon dresses. I'm 5 8/9 and high waisted so perhaps not quite the same body as you but worth a look?

Beasmamma · 25/05/2018 20:08

Ooh very interested to see suggestions on this thread! I’m just under 6ft and always struggle. I used to quite like the Banana Republic tall range for work, although it seems that they don’t do it anymore? I’ve had some bits from Jaeger in the past that have been good.

Wonder - I found the longline vests and t-shirts from Primark were great while I was pregnant. I didn’t discover them until right near the end of my pregnancy and wish I had found them sooner, they fitted me right up until the end when my other maternity tops were much too short.

herecomesthsun · 25/05/2018 20:18

St Bustier are very tight on return times, it is 14 days and very rigid with it, so bear that in mind if you order from them (once was enough for me)
