Meghan: Duchess style

I loved her outfit at Prince Charles birthday party here

It had a real 30’s vibe. Loved the hat, especially at such a jaunty angle.

Her style has evolved so much since her engagement photos. Pared down tailoring is definitely her look.

Just had to give Camilla a quick mention; normally she is impeccable but yesterday’s outfit was just off. Green too bright, fabric too shiny, ruffles too much. A lighter shade of green In A Matt fabric and no ruffles would have suited her better. To me, she looked like a mint fondant fancy.

I thought the colour choice was reflecting she was so recently a new bride. Very elegant outfit. Nowt wrong with Primark tights, though I doubt Meghan's were.

winterisstillcoming · 23/05/2018 12:03

Ajandjjmum - yes it's that hand gesture that gives her away. I wonder how much more difficult it is for her as she's got a new role with no directions or script. It seems she's ditched her old self and is going to fake it until she makes it in her new one.

I'm sure she'll find the right balance eventually.

dinosaurkisses · 23/05/2018 12:11

The outfit was fine, but massively let down by the shininess of the tights- it was all I could look at!

wowfudge · 23/05/2018 12:13

I saw her on the news last night and didn't even notice she was wearing shiny tights.

AdaColeman · 23/05/2018 12:16

I wasn't keen on the pale pinky/beige colour on her, and the pale tights made her legs look too thin.

But I did like her hair style, so much better than those straggly locks especially with a hat.

( I think Amal would have looked better with her hair up on Saturday too).

BubblesBuddy · 23/05/2018 12:16

She's always had skinny legs! She's always been skinny. Tights are therefore a bit of problem. No doubt someone will sort her out! There is nothing wrong with a blush pink colour on Megham. That's also how you are supposed to wear that type of hat! Its designed to be at an angle.

I don't think the Middleton's have lavished Kate with £££ of jewellery. All hers will come from William or its borrowed from the Queen. She does not always wear ultra expensive jewellery either. She wears Annoushka and Kiki McDonagh earrings - so available to all.

The Middletons are close friends of jewelers Robinson Pelham whom they have long supported.

QueenOfMyWorld · 23/05/2018 12:19

I hope she doesn't start dressing old for her age like Kate does

BadTasteFlump · 23/05/2018 12:25

I hope she doesn't start dressing old for her age like Kate does

If yesterday's outfit is anything to go by, she's already started. I really didn't like it. The tights were awful - if she has to wear tights (some strange royal 'rule'?) then nude tights should be nude for her skin tone. The dress was frumpy I thought and did nothing for her figure. The length of it was awful - she looks much better in skirts that hit her on the knee - but then midi skirts look awful on most people, imo.

I've loved MM's style in everything I've seen her wear up until yesterday - which makes me wonder if she's being frumped down to fit in. I don't understand why the royal 'stylists' think to look classy you have to look so old fashioned. Honestly, MM's outfit yesterday aged her by twenty years.

DrEustaciaBenson · 23/05/2018 12:29

It would have been better had she worn more jewellery

A garden party isn't really an appropriate occasion for lots of bling.

user1499173618 · 23/05/2018 12:32

Then she needs to wear a prettier dress!

AdaColeman · 23/05/2018 12:36

Oh yes BadTasteFlump my first though on seeing the garden party photos was that she had only been a Duchess for three days but was already getting the Stepford Royal Wife look! Smile

wowfudge · 23/05/2018 12:57

Christ - it's not old for her age, it's elegant!

Morsecode · 23/05/2018 13:24

I think the outfit was sophisticated, down to the way the dress didn't cling to her. PP have mentioned it was oversized, but that's not necessarily the case.

Also wondered about the white tights, wonder if it's an American thing, that nude tights are not formal enough??

And LOL at the tiny little mind of user1499 - I understand that Meghan bought her Givenchy dress and diamond bridal jewellery outright. You know, out of her own money? No need to rely on daddy or mates' rates from Robinson Pelham for her!

wowfudge · 23/05/2018 13:25

At least she'll never be seen in a cold shoulder top, eh?

Morsecode · 23/05/2018 13:25

Oh and Doria was wearing white-hued tights at the wedding too, that's why I wondered about the "ban" on nudes.

ajandjjmum · 23/05/2018 14:12

Where is Doria? Has she already gone back to the States? Just thought.

SemperIdem · 23/05/2018 14:18

I like the outfit

SamanthaBrique · 23/05/2018 14:18

She's so pretty she'd look good in a bin liner but all that beige made me think she'd decided to dress as one of Kate's shoes!

Someone needs to tell her about Falke's Shelina tights too - several shades of nude and almost completely invisible. Her pre-wedding style was a lot more modern so I hope she returns to that.

jeanne16 · 23/05/2018 14:25

Does anyone know why Kate and William weren’t at Charles’s birthday party?

user1499173618 · 23/05/2018 14:37

William was giving a speech in Manchester for the anniversary of the bombing. Kate is on maternity leave.

Morsecode · 23/05/2018 15:23

Wonder if user1499 is the banned racist poster - odiledecaray or something?

TSSDNCOP · 23/05/2018 15:33

I thought the DoS looked fabulous, but agree on the hosiery shade.

Yes, you do need tights to wear to a formal occasion like a Buckingham Palace garden party, but Pretty Polly I’m Sunblush are her friend.

The DoCornwall had the colour wrong with that mint, adding white made it look like a china teapot. Then again, she says sent normally hit a bum note so we’ll call it an exception.

Can we get away from calling Kate and Meghan Middleton and Markle respectively, it sounds as though we are channelling the Fail

MrsPear · 23/05/2018 16:46

Loved the dress and hat on the new duchess - I agree it had a 30s vibe and the hat was a fun angle. I’m just a tad, as in a year, older and if I had her shape - I’m a pear so need more flare out - I would wear it. But the tights were all wrong - a pair of light sheers would have been better.

The duchess of Cornwall was not her usual on point self but at least she is still experimenting that is something to aspire too.

eloisesparkle · 23/05/2018 17:34

I can't believe Meghan has succumbed to the Royal tights rule- as did Kate.
I thought they'd be their own women and just say 'No, I am not going to wear synthetic covering on my legs in hot weather'
But they didn't Sad
