Have you ever had a satisfactory denim skirt?

I’m wondering if I should bother? When I was in my 20s I had a nice denim min skirt. And thinking how handy jeans are in my daily uniform, I thought a denim skirt could take their place in the spring / summer. Last year I bought two, one A line and above the knee. The second midi. The shorter one digs in around my tummy (no longer comfortable after having kids) and the midi one flaps and is unflattering wth all that heavy material. Not good as a midi skirt.

Has anyone found one that is useful and comfortable and flattering? Wondering if it’s worth persevering or should I delegate to the past?

@Growingboys no problem assume you know sum18 is free delivery and returns

goose1964 · 07/05/2018 19:31

Mine are both ancient, a knee length one in a flowery denim from Monsoon, and an ankle length one with a slit up the back to just past the knee.

halfwitpicker · 07/05/2018 19:50

Yes, a pale denim pencil type one. Basically, it didn't look like a denim skirt.

Joinourclub · 07/05/2018 20:02

I have a midi chambray skirt that I wear s lot in summer.

WeShouldOpenABar · 07/05/2018 20:05

I have the fat face one in blue and just ordered in black as its my staple now

Peanutbuttercups21 · 07/05/2018 20:36

Yes, the fatface one here too

Denim skirts only really work if above the knee, and not too wide/baggy imo!

CountFosco · 07/05/2018 20:52

I had a great one on the 90s. Now I have an a-line button mini that's a perfect colour but size too big since I lost weight and so is too baggy round the arse.

dontcallmelen · 07/05/2018 21:01

Does anyone know if hush, are true too size as I find it very difficult to get skirts that fit my narrow hips, I do sometimes buy kids jeans & skirts but would be nice to buy adult stuff now & then😳

Peanutbuttercups21 · 07/05/2018 21:57

Hush come up about a size big on me, and I am "hippy"

I have a lovely denim skirt. It’s about 20 years old now though Blush.

It’s quite light denim, a line with a zip at the back. It is good because it Sits higher on my waist if I’m a bit heavier than normal or a bit lower on my hips if I’m a bit lighter than normal.

trixymalixy · 07/05/2018 22:12

In fact this is it. It’s above the knee on me as I’m tall though.

peonylover22 · 07/05/2018 22:35

Yes. It’s from Warehouse 3 years ago, a line, above the knee. Sits on my hips with a zip up the back. No pocket details but does have side concealed pockets. It’s very flattering.

Thanks everyone! Maybe I’ll try some more then. Grateful for your thoughts

Trixy - that Miss Sixty one is perfect apart from the fact it looks like a small is too small for me. Do you have the small? I am a size 10-12. If you have it, do you think it might fit me?

silkpyjamasallday · 08/05/2018 09:06

I had the perfect denim mini skirt as a teen, cut from old Levi’s jeans that found in a vintage shop. Sadly post baby it no longer fits, and I think it’s because my hips are wider, I’m keeping it in hope that when I lose my last stone of weight it will just about fit again. I’ve tried to replace it but I haven’t found one that is cut as well, I find very A-line skirts odd looking and the original was almost straight. If you are prepared to hunt around in vintage shops you may find the holy grail of denim skirts, just not as simple as shopping online

trixymalixy · 08/05/2018 09:46

Margarita, I have a large which is a size 14 although I have worn it when I was a size 12 too.

There is a medium on eBay too if you think he small would be too small. here

margaritasbythesea · 08/05/2018 10:50

Ooo thank you very much. I did look but didn´t find that one for some reason. I reckon I would have to be an M.

OCSock · 08/05/2018 14:46

White Stuff usually have denim skirts that hit around/above knee length; I've worn mine (narrow straight fit with back vent, dark indigo, five pocket style) more in winter than summer TBH. Very useful over gym kit.

JennyWren · 08/05/2018 16:21

I have the Seasalt Landscapist one - I really like it.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 08/05/2018 16:24

I have one from White Stuff, probably around 4 or 5 years old now but still gets worn.

SpanxOnLetsGo · 08/05/2018 16:52

The Hush one looks nice....but I shall resist, as every single bloody year I buy and then fail to wear yet another holy grail denim skirt 😩

I’ve come to the conclusion they jus don’t suit me (tall hourglass shape). The Boden one was atrocious on me. Very 90s shape and unflattering on my chubby arse.

BanyanTree · 08/05/2018 18:01

I got a button up one from All Saints. I love it.

Tryingtogetitright · 09/05/2018 12:39

I got a Gap one for £2.99 in a charity shop a couple of months ago. It's perfect! Just above the knee, A line, soft but tough denim. I've worn it loads in this hot weather. Have a couple of others that I paid much more for but one is too short and one is too tight....!
