Have you ever had a satisfactory denim skirt?

I’m wondering if I should bother? When I was in my 20s I had a nice denim min skirt. And thinking how handy jeans are in my daily uniform, I thought a denim skirt could take their place in the spring / summer. Last year I bought two, one A line and above the knee. The second midi. The shorter one digs in around my tummy (no longer comfortable after having kids) and the midi one flaps and is unflattering wth all that heavy material. Not good as a midi skirt.

Has anyone found one that is useful and comfortable and flattering? Wondering if it’s worth persevering or should I delegate to the past?

I am searching for the Ultimate Denim Skirt, most are too stiff and end up surrounding my legs like a giant denim bell

I bought one from Sainsbury Tu last year , softer and slight stretch (bit short but ok)

Last year DD was looking ...had to be : proper denim skirt , with a zip+ fasten like jeans. No rips, no logos or embriodery. Finished hem no raw edges. The right shade of blue, not bleached or dark indigo.
Eventually after so much searching, Urban Outfitters BDG brand had the one.

Surprisingly, I have one from the 915 kids’ range in New Look - button fly, light denim, frayed hem and it was about £12! Got age 14-15 and it fits lovely - I’m an 8-10 but C straight up and down!

Zara also do some nice ones but the sizing and fit can be weird.

I have a mini one from Asda kid's section, had it around 5yrs, it's fine, I mean nice but hardly groundbreaking in the fashion sense iykwim.
I generally wear it with a t-shirt and Converse.
I find the midi, knee length ones very frumpy, like the summer version of boot cut jeans and block heeled boots.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/05/2018 16:05

Spotty, how funny, that's exactly what mine's like tooGrin

I decided to try sewing last year, after failing miserably at it when I was younger. Surprisingly, it wasn't a total disaster! The second piece of clothing I made was a denim skirt and I love it.

I know that's not what you were after, but I highly recommend trying to sew if you're at all interested.

I have a good one from Gap

Ididnthearanything · 07/05/2018 16:23

Nope. Never found one.

I’ve decided to stop looking, I’ve grown out of the phase of denim skirt and ach they’re only ok as a clothing item anyway. My time is far better spent seeking out other perfect items - skirt, midi dress patterned but not too flowery, perfect sandals, perfect foundation, perfect bra. The list goes on. Grin

I've got a Rohan one that I love, great quality denim, falls just above the knee, really useful item. I kind of forget that I'm wearing it if that makes sense, it's so easy to wear and comfortable which is how I feel about my favourite jeans.

I'm mourning a lightweight wrap over one that had tiny shorts underneath. Wore it to death in my teens!! Never seen any others like them. Sad

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/05/2018 16:28

I like the idea of them but every time I wear mine I feel like Barbara Royle and it puts me right off. I think I am wearing them too long but any shorter doesn’t work for my body/age unfortunately!

Have you ever had a satisfactory denim skirt?
Spottyyellowdress · 07/05/2018 16:36

@ihavebrillohair clearly the kids’ section is the way forward!

redtulip12 · 07/05/2018 16:43

I have been looking for the perfect denim skirt for years. Have made do with cheap options which never looked quite right. Just bought this one which I love. Comes in a longer length too.

I had a gorgeous pleated kilt shape denim skirt in the 90's. Just the right length, which was about 3 inches from my crotch in those days. Would love to fine one now, although slightly longer.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/05/2018 16:52

Mine is v similar to the Hush one and cost around £8 if I remember correctly, kid's departments are the best Grin

mercurymaze · 07/05/2018 16:54

Yes from fat face one dark blue and one faded denim really comfy

Growingboys · 07/05/2018 17:01

Hello redtulip I love that skirt and am going to order it.

Do you have a Hush code by any chance?

Thank you!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/05/2018 17:14

I've got this M&S midi one and have been enjoying wearing it, although I'd have preferred it a couple of inches shorter.

Still looking for the perfect mini one - the one I have is too stiff and too clingy (although the right size).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/05/2018 17:15

Just seen they do the midi one in a petite fit too, so may go and try that on in the bleached denim.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/05/2018 17:18

I’ve recently bought a Topshop A line mini with zip up the front and patch pockets. I love it!

redtulip12 · 07/05/2018 17:19

@Growingboys hi yes I can send you a £10 hush referral code if you pm me your email address

Growingboys · 07/05/2018 18:25

Thank you so much redtulip but I am very much not a new customer so I don't think that'll work.

Really appreciate it though!

Am going to get that skirt by hook or by crook but going to hang on for a code for a little bit first. Thanks so much for the rec.

Frombothsidesnow · 07/05/2018 18:28

Had a lovely lightweight cotton denim A line mini. It was from Bay Trading and I bought it in 1993. Sob.

endehors · 07/05/2018 18:31

A dark blue denim A-line just above the knee skirt from Boden.

neveradullmoment99 · 07/05/2018 18:32

I have the hush one. Its lovely. I also have the longer version. Equally lovely.
