What was your favourite outfit as a teenager?

I find it really interesting looking back on what I wore when I was younger...I was very shy as a teenager and I think that was reflected in my clothes. Looking back now, I dressed in stripy tops and denim skirts, they made me invisible. They didn't look bad, but they were the sort of thing I could still wear now as a forty something year old! I always regret not wearing crop tops because I was self conscious. Wish I could go back and inject some confidence in myself!
What did you wear when you were younger, do you think it gave a clue as to your personality?

Oops, that first post was a bit long. What I was trying to say was that I wish I'd had more fun with clothes when I had the chance

Wide leg/flared jeans that scuffed on the ground as I walked, and a nice tshirt or top. My favourite top was a crochet style blue top - long sleeves and scoop neck. I don't know if it gave much of a clue to who I am - I liked being casual, not showing too much skin but also made an effort to pick interesting tops. That's still who I am.

Namechange2day · 01/05/2018 16:05

Can't remember a specific outfit, but loved my brown leather jacket. It was the height of fashion in the 80s and I thought I was cool in it. That and my perm.

OCSockOrphanage · 01/05/2018 16:05

A very smelly Afghan!

catinapoolofsunshine · 01/05/2018 16:12

I wasn't really confident until I left home. My mother convinced me that I was fat and so I wore clothes that covered me - jeans and baggy tops - until I lost weight on my gap year and tried all sorts of hippy outfits bought on street stalls in Thailand, and little tiny sun dresses bought in Bali, and cropped jeans and crop tops bought in Australia and shortie dungarees with a cropped t shirt underneath... went a bit nuts with the skin on show in a hippie styler when I discovered nobody threw up and I got male attention Blush but I had fun and am glad I did have that confident phase pre social media and even pre digital cameras

Madbengalmum · 01/05/2018 16:17

Brown leather jacket, curly perm, joe bloggs jeans(remember them?)

😂🤢

BlueEyedWonder · 01/05/2018 16:17

Indie band t-shirts with denim cut off shorts, opaque tights, velvet jacket and DMs.

Alternatively, flared jeans and converse.

BabloHoney · 01/05/2018 16:19

90s Britpop band t-shirt of some description.
Tatty leather jacket.
Doc Martens, always!

Topped off with some ridiculous cheap hair dye.

SO glad that social media and camera phones were not around when I was a teenager!

GoldenBuns · 01/05/2018 16:21

A pair of my dad's old flairs from the seventies (he was not a tall man) matched with a beautiful cream jaeger jumper (think Jackie O style - little gold button on pockets) which I found in a local charity shop. Finished off with a pair of brown weathered dms. I still have the jumper, but sadly I am too fat it is too delicate to wear now.

Cheesymonster · 01/05/2018 16:22

Jeans with ripped knees, bomber jacket, black lace up shoes with Grolsch bottle tops on them. Guess which group I was a huge fan of Grin

EyeRollChampion · 01/05/2018 16:31

Massive corduroy flares
Lackey gothic tops
The odd (child's) pyjama top
Children's character socks
Skater trainers

I was a bit of a weirdo tbf

LockedOutOfMN · 01/05/2018 16:35

A tiny, white 'hipster' skirt made of the same fabric as white jeans. I also had a black polyester one with a mock belt buckle that was like the metal piece across the front of loafers. Paired with very high black satin platform mules and a cropped T shirt with a v neck that was grass green with a bright orange trim. This was around 1996. All items from Topshop. How on earth did my parents let me out in that get up?!

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 01/05/2018 16:36

The very first outfit I bought with money saved up from my 50p an hour after school job:

Hacking jacket, cream cotton lace Victorian blouse, brown cords, all from Chelsea Girl c 1977!

blueskyinmarch · 01/05/2018 16:37

As a 14 year old in 1976 - Black wide legged trousers with a high waist and red three strand belt, a white blouse with a big collar and a red/white/black striped tank top. Cannot think what i wore on my feet at all. I wasn't allowed platforms!

TomRavenscroft · 01/05/2018 16:39

Oh man.

Mid- to late 80s, those sweatshirts with cartoon animals kind of embossed/printed on them – anyone remember those? With ski pants. My favourite pair were a kind of institutional blue. and any old trainers. I was a tomboy and immature for my age, so was in comfy running-around gear until way too long into my teens.

Then I went goth and favoured grey or black leggings with giant slouchy socks, DMs and a long shirt –I had a green silk one that TBH I wouldn't mind having again, and also one of my dad's from the 60s or 70s in a rather violent paisley print.

At uni during Britpop, I was always in a short skirt (I loved my hot-pink satin one), opaque black tights, low-top old-school trainers and a skinny and sometimes cropped black T-shirt. Can't remember what I used to wear when it wasn't warm, come to think of it Confused. I do remember having a black coat with a big fake-fur collar but don't remember any jumpers or cardigans.

I'd quite happily wear my uni get-up again now Grin

PortBlacksandResidentStill · 01/05/2018 16:41

Flowery lightweight sleeveless dress
Tight black T Shirt under
Black Leggings under black or purple knee high DMs
LOADS of bangles from the local sari shop
Loads of eyeliner
I couldn't have looked more mid-90s if i'd tried.

Isn't it amazing how DMs are so popular but so rebellious-feeling at the same time.

caringiscreepy · 01/05/2018 16:42

Tight Low rise black flares/jeans/ cropped jumper or... band tshirt and very short skirt/ high heels and leg warmers. Always leg warmers.

imsorryiasked · 01/05/2018 16:43

I was very uncool but my nan took mittee shipping for my birthday when I was 14. I chose a bright turquoise cotton shirt and matching turquoise and black striped pencil skirt. I thought it was the best thing ever but I have a feeling I probably looked terrible. Never seen a photo of me in it so thankfully consigned to history.

Takfujuimoto · 01/05/2018 16:46

I was sooooooo not a grunge girl of the nineties, my favourite outfit was an old pair of black Capris that I stole from a summer waitressing job a thin soft grey turtle neck, a 70's old man style tan leather jacket and some black Vans and I used to ride my bike in that everywhere.

If I was feeling fancy I'd top it all with a tweed trilby 🤣

PortBlacksandResidentStill · 01/05/2018 16:47

Oh and my Grandma crocheted me a big slouchy knee length jumper made out of colourful squares (she was quite aghast that was what i wanted). I loved that jumper!

RavenLG · 01/05/2018 16:55

iklboo we could have been twins with the striped bardot and DM outfit!

I very clearly remember a pink striped bardot top I wore all the time. Looking back I looked like some girly version of Dennis the Menace.

Goth anything I was into. These trousers (or very similar) was also a staple, with a mesh top with only a bra underneath (I was chubby too so it was not a good look!)

What was your favourite outfit as a teenager?
BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 01/05/2018 17:01

Cropped vest top, dungaree shorts and DMs.

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 01/05/2018 17:04

Red cropped combat / pirate trousers with pockets and tasselt
Black 'red or dead' strappy high heel sandals with studs
A black string vest with black bra underneath
Black chocker
Jesus Christ it sounds awful writing it down!! 🤣

HildaZelda · 01/05/2018 17:04

I had a red maxi dress with white flowers on it that I absolutely loved when I was about 15 or 16. Looking back now it was absolutely hideous. Even more so when worn with Max Factor panstick (no 13 naturally) and Heather Shimmer lipstick. Ah the 90's!
