What was your favourite outfit as a teenager?

I find it really interesting looking back on what I wore when I was younger...I was very shy as a teenager and I think that was reflected in my clothes. Looking back now, I dressed in stripy tops and denim skirts, they made me invisible. They didn't look bad, but they were the sort of thing I could still wear now as a forty something year old! I always regret not wearing crop tops because I was self conscious. Wish I could go back and inject some confidence in myself!
What did you wear when you were younger, do you think it gave a clue as to your personality?

Fishnets on my arms and weird Lacey nighties and ridiculous rock boots.
Just seen my Mum today and she commented "I can't believe it's twenty years since I used to watch you two (my best friend and I ) walking out of the house like a pair of crows with a Barbie backpack.

Black velvet long sleeved low back super clingy mini dress with lace panel down the front with opaque black tights & black suede pointy lace up stiletto ankle boots & MASSIVE hair & loads of jewellery. Trad goth in the 80’s

Floisme · 01/05/2018 18:39

Royal blue corduroy hotpants with bib, green satin shirt and purple midi coat with a (hopefully fake but who knows...) fur trim round the hem.

NotMeNoNo · 01/05/2018 18:41

Enormous black sweatshirt, stripy red and black or side lace up trousers from the Goth shop, lace up suede boots, eye liner. I'd wear it all again now!

My favourite outfit was an orange and black tie dye long skirt with a matching top that i got from the indoor narket, i used to team it with yellow suede pointy shoes.
Also quite partial to pepe jeans and A LOT of black.

I was new romantic influenced.one of my favourite items which was a high necked white blouse. It had a mesh vneck and a frill where it met the rest of the blouse. I wore it with either tight jeans and high heeled ankle boots or a beige and white full skirt and boots, the latter was called my russian outfit.

BBTHREE76 · 01/05/2018 22:24

Massive blonde streaked perm. Black velvet mini dress, bright red lipstick and a tonne of black eyeliner. Or.... same hair and make up but with a band t shirt and jeans. I was a late 80s rock chick babe 😂😂

SapphireSeptember · 01/05/2018 22:40

My favourite outfit age 16 was a long sleeved burgundy velvet top with a square neckline, long swishy black silk skirt, both charity shop finds, and black skate shoes that I wore until they fell apart. Or my old Evanescence t-shirt with black bootcut jeans, the same shoes and a studded belt. (I miss that t-shirt, I charity shopped it when it started getting holds a couple of years ago and wish I hadn't, it's not like I've stopped wearing Evanescence t-shirts, I have five of them!)
I also wore a shit tonne of jewellery, I felt under-dressed if I wasn't wearing about 40 bracelets, six necklaces and as many rings as I have fingers. Grin

Glitteryfrog · 01/05/2018 22:41

Baggy jeans which trailed through puddles
Band tees or crop tops
Vans/sketchers
Baggy hoodies

I became a teenager early 80s so thankfully most of the time I was in school uniform.

I do remember wearing the Di-style needlecord black knickerbockers with matching bolero jacket and a cream lace frilly shirt (from Etam) quite a few times and I loved my candy striped ra-ra skirt and T-shrt from the early 80s. I also remember having a massive perm, with the back-combed front and 'wings' at the side covered in gel and the whole thing plastered with hairspray and wearing a lot of shiny blue eyeliner. Blush

Late 80's I went for the bodycon Alaia-style tight, short lycra dresses with heels. I actually wish there were more photos from those days as I was actually pretty hot then! Otherwise I lived in my 501s and tops.

madamedepoppadom · 02/05/2018 10:25

I went through several looks, but by the time I went to sixth form I was definitely aiming for boho. One outfit that sticks in my mind was a straight black skirt, purplish grandad shirt that I thought was the epitome of cool because I bought it in Carnaby Street, and a charity shop waistcoat with a small colourful flower print on a black background, which did up with those knotty buttons like on Chines jackets. Worn with tan and pink strappy sandals in summer, I can't remember what in winter. I loved jeans in theory but was never quite satisfied with mine - they weren't skinny or holey enough. I should have thought of looking for those in a charity shop!

I was a nerd at school but at 13 I randomly asked for a flouncy red cord skirt and over the knee socks Shock for my birthday and also got a grown-up haircut. I went to swimming club in this get-up and several people from school were genuinely amazed and said i looked great! I think I can date my love of clothes back to that day :o

Later I got more gothy and saved up for a long shirt made out of a patchwork of several dark, gothy fabrics from a scary goth shop in Leeds that played Bauhaus. I wore the shirt with leggings and hi-top black trainers. I loved it so much! I remember my mum being baffled at my outfit (which made me love it even more of course).
