'Funky not feminine' - can anyone help dd dress for prom . . .?

She has decided that she does want to go - so now needs an outfit Grin Criteria as above - she says no dresses, no jumpsuits, colours fine but needs to be wearable with oxblood DMs. She's 5 foot, and very slim - size 6 or 8 at a stretch I guess.

Suggestions would be very, very welcome (can you guess she also hates shopping . . .)

All Saints clothes have a tough edge?

Silk top and skinny trousers like this www.allsaints.com/women/tops/allsaints-blaze-top/?colour=5&category=21726

Or (sorry, it is a dress!) something like this with 300 denier tights? www.allsaints.com/women/dresses/allsaints-jayda-dress-wd554n/?colour=5&category=22

Good luck!

catography · 25/04/2018 21:54

Also &other stories have some BEAUT dresses in that would look ace with DMs

Sadik · 25/04/2018 21:55

Allsaints is a good idea - will have a browse for her. The dress is fabulous (and I would love it!) but sadly is a definite no-no - has to be trousers.

I've actually just found a really slim fitting tux at Zara which might be a simple answer with a funky shirt.

Suits and trainers are very in at the moment.
Something like this here

BlackHillsofDakota · 25/04/2018 22:03

Oh I've just seen the bit about DM's maybe not then sorry

slug · 25/04/2018 22:07

DD is wearing a Paul Smith suit loaned from my friend whose menopausal weight gain means she'll ever wear it again GrinShe's wearing it with docs and a top from Primark

Try eBay or charity shops perhaps?

Sadik · 25/04/2018 22:10

The DMs aren't a given - suit and trainers would also be acceptable, I think.

We've had a quick browse and she really likes the black version of this Typically, of course, the small is sold out . . .

We've also found this zara tux which I've suggested might be a good neutral option that she could dress up or down in the future for all sorts of events.

Sadly charity shops round here aren't much use for anything other than BonMarche fleeces Grin Ebay is usually our go-to, but time isn't on our side here!

Just bumping for any more suggestions!

Maybe a suit in similar colours to the DMs?

I like the black version of that jacket you linked to above OP - shame it's sold out in her size.

Ok so I know you said no dresses and also I have no idea what people wear to proms in 2018 but I saw this the other day and thought if only I were slimmer and 25 years younger I would totally buy it:

UmSrsly · 26/04/2018 19:34

Having now looked properly at your links i think my suggestion might be way off mark...sorry!

Bostin · 26/04/2018 19:37

Tuxedo?

Bostin · 26/04/2018 19:39

Victorian sleeveless blouse and black trousers?

OlennasWimple · 26/04/2018 19:48

Would this black jumpsuit be deemed too feminine?

OlennasWimple · 26/04/2018 19:52

Asos have lots of nice blazers and suits (including mix and match). I really like their cocktail blazer

goose1964 · 26/04/2018 20:45

this? it's from EMP so definitely not run of the mill

Victoriana style ruffled shirt with funky waistcoat / black trousers and maybe bow tie seems to be getting a tentative thumbs up . . .

How about something like this: www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/product/evening_cod12789547614858872.html#dept=INTL_Evening_CLOTHING

There are cheaper options, obviously, but I quite like the jacket (not a classic blazer, but not too out there either) and the leather/coated jeans combination.

There's also this top: www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/product/short-sleeved_cod22305376260455046.html#dept=INTL_Evening_CLOTHING
Styled with trousers here: cdn.yoox.biz/54/54131075qn_11_q.jpg
I think it would look good with other types of trousers too.

And finally, a bomber jacket a little bit similar to the one you linked: www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/product/evening_cod4772211931418274.html#dept=INTL_Evening_CLOTHING

Sadik · 26/04/2018 21:20

That first jacket / coated jeans outfit is exactly the sort of thing dd would wear, RiskIt - sadly I think a bit out of budget Grin

Having said that an ebay search on Rag & Bone suggests it might be worth seeing what turns up over the next little while (DD has finally established the date, and she has until July to find something)
