It really is a miracle cream...

My DS has ocd. He’s had a lot of treatment, over the years and we know that the next step is inpatient treatment. The is no unit locally so, he’d need to be in The Maudsley (London) but he has to wait til he’s 18. He’s 17 now.

Recently, he’s taken to scrubbing his skin with just about anything he can get his hands on. I removed anything potentially abrasive but, even a soft facecloth can be a weapon in the wrong hands.

He came to me on Saturday morning and said his skin was itchy and sore. “Where abouts?” I asked. “Well, all over, really”. I asked him to show me and was shocked to see there were big (side plate sized) parts of his body which had no skin at all. Groin, back of knees and inside elbows. He flatly refused the gp but agreed to my putting cream on. So Sat evening, Sun morning & evening, same Monday and this morning I slathered it on. This am, whole areas of skin that were burnt looking with the skin broken and bleeding, are pretty much healed.

I know it’s neither stylish nor particularly beautiful but AVEENO CREAM with COLLOIDAL OATS is a miracle formula. Better than anything the doctor gave me in the past and though it’s expensive for the amount I need to use am and pm, it works.

Just saying... 😊

Sucha every time!!!! I bumped into a friend at the food counter in half term and she said, isn't it such a great cheap lunch for the kids?

Not when you've already spent 400 quid it isn't Grin

OP I couldn't agree more, it's the only thing that keeps on top of my Ds eczema.

I think half of my posting history on here is popping into threads and recommending it!

CarpeVitam · 24/04/2018 23:51

I didn't know they did a face cream either!

blossomy · 25/04/2018 00:00

Superdrug do student discount on top. Smile

suchatiredbunny · 25/04/2018 07:12

A few years ago you could get the skincare range here, last time I bought some was in TKMaxx three or four years ago. I guess it wasn't popular enough for boots to keep it going.

A dermatologist recommended it for a small patch of eczema that no prescription cream would shift. In fact one of the prescribed creams made it flare up and spread over the face. At the time Aveeno was not readily available in the UK, it must have been well over 20 years ago, and the pharmacy had to order it in. It was the only cream that worked. We always have a tube in the house now. It's such a soothing cream. You can get it on prescription too, DF had it prescribed during chemo. I usually pick some up at Costco.

citygirl1961 · 25/04/2018 22:54

Can you use the Aveeno cream as a wash does anyone know?

Ohyesiam · 25/04/2018 23:06

I’m an aveeno lover, and was shown that you can just use oats in the bath too, put a handful on a sock , tie it and put it under the running tap, squish it a bit before you get in, and it’s a big bath of aveeno! Great for when my skin is really bad, or when I run out .

MayFayner · 26/04/2018 08:17

This is the face cream. I started using it because I have rosacea. I'm not sure how much it helps with that but it's just a really nice moisturiser. I get it from Boots.

It really is a miracle cream...
SukiTheDog · 26/04/2018 21:19

@OhYes, good tip!

@May, I need to have a look for that. SPF too.
@Citygirl... not sure. I thought they did a cleansing wash?

OP posts:
SukiTheDog · 26/04/2018 21:31

@May....can’t find it on Boots website? Where did you get it?

MayFayner · 26/04/2018 21:58

I'm in Ireland suki but the ranges in Boots are generally the same as the UK.

MayFayner · 26/04/2018 22:03

That's weird, can't see it on the Boots website either.

Anyway here it is on Amazon

jalopy · 27/04/2018 08:37

I wear the Aveeno lotion (green top) on my face! No problems applying spf and make up afterwards. Brilliant product.

SukiTheDog · 27/04/2018 12:33

@jalopy....I’ve just started using the Aveeno cream with Colloidal Oats at night. It’s kind of “cushiony” on my skin and makes it feel “fat”. I like it. Am big on spf for the day, so use something different in the mornings.

Lush’s Dream cream is amazing too, love it for dry skin/eczema, works a treat.

spiderlight · 27/04/2018 14:00

Aveeno baby emollient cream with colloidal oats is amazing - one. My DS has a tiny patch of perioral dermatitis which has been recurring for months despite various creams from the doctor but a tiny bit of Aveeno clears it overnight and it's becoming smaller and flaring up much less frequently since I started using it. I also use it as a hand cream and it's better by far than anything else I've ever used. A student doctor sitting in on DS's last GP appointment suggested it to me.

blueskypink · 27/04/2018 14:07

My 21 year old ds has just developed eczema so I will definitely get him to try this.

spiderlight · 27/04/2018 14:51

Sorry - messed up my link! This one

blueskypink · 27/04/2018 17:42

DS has been home from uni and has been complaining about patches of eczema which apparently he normally keeps under control with his flat mate's cream. It's got quite bad while he's been home so I packed him off to the dr to get some prescription cream.

However, having read this thread I've just come back for Sainsbury's brandishing a tube of Aveena, to which he responded, "oh yeah, that's the cream [mate's name] uses - that'll clear it up"....Confused

Chicinwellies · 27/04/2018 18:02

I will honestly never use anything else. When it came out I thought eugh what 80s branding, but got a sample in Red magazine and that was that. There isn’t any better and dds 8 and 10 slap it in. The shower yoghurt too is lush.

Bejazzled · 27/04/2018 18:08

Shower yoghurt you say.......

jalopy · 27/04/2018 18:11

@SukiTheDog. I wear it at night as well!

I find it really nice to use in the mornings too. I include Vichy spf 50 Dry Touch on top, before applying my make up. They all combine really well.

blueskypink · 27/04/2018 18:36

So is there a separate face cream or do you all just use the daily moisturising lotion?
