I have £100 gift voucher, I can add a little bit of money to it but I really need an interview outfit for Friday morning.

I find their website quite confusing catalogue style but then I don’t normal shop online with next. I will visit our local large store but I’m clueless to what will make me stand out. I want to stick to my work black straight leg trousers, loafers, colour top and black blazer but I think I need to update.

I’m tall, size 10, very pale complexion and in my 40’s. I’d really apppreciate some ideas to pointmein the right direction.

The new role is a large dealership where I need to be available to each department, customers and suppliers and report directly to the director.

I’m so set in my boring work wear I’m scared I’ll get it horrendously wrong.

I think a statement necklace or smart scarf could be good?

Lucked · 18/04/2018 21:48

Off to have a look

Lucked · 18/04/2018 22:01

I don't like matching suits so a dress or trousers with a separate jacket looks nice.

I like this dress. could you wear lilac?
Red tweed -would have to order in
Would have to see in real life, again would need to order
smart and safe

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 18/04/2018 22:11

I never wear jewellery apart from my wedding ring so you may be right there.

I stay safe with black and white but aware I need to update. It’s a very new built dealership, very high tech.

Do you mean a car dealership? They usually have corporate wear. They’ll give you a uniform suit when you start. Don’t spend too much money.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 18/04/2018 22:15

I like the whole red tweed naff naff outfit. But, I’m too old, aren’t I?

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 18/04/2018 22:21

Ms it’s a support to the Director role/HR/EA no uniform supplied if offered.

I just want to make the right impression in a new build state of art dealership and build up from there.

I think I’m dressing too safe for my age going by the above links. If I get the role I can then look at coast, phase 8 - probably the wrong avenue but I have no idea.

If you want a new outfit that's fine or do you feel you should get one?
With interviews I try to stick with something I've worn before. If your boring work wear is reasonably formal you could go with that and maybe a bright scarf. Have a look at the weather forecast - if it will be warm them maybe a necklace instead.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 18/04/2018 22:39

I would like something new, it’s a new path and challenge for me and I think I need something new to he,p me feel confident and then I can add to it if I get the job.

I really am a boring black trousers, top and blazer, also black 42yr old. I’m lost.

To add, I have no boobs and hate my legs to add to the tall size 10. I don’t do false nails and would prefer no heels as I’m Scared of slipping on the show room shining floor.

I've recently been to a number of job interviews - including one at a dealership - and for each one I wore black trousers (fairly old ones at that) and a nice shirt or blouse. I don't have a suit jacket so wore my trench coat and removed this as soon as I got into the interview room. I always wear heels though as everything just hangs better on me with them on. Don't think they even need to be that high (mine aren't) but they do make a difference. I have just bought some ankle grazer navy trousers and they look great with a heel. I'd happily wear them for an interview. Hope you can find something tomorrow and good luck for the interview!

Shadow666 · 18/04/2018 23:10

I’m sure you’ll find some workwear easily enough in Next. I actually don’t mind their work stuff. Do you have shoes already or do you need to buy those too?

Petalflowers · 18/04/2018 23:12

As long as you are neat and smart, you should be fine.

Our local large nexr has workwear dresses. Would one of those be suitable?

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 19/04/2018 09:54

I do have shoes although my favourites are irregular choice, gold ones.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/04/2018 09:57

Don't wear those shoes to an interview! Shock

BrazzleDazzleDay · 19/04/2018 10:01

I would not wear those shoes to an interview.

IamAporcupine · 19/04/2018 10:08

I know this is not the standard interview look, but is the type of thing I would wear

I also prefer long jackets instead of blazers
www.next.co.uk/g2246s10

and I really like this dress

can I see your Irregular shape shoes? Wink

IamAporcupine · 19/04/2018 10:11

choice not shape! Grin

I love them

FunderAnna · 19/04/2018 10:12

I would be a bit concerned that you are putting so much energy into the idea 'new job = new look', that you aren't thinking about the interview itself!

My advice would be
a) to prepare thoroughly in terms of likely questions
b) as it's likely to be a warm day to wear clothing in which you'll look appropriately smart, but not as if you are overheating.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/04/2018 10:18

I would be a bit concerned that you are putting so much energy into the idea 'new job = new look', that you aren't thinking about the interview itself!

How on earth have you extrapolated that out of the OP's question Anna?

MerryDeath · 19/04/2018 10:21

no idea but gid i hate the next website

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 19/04/2018 10:34

Iam I’ve linked the shoes just above your links. I like the dress but I get a bit sweaty when anxious so it might be a bit too warm for me. Love the trousers, I always wear skinny black ones.

Anna thanks for the advice, I’m being made redundant but offered to interview for a new role in a new dealership for the same company. I have years of experience and they are going to be lucky to have me on board if they make the right choice. I’m just using the chance to update my look. New challenge, new me!

That’s my mantra whilst trying to go through this, redundancy sucks!
