Estée Lauder double wear

So I've been to both Debenhams and house of Fraser to be told they can't provide a sample. This has happened a few times so I contacted Estée Lauder direct. They say they don't give them out but will refund a bottle of it's not suitable.
This is so annoying, they are £33 a bottle and I think maybe 2-3 'look' right but it's a gamble.

Is it worth the money? And also does anyone have fairish skin and what colour do you use? I'd prefer a warmer tone than a pink as think i look washed out.
Thanks

Never had an issue getting a DW sample, always from my local Boots. Have been using it for years - started with Fresco, went down to Pale Almond and am now much happier using Desert Beige although I'll probably go back up to Pale Almond in summer. I have used other foundations, but I always end up coming back to DW! I'm lucky that I get my DW from a "Cosmetics Store" in an outlet centre, so it knocks at least £10 off the price in Boots, but it's hit and miss as to whether they have the shade you need. I would go back and ask for a sample again - maybe take a little pot with you so they can put some foundation in it for you to try? I've done this before, and although I got funny looks, no-one's refused me (unless it's Superdrug, they won't give you any kind of foundation sample!)

noshit · 08/03/2018 19:05

Try EL in Boots. I got a sample of DW
In a tiny bottle. Mind you, they were out of stock of the shade I was after so they did a sample for me. Worth checking out.

rubybleu · 08/03/2018 19:18

Yes EL in Boots gave me one without even asking! They pulled out a massive squeezy bottle of foundation and squeezed some into a tiny sample pot, which lasted me over 7 days.

Elend · 08/03/2018 19:18

OP sorry to detail, but I use DWL in 0.5 and it's still too dark for me. I can just about get away with it, but I only use it because nothing else lasts as well on my face. Is the lightest DW lighter than 0.5 does anyone know? I'm miles away from a stockist

GetOffTheTableMabel · 08/03/2018 19:24

Have you tried taking your own little pot with you for them to decant the sample into? I have found this often helps and failing that, I have bought the foundation on the condition that they also fill my little pot with the same colour that I’m buying, so that I can return the foundation unopened, if I find the colour is a poor match. This shows that you’re not just chasing a freebie, you are just keen not to make a pricey mistake.

peachypips · 08/03/2018 20:06

I use Double Wear. It's the best long lasting foundation out there in my opinion. Well worth the price tag.

I am very cool/neutral tones and palish, and I wear Ecru.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 08/03/2018 20:41

I use DW and I am very fair (porcelain) and use Shell. A couple of years ago they discontinued this colour but there was an outcry from customers and they brought it back.

They do usually give samples of the foundations in small pot. I am wondering if this not giving samples is a new thing in which case it is not very good customer service. I would want to try before I buy so understand how you feel. Maybe you could take your own pot in.

Oliack1417 · 08/03/2018 20:46

I use 'sand' when feeling wintery/bit paler and 'rattan' when I have a tan and in summer etc. It really is budge proof.

Laiste · 08/03/2018 21:19

I'm a pale almond. My bottle has lasted me nearly 7 months of daily wear! Just scraping around now with a cotton bud to get the dregs, but i need to get my arse back to the shops and buy a new bottle. I love it. Easy to out on, stays for hours, easy to wipe off.

I was given a sample bottle after a machine test thing. Debenhams Banbury.

EraArils · 08/03/2018 21:19

I seem to be more pale than everyone else here, I wear 1N1 Ivory Nude in summer and Porcelain 1N0 in winter. I can't wear the DW light as its either too dark or too warm.

I am so cool toned that I'm nearly blue.

WeeM · 08/03/2018 21:27

Boots and debs have always given me little sample bottles no problem so I wouldn’t be too chuffed if they said no. I’m also really pale and use she’ll-lightest they do. I love it, couldn’t live without it!

Thebluedog · 08/03/2018 21:30

Yes I’ve used it for a while now, I think my colour is stone.

I’ve always found with Estee Lauder, that if I’m not happy, I simply take it back and they refund me

ragmayo · 08/03/2018 21:31

Boots will do samples

applecharlotte · 08/03/2018 21:32

I use Sand it’s the best foundation I’ve ever used. Worth every penny and lasts for ages. I’ve also got sensitive, dry skin and as long as i moisturise it’s perfect coverage.

moralminority · 09/03/2018 07:36

I love double wear and wore bone (I think) but it stared feeling a bit heavy (I've got rosacea) so I switched to DW light and wear 0.5. I got colour matched in boots to cool vanilla.

Blueberryblueberry · 09/03/2018 07:49

I wear DW desert beige, also quite fair. I have dw light 1 for when I want lighter coverage/on holiday etc. Find them great

confusion39 · 09/03/2018 08:14

Thank you fosterdog for that voucher.

I'm frustrated reading the replies as have seriously tried for ages. I don't live near any large dept stores so am cross when I have the choice of 3 and get nowhere.
Last week I stood for ages waiting for someone to have their consultation..I then heard her say sorry we can't offer you a sample (but know now I can take back I guess if I knew what I was and wasn't happy) and so I waited and off she went on lunch for an hour (which is fine as everyone's allowed lunch!!) but I clearly time it badly too!
I'll try again with said voucher or try eBay!
Thanks x

I got given two sample bottles at boots knit last weekend

Doobigetta · 09/03/2018 10:49

Does anyone understand how the colours work? I was matched to 2C2 Pale Almond, but I find it's a bit too dark/orange. Should I try 2C1 Pure Beige, or 1C2 Petal? I know I should get a sample, but I'm going on holiday on Monday so I was thinking I could just pick a bottle up in duty free.

Faintlinesquints · 09/03/2018 10:58

I buy Estée Lauder but I always get samples by them from Debenhams (even without a purchase) they're quite generous too I use them on holiday!
I'm allergic to the double wear (get lots of tiny red spots around my mouth and nose) but the double wear light is amazing, I use it every day. I use the colour sand and could send you some to try if you like? Although they really should be letting you try a sample, it's bad form that they don't.
They will always colour match you though and can apply some to you in store.

Faintlinesquints · 09/03/2018 11:00

Also be wary of eBay, I know there are a lot of fakes on there so you can't be 100% sure what you're putting on your face.

confusion39 · 09/03/2018 11:09

Thanks for the help still
Faint yes think that's why I'm wary of eBay as like you said people could be putting anything in a bottle.
Not sure on the colours except I'm assuming c is cool and w is warm?!

OP posts:
Faintlinesquints · 09/03/2018 12:57

I think they are meant to be, but I have really yellow (cool) toned skin and the sand suits me perfectly for some odd reason, cool toned in every other foundation (mac nc25)

If you google the foundation shade and 'swatch' you will see people trying on different skin tones, and usually find someone comparing it to a brand/shade you wear already.

Chocolateyescakeyes · 09/03/2018 22:14

I also took an allergic reaction to Double Wear, got loads of red spots on my cheeks, never had a reaction to anything before. Also found the colours they matched me with were very draining, so not right at all for me.

DextroDependant · 10/03/2018 10:25

findation.com/

This is the website I mentioned that allows you to put your current shade/brand in and recommends your shade in other brands.
