I want to buy something with lovely colours and fabrics

Several items of my clothing are wearing out at once, particularly the clothes I wear to work. I am going to start a new job soon and would like some new bits and pieces.
I am a pear shaped 12-14, 5’7. A bit overweight, but I think I carry it well.Smile Early 40’s.

I really want a couple of items that make me feel ‘ooh’ - something textured, silky or velvety, or perhaps a really interesting dress or skirt. I don’t mind a slight ‘alternative’ feel. Just a bit tired of the ‘same old, same old’.

Such a difficult thing at the moment it seems. I am always looking for the same thing. I occasionally find a nice print, and even more occasionally a nice print in a nice fabris in main stream shops.

The only thing I have had recently that I really love for its fabric is a jackety thing I got from this company One Hundred Stars

Often vintage things too but impossible to find where I am. Much easier in London.

Wow that site is fantastic!!!!

margaritasbythesea · 28/02/2018 09:28

Occasionally Emily and Finn for nice prints too though I often don´t like their styles because I like sleeves.

margaritasbythesea · 28/02/2018 09:34

I´m gla dyou like it Rosie. I would buy about ten things if I had the money but I have limited need for floaty gowns!

RosieLig · 28/02/2018 09:43

Just ordered a kaftan for the summer and a scarf- I think the prices are pretty good. Wool scarves for less than £20 in the sake!

Love the maps stuff too. Thanks!

MaybeDoctor · 28/02/2018 13:36

Oh that one hundred stars site is gorgeous!

I would love to know of somewhere I could buy decent, decently priced velvet. Or anything else lovely for that matter.

I am glad you like the 100 stars site!

margaritasbythesea · 28/02/2018 14:13

Anthropolgie is nice to look at too but I can´t afford the prices myself.

I'm lusting after the Rixo dresses with multiple prints: www.rixo.co.uk/shop/rixo/

bingohandjob · 28/02/2018 22:16

If you've got £££ Tucker do some beautiful prints and styles....sigh, one day.... www.tuckernyc.com/collections/dresses

MaybeDoctor · 01/03/2018 12:57

Oh yes to Anthropologie!

I can just about afford that and will add them to my ebay searches.

What would you wear under one of the kimonos in the first link?

If you have time and patience look on eBay or high end charity shops. I get tonnes of fabulous jaeger items on eBay. I’ve also spent a day in London at some amazing high end charity shops and struck gold in every one.

margaritasbythesea · 01/03/2018 13:31

I wear a silk vest top with a scoop neck. You could wear a cami but I want to cover my bra straps. I am always, always looking for a matte silk vest top at a reasonable price but never find one.

this is the one I have though a different size cand colour. It´s not perfect but the best I have found. Often come up on ebay. Its indestructible aswell.

margaritasbythesea · 01/03/2018 13:36

BTW if you are a pear like me a recommend one of their short kimonos. Falls at the waist and gives more shape.

LilaBlue · 01/03/2018 13:55

Joe Brown are okay for day to day bits.

ChampagneSocialist1 · 01/03/2018 20:16

Try EAST for velvet clothing

MaybeDoctor · 01/03/2018 21:32

This was one of the first hits on an ebay search for Anthropologie:

divine

I have always had a fairly individual style, but I am getting a really strong urge to re-embrace something slightly luxe - I had a long phase of this in my late twenties when I was a primary teacher. The children always responded really positively to any interesting fabrics that I wore.

Yes to East - just found some great things on ebay.

Thanks Margaritas, the short one is the type that appeals. I think that the long one could be tricky to wear with any kind of coat!

Try Jigsaw? I’ve bought some beautiful silk dresses there over the years and they had velvet skirts in last time I was in.

MulberryPeony · 03/03/2018 14:24

Loving that one hundred stars website.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 03/03/2018 15:34

East have just gone into administration, sadly.

itstheyearzero · 03/03/2018 17:21
