Hi all ,
I'm a dress wearer , I own many and stoped buying trousers years ago because I find it so difficult to find ones that fit.

I want to buy a pair or two but am short , pear shaped and have a bit of a mum tum. Issues I have are leg length and waist being too loose.

Does anyone have any recommendations and can also tell me about new styles. The last I bought some it was skinny or straight only.

Thank you.

Stick to dresses! I am the same shape as you and, being stuck in a good size town for three hours, I made it my quest to find a pair of work trousers & a casual pair. I failed!
Most trousers this season seem to be tapered which makes my saddle bag thighs just look huge. Others were wide fit but never quite wide enough to get over my thighs without looking like PJs. The only good thing was that, being mainly 3/4 or 7/8 length, I didn't have to worry about them being too long as they were the perfect length for me.
I did buy two dresses & a skirt.

BlooBagoo · 22/02/2018 14:02

They're not the easiest to find now but I still love my bootcut jeans, I've found Peacocks and Dorothy Perkins best for me as everywhere else doesn't seem to cater for a big arse without the legs being twice as long as I need and either the waist being so huge I can fit my fists inside the waistband too, or them being so low rise I flash crack wherever I go.

Our DP is getting worse for not stocking the short leg ones though (or maybe everyone is short in my town) so I usually use the click and collect from their website instead, wouldn't use that if I didn't know how well they fit me though.

MagicFajita · 22/02/2018 14:04

Thanks for your response. I feared this may be the case!

I was secretly hoping someone would name a shop and style and convert me to loving trousers againSmile

Thanks also @Bloo, I've not worn bootcut jeans since the 90s , maybe I should give them a go again.

I keep on about Evans pear-fit jeans but they have changed my jean-wearing life. Obviously it will only work if you are a size 14 or above but they go in at the waist and don't do the weird bagging thing at the back.

MissWimpyDimple · 22/02/2018 14:10

For trousers, the Boden Chelsea style work well for my short legs and pear shape. Really nice thick material too.

In the same way - Boden cavendish girlfriend Jeans are good for a pear shape.

I'm not usually a fan of Boden, but the trousers really are good.

Butterfly1975 · 22/02/2018 14:32

I've just had exactly the same experience as headoutofthesand trying to find some black work trousers today!

Tried on several pairs of tapered trousers and they looked utterly terrible on me. I probably tried about 15 pairs of all different styles today, skinny, slim, capri you name it.... but admitted defeat! I am a short, curvy size 10 so I'm going to stick to dresses or my unfashionable bootcuts

sportyfool · 22/02/2018 14:50

What size and height are you? I never wear dresses as I always feel over dressed . Loads of jeans and trousers could work with a bit more info .

MagicFajita · 22/02/2018 15:15

I'll definitely have a look at Boden but tried on some Evans jeans previously and they were all too big.

I'm a 14 and just over 5 feet. I'm normally a 12 (gave birth a few months ago) but still had problems then.

I think problem with my dress habit it that they're just too easy to collect, my wardrobe consists of about 25 dresses , lots of tights and about a million cardigans. I wore a denim dress for genes for jeans day at work.

I'm 5 foot and size 10-12 hourglass .. I pretty much only wear jeans despite having a big bum 🤷‍♀️.. I like Topshop Jamie and surprisingly a lot of Tesco jeans are good ...
For trousers I would go for Biden Richmond or Marks had a pair they were recommending too . I'll see if I can get a pic .

sportyfool · 22/02/2018 15:49

MagicFajita · 22/02/2018 15:59

Thank you , I've looked at Jamie. I'm going to order a pair and see.

I buy petite and they are ankle length , if you want them full length go for 30 leg . I buy 30 waist as well but can get into 28 too . I just prefer them a bit looser .

MagicFajita · 22/02/2018 16:13

Can I ask a stupid question regarding measuring for jeans @sportfool?

Do you measure on your natural waist or where the jeans will sit? I ask because I ordered from asos based on my natural waist , I even added an inch. I couldn't get those jeans done up when they arrived in that size.

@sportyfool. Sorry am feeding a baby while typing.

I’m a size 16 hourglass and 5ft 4.
I wear jeans from Sainsbury’s and Baujken as well as Boden Richmond 7/8 trousers and chinos

sportyfool · 22/02/2018 16:15

I'm not exactly sure but Topshop say 10 is 28 , 12 is 30 and 14 is 32 so based on that I would order a 30 and 32 waist to try .

LoniceraJaponica · 22/02/2018 16:17

Being a pear myself I find using waist measurements a complete waste. I wish they used hip measurements.

headoutofthesand · 22/02/2018 16:28

Oooh, a previous poster is right. Tesco can be very good. I bought 3 pairs of summer trousers there a couple of years ago. Tried some on in there the other day and none of them fitted. It may be that I just tried the wrong styles the other day.
I've tried Boden Richmond before & they were no use. Am about to order the other Boden's.

Cinnamus · 22/02/2018 16:40

Hi,
I'm short and pear-shaped and find it hard to buy dresses!
I get all my jeans from Zara.
Please could you share links to dresses to give me an idea?
Thanks!

rightknockered · 22/02/2018 16:43

Depending on your budget, you could try Good American jeans. Selfridges stock them if you can get to one to try on.

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 22/02/2018 16:51

Yes, I am looking for dresses too!

For jeans I love h&m "shaper jeans", they suit a curvy butt, have stretch but still look like proper jeans instead of leggings. Skinny fit but not too skinny. They come in different lengths.

MagicFajita · 22/02/2018 17:03

I'm making a note of all of these. Have ordered some m and s jeans to begin my search. I looked at topshop but their jean sizing is a little confusing so I'll have to venture out to try them.

For dresses , Dorothy Perkins skater dresses are universally good. If they have any of the sweetheart neckline ones in right now then those are fantastic , really flattering.

Asos do a lovely range of ultimate tea dresses that have a high waist and skim the hips.

Also short and a bit pear shaped and I like Topshop petite jeans. Never have to roll them up!

Deux · 22/02/2018 17:11

I’ve always struggled with jeans and with the gaping at the back.

I’ve had a degree of success with Sainsbury’s, Uniqlo and Levi Demi curve (not sure if they still do them though).

One of the best fits I’ve had for trousers are from Finery. And for chinos, M&S, embarrassingly from their classic collection.
