High waisted bikini bottoms yey or nay?

In my 20s I'd happily bare all on the beach and float around in tiny bikini bottoms and nothing else. Since I had two whopping babies my poor tummy is a deflated little pouch and I'm way more self conscious about it that I ought to be.

We're off to the south of France in June and I'm looking at all these high waisted bikinis and wondering if they're an accessible way for me to get into a bikini on the beach, or if I'll look like a stumpy woman in a nappy? I'm a fairly fit size 10 but quite short and with a bit of wobble.

Has anyone seen high waisted bikinis on anyone in real life, or are they only worn by size 6 23 year olds on Love Island???

I find they cut across the belly too sharply. Whereas higher fold down bikini bottoms are more flattering, but still give coverage.

Also, you don't have to matchy-matchy. Plain briefs and a different top, or the other way around looks fine.

I've bought 2 pairs and I'm so not a size 6 23 year old, I think I'll never wear them but they are gorgeous and what I would wear if I had my dream body! It's stupid but I like looking at them! 😳

Jaunty · 19/02/2018 19:34

My sister always wears high waisted bikini bottoms and they look lovely on her. She's a slim size 10 but got a wobbly tummy and they give her confidence to wear a bikini.

MarkleAndSpencer · 19/02/2018 19:52

Thanks Diana those look nice but my tummy button is wrecked as well so not sure if they'd look stupid folded so high?

Buster we should love ourselves and wear them! I keep thinking I'll look back on this body when I'm 70 and want to slap myself for not appreciating the fact it's still functioning well and doing what I need it to! Where did you get your lovely bikinis from?

Jaunty your sister sounds great. Do you know where she gets hers from? They definitely don't look like adult nappies? I worry you need a certain degree of sass to pull it off...

I think it depends on your shape. I would look hideous in them, all my fattest bits contained like a sausage into a big pair of pants. No! (And I'm not really that tubby)

Blushlove · 19/02/2018 19:55

I think you should go for it!

I'm the same, I would love to wear a bikini again but a whopper has taken its toll on my belly! Please post links if you find some nice ones.

PlateOfBiscuits · 19/02/2018 20:05

I love mine. I have scars on my stomach and although I do still wear a normal bikini when just with my dp I feel much more comfortable in my high waisted one.

My friend has a black one similar to the one Cara posted and she looks stunning in it.

verite · 19/02/2018 20:06

I like them but only wear them when I’m at my slimmest. If I am at the upper end of my weight I think they look frumpy and unflattering. Oddly, I often think the skimpier bottoms are more flattering if cut nicely but I rarely have the confidence to wear them.

BusterGonad · 19/02/2018 21:00

Markle mine are from Pour Moi and yes, I should love myself as I am, but I've been on steroids for 3 months and I just feel bloated and really quite ugly, I'm off of them now (4 days so far) so I'm hoping to feel a bit more human again soon!
I've also got the normal size bottoms with cute ties at the sides if I chicken out! Grin

BusterGonad · 19/02/2018 21:01

I feel the same verite! Isn't it strange!

BusterGonad · 19/02/2018 21:04

Cute tie bottoms also! I've really pushed the boat out this year and have 3 new bikinis!!! Blush

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 19/02/2018 23:00

I think they make anyone look bigger than they actually are, I agree with pp skimpier bottoms are more flattering or go for a one piece.

MarkleAndSpencer · 20/02/2018 08:11

Skimpy bottoms are definitely out in afraid. It's not about my weight, it's sad and wrinkly loose skin around and below my belly button. Maybe I do need to get my head around one pieces and see if there's something I fancy!

I used to work as a scuba diving instructor and I've got the theory that it doesn't matter what shape swim wear you have - you just look like you. What does make a difference is confidence. I got high waisted 1950s esque bikini bottoms last year and they gave me such a lovely shape I felt ace and was happy to walk around in them. They didn't change my shape but they smoothed things out

DragonsAndCakes · 20/02/2018 08:14

Is a tankini a sort of compromise? I like mine.

Screamer1 · 20/02/2018 08:17

I think they'd look good judging from what you've said. Make sure the bikini top isn't too frumpy though.

Notagainmun · 20/02/2018 08:40

I am a short size 12 with a mum tum and I find the high waisted look awful on me. The mist flattering for me is mid way between Danni and belly button.

Notagainmun · 20/02/2018 08:41

Danni? Fanjo I mean

MagicFajita · 20/02/2018 08:47

I like them , after three kids they're really the only bikini bottom that suits me. I'm not big but my stomach is what it is.

For me , a bikini is better and more flattering than a two-piece because I'm short and pear shaped. I like that you can mix and match sizes.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 20/02/2018 08:56

I have some - they are ok but not as flattering as normal ones. However, after 3 babies and 2 CS I need bikini bottoms that sit at least a couple of inches above my scar or they just roll down into it. So bigger pants it is!

NotSoSprightly · 20/02/2018 08:58

I think they're horrible and unflattering on anyone!

Perfectnight · 20/02/2018 08:58

I have a tankini with little shorts which I love and it is so easy to wear. I don’t feel self conscious in it at all. Don’t know how fashionable they are as they are hard to find.

redpickle · 20/02/2018 09:04

I have 2 sets and I think they are really flattering. I'm a petite (short arse) size 10 but with saggy skin on my tummy and feel much better in them than in skimpies. I have plain black and a white with floral pattern, both with halter neck tops.

You won't know unless you try some on as it will depend of your shape.

allegretto · 20/02/2018 09:05

I think they only look good on very slim flat stomachs unfortunately!
