New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

peopnylover I've never bought Bobbies before so I'm no help to you I'm afraid.

AuldAlliance · 17/04/2018 16:39

I like the bobbies, too.

We seem to have skipped spring and gone straight to summer here: 24° today, forecast of 25° tomorrow and 26° on Thurs.
I haven't done my big winter packing away yet, or hauled out the summer gear to wash and iron. Good thing I have the new T-shirts Smile
Un-chic and un-parisienne as I am, I have pink lines on my ankles and calves from my socks and leggings after accompanying DS2s class on a 35km cycle ride today (prep for a 5-day cycle trip through the Luberon in May, 30-35km/day, camping en route - not bad for 8-9yr olds).

OP posts:
peonylover22 · 17/04/2018 17:23

Do you think the Bobbies would look okay on pale size 8 feet?! If I painted the toenails a nice colour? 😬

Floisme · 17/04/2018 17:39

Jeez where are you lot? I think it might have hit 14 or 15 degrees today. I'm going bare ankled tomorrow though so watch out.

I can't help with sandals I'm afraid as I hardly ever wear them - my feet burn and trust me, it hurts.

peonylover22 · 17/04/2018 18:55

I’m in London. Forecast to be 25C for the next few days. TWENTY FIVE! I actually have no idea what to wear when it’s warm - last summer I was on mat leave wearing anything machine washable that I could BF in and the year before I was in maternity clothes. So I haven’t worn normal summer clothes since 2015 Confused

whataboutbob · 17/04/2018 19:17

Hey Auld, I’m planning a 2 or 3 day hike in the Luberon in May. Just trying to finalise the route. I’ll be starting in Apt and sporting some sweat wicking ( lovely term) cragghopper trousers. Mmmm foxy.

AuldAlliance · 17/04/2018 19:19

Sounds nice, Bob.
It will be quite hot by then, if this carries on...
Pack a hat.

OCSockOrphanage · 17/04/2018 19:50

They start training for the Tour young then, Auld.

It's been vile here today, wet, windy and 12C, so I am still in jeans, boots and a cashmere sweater. But tomorrow.... Spring beckons, and I too may get my ankles out!

peonylover22 · 18/04/2018 10:44

Suns out and I have finally bought the Boden bikini. Ended up with a size 10 top and 14 bottoms 😬 - no doubt what body type I am 😂 Ideally there wouldn’t be that little tummy pouch, but I think that’s here to stay and I still feel good in it so thank you for all your help choosing it.

zippyswife · 18/04/2018 11:21

I’d love your pouch! You look fab.

ToElleWithIt · 18/04/2018 11:30

It looks lovely on you peony the stripes definitely do that balancing- out thing.

I ordered the Bobbies (so will return one or other of the sandals) and added these courts to the purchase. They're not quite as elegant as the lovely Danish ones botemp posted, but they're a good bit cheaper. They are to replace the nude pumps for wearing to work with navy things.

They're subject to a papal dispensation as they were on my official "things to buy in 2018 list". Also on that list: leather sandals, plain swimsuit, sun hat, chambray shirt.

Wearing my U Uniqlo dress today with an old jacket from H&M Conscious. I think the new Conscious Collection is out tomorrow. I like the look of this green dress, though the skirt in the same fabric is probably more wearable. There's also a pair of jacquard trousers, similar in aesthetic to the Dries I think? There's a Dries-esque printed shirt too.

Great pictures Elle, love the pumps on you .

Peony, the bikini is really beautiful and suits you perfectly; now you just need the beach/pool and sun to slink around looking chic.

Very casual Parisienne today, styled a la plage/en campagne, for summer weather (at last!) Boyfriend jeans, rolled to show the striped lining and some ankle, a fitted grey marl T, with nude-pink loafers. No make-up look. Can't do selfies. Sorry, you'll have to imagine it.

OCSockOrphanage · 18/04/2018 12:35

Envy, Elle, for the heels. Pretty feet too!

ToElleWithIt · 18/04/2018 13:22

Those are not my feet - I wish they were! Mine are considerably paler and vein- ier It's the stock photo. I also wouldn't put my feet on the coffee table though that one looks as though it has seen better days

The outfit sounds lovely OC. How's your son (La petite chausette?) getting on with the coat?

OCSockOrphanage · 18/04/2018 13:27

The coffee table is err... distressed? Looks like it belongs in the staffroom of some schools!

The coat went out to breakfast and the pub last week! I think it will get lots of love.

quirkychick · 18/04/2018 13:51

peony you look great Smile.

Definitely warmer here, today. Not sure how Parisian, but in new, indigo slim, cropped jeans, red leather trainers, bare ankles, white anthropologie top in slubby cotton with blue/red patterned cuffs and neckline, red lipstick and sunscreen (I burn very easily too). Oversized, purply sunglasses and a hat in the garden.

Loving the green dress and trousers, Elle.

peonylover22 · 18/04/2018 15:51

Quirky your outfit sounds lovely - I like the sound of the trainers in particular.
Elle, I really like all your pictures too. Those shoes are fab. But what I am really coveting is a skirt in that fabric. Have you had an advance preview of the new collection? How do I get involved? Always late to the party on these sorts of things and miss out on the best bits Envy

peonylover22 · 18/04/2018 15:54

PS thanks for all the sweet bikini complements. Must find an opportunity to wear it now!

botemp · 18/04/2018 20:21

Sock, yes, African men can be so well dressed. I don't know how PC it is, but I tend to consider them the last true dandies. There's quite a large community of them in Paris, I remember there was a good documentary on it ages ago. Think the title was vaguely Oscar Wilde inspired, will have to look it up.

peony, I'm not sure on the trouser lengths, as I'm rather short Blush but if it is an issue Max Mara sell their trousers unfinished and then hem to length upon purchase (for free and usually extra alterations as well) and they're always endlessly long. Love the colour on those ballerinas, btw, lovely with navy. And the bikini! It looks great on you and it balances you out really well. I can't remember the many destinations we agreed on for meeting up, but now we must add somewhere tropical, surely? I do remember the French Carribean quite fondly, may have had to do with being quite young at the time and having a decent croissant for the first time in years...

Elle Grin whilst I do agree that bag makes an excellent replacement for my face, I don't know how well the crazy cat lady vibe goes with the rest of my wardrobe Wink So glad to hear you kept the Dries trousers, I saw something very similar at H&M the other day, will post it in a bit as it's on my phone.

I'm not usually a fan of the H&M conscious collection as it's quite expensive and a lot is recycled polyester but I do like the look of a lot of it and I've spotted some silk. If I have the energy I'll go have a peruse in store tomorrow (or is it the day after?), I have a 25% off offer through their member program so that would go a long way on that collection. Great find on the shoes, L'Exception has a nice selection as well at the moment, they sell the Bobbies too (shipping is v. reasonable too, 5EUR IIRC).

I might get some more TKees which are really slim leather flip-flops, despite looking terrible for your feet I really like them and can walk endlessly on them. NAP have them in a rich chocolate colour (pic 1), I might get those as they're very affordable and the ones I have, still haven't died after years of wear. I quite like mixing brown with black to take the severity out of it.

Lovely pieces, Auld. I've actually been spotting quite a lot of natural fibres in the shops, surprisingly. Lots of linen, especially.

Swimming, love the trousers, and very versatile too, I imagine. I ordered a dress from that brand once, unfortunately, didn't do much for me but now I'm eyeing up this top (pic 2). Sizing was generous though IIRC.

It's warm here too, 24 today, will be even warmer tomorrow. But it's schizophrenic weather as the morning and evening are still kind of cold. As a result, I've been walking around like a Sainsbury baguette Parisian cliche as my trans-seasonal wardrobe seems to be very stripey top oriented. I'm on day 3 Shock thought I was phoning it in a bit, stripey top, denim skirt, Danse Lente bag, Jensen boots, slight Parisian nod with ankle socks on display like a sliver of black (stops my legs looking unfortunately chopped off) but a French man insisted on stopping me to tell me I looked irrésistible and then refused to believe I was a local. Apparently, he'd never seen a Dutch woman look like me Confused

In other news, I bought a bag from Mango's Committed Collection (pic 3) which also has some nice pieces in it. It's very reminiscent a blatant copy of a Building Block bag I had my eyes on some time back but was really hard to get hold of. It's veg tan leather and a lot pricier by Mango standards but still a great bargain if it's lovely in RL. Will report back when it arrives, hoping it'll make a good non-work summer bag.

Apols if I missed out anyone, all the outfits sound lovely.

bo I’d take the compliment myself! I’m sure you looked fab. At least your octogenarian Italian deli owner didn’t insist on guessing your age at the weekend! Wtf people. No one wants you to guess their age EVER. It never ends well...

Yes sizing is super generous although they’ve started doing a broader range, used to be 1 or 2. I love that top and have been eyeing it up too but I think with some lines there’s one thing that works for you and you need to take it and be thankful! The trousers are that piece for me. So excited I get to wear them in this weather.

Swimminguphill · 18/04/2018 21:30

Oh and love the bikini peony, looks really nice on you.

ToElleWithIt · 20/04/2018 08:17

peonylover the collection is here www2.hm.com/en_gb/free-form-campaigns/22z-conscious-exclusive-2018.html#collection Some of the nicer bits are sold out unfortunately.

botemp I always loved the Guinness ad featuring Les "Sapeurs".

I see asos is doing a Made in Kenya Series too.

The bag is very elegant. I hadn't heard of the committed collections. There's a blazer with a fab sleeve detail that's very tempting. shop.mango.com/gb/women/jackets-blazers/linen-blazer-style-jacket_21077708.html?c=06&n=1&s=committed_she

I'm loving the sunnier weather and I love hearing about everyone's outfits. Although it does feel a bit like we skipped spring. Navy cropped trousers today with a navy linen tee, grey sweatshirt for the air con and gold sandals.

Miu miu ballet pumps got a long-overdue outing yesterday.

quirkychick · 20/04/2018 11:14

Elle your outfit sounds lovely and chic. Love Les "Sapeurs"!

It was 26°C yesterday, so everyone was doing the very British thing of going mad in the heat. Great for people and outfit watching. It really strikes me how important fit is, particularly in the summer without lots of layers. I saw a very chic woman in black short skirt, black cami with tan gladiators and satchel bag, yesterday.

Yesterday's outfit was grey t-shirt (old H&M concious), indigo bootcut/flares, grey sandals, silver bangles, green tassel earrings and blue aviators. Grey, straw hat in the sun. Today, navy t-shirt, grey leopard print loose trousers (jogger/harems), navy birkies, blue aviators and pale blue heavy jersey jacket in the colder morning.

Swimminguphill · 20/04/2018 12:31

Love the outfit descriptions! I am in a grey/blue boxy short sleeved silk shirt, black viscose trousers (neither tight nor loose) and silver Hudson sandals. Sunnies obvs and lots of silver bracelets. I feel smart and cool for meetings in central London

Lisette40 · 20/04/2018 12:34

I can report that the Alois Guinut book on Parisian dressing is excellent. Very detailed, lots of advice.
