New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

Thanks for the comforting words, Parisiennes. DS is definitely an HSP, and the man wearing the red jacket that Bo snapped probably is too!

Bo's dress is perfectly improper! No, the Pope probably would not approve, although he would probably requisition Elle's brocade trousers for ceremonial garb. Loving both of those items, and the tum shouldn't be noticeable once you've got the tag off. The front view is magnificent.

Reckon Claudia must be lurking here; the Raey coat was instantly familiar. Do you think other fashion journalists and stylists are among us, looking at what we're lusting over? For many years, it seems that when I've wanted specific items to answer a mood, they seem to arrive in the High Street quite a lot later.

On the moth issue, we have a (large, fugly) chest made from camphorwood that lives in a spare room as a place for visitors to place luggage. Anything that moths would like is washed and goes there for a holiday, alongside wool blankets that are not in use. The coat now needs its own bag and cedar rings, blocks to deter them; it would be a cruel blow if the moths were to damage it after all the angst.

OCSockOrphanage · 09/04/2018 08:57

The jeans look great on you, Elle; nice silhouette, perfect fit and the white sole/shoe takes it into spring-like weather!

Floisme · 09/04/2018 09:35

Oh Sock that must be hard - is Wine any help at 9.30 am? My son and husband (his father) have a great relationship but very occasionally they turn on each other (verbally) like a pair of silverback gorillas tussling for the top spot. It makes me realise we're not nearly as evolved as we think we are.

I hope things calm down. And yes your son is very handsome as well as having great taste, creativity and conflict resolution skills too! You must be very proud.

And Elle you've now got me wondering whether I could carry off brocade trousers.... the answer is probably no (in a word: thighs) but it would be fun trying.

Floisme · 09/04/2018 10:22

Ah bo that dress! Just make sure you don't save it. The trousers are also cool - and thanks for the Ekyog tip - but you know you've got the rest of your life for wearing them Wink

OCSockOrphanage · 09/04/2018 12:45

Even for me, 9.30 am is a little early for Wine Flo. Thank you for your kind words; we are smoothed out again here, so will stick to coffee for a while, at least until the contacts are out. Practising with them again after several months, while awaiting new glasses. The current pair has worn and is hurting the bridge of my nose, causing a sore patch.

Bloomed · 09/04/2018 16:49

Thank you for the trouser advice Bo. That explains why I keep on ordering and returning cigarette trousers. The ones you linked are gorgeous. I wonder if I should try to get some tailored for the right fit.
I have some distressed pale denim which might work with the silk jacket but a wafty black maxi might also work.
Hope your son wears his coat proudly Sock. I would have swooned if he were a classmate at my school!

botemp · 10/04/2018 13:09

Fear not Flo, as soon as the temps go over 26° I'll be out and about being properly improper Grin

Peony, they're a bit pricey but Chloe Stora does make a good tailored trouser. This woollen one could possibly be good for your figure as it has the little v-snip in the back of the waist which should help sit them well on a high sitting bum as it will have the leeway to cup it rather than cutting in horizontally.

Ah, I know what you mean with that fingerspitzengefühl, Sock. It's a blessing and a curse all at once, but basically I'm always looking for things well before they're on sale and by the time they are available I've usually lost interest. At the moment I'm really into African oil cloth textiles, see attached. These pics are from a small Dutch brand, Afriek, but unfortunately Dutch brands are far too big for me.

So the red trousers arrived in the smallest size yesterday, unfortunately still a good 2 inches too big. I can wear them on the top of my hip bones which makes them slightly more slouchy and less formal which sort of works. I need to get the length taken in regardless so will see what the tailor suggests on taking them in.

Oh, and an aside, I was reading about doing a lanolin rinse for your woollens. Anyone ever done this? You basically soak it in a 15% lanolin solution for 3-4hrs after washing and then rinse it out. It helps restore and protect the fibres, but I'm left wondering if it's really worth the extra effort.

ToElleWithIt · 10/04/2018 14:22

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try on the trousers again tonight for a final decision. I feel I need to LOVE them or I won't put them on often enough to justify them.

Lovely prints botemp I like the Kyoto one. No matches code for me- must be a targeted promotion.

I haven't done a specific lanolin solution, but I have used Eucalan for washing woolens by hand. You leave the woolens soaking or give a gentle swirl (it contains lanolin) and you don't rinse. Results have been good and it smells lovely, but I'm not sure it would get very grubby things properly clean.

OCSockOrphanage · 10/04/2018 17:21

Glad you got my drift, Bo; but it probably saves me from the poor house. African fabrics are so wildly wonderful; spotted a man (mid40s) on an escalator in one of the Dubai malls one day wearing the most amazing shocking pink suit, formal African in style, with matching hat, and I didn't have a camera/phone to hand. His bearing was regal. It was a masterclass in style.

peonylover22 · 10/04/2018 22:23

What did you decide re the trousers Elle? I like those trousers Bo, any ideas what they are like length-wise? Too many too short trousers are the other reason I don’t own any trousers..
I went into Anthropologie this evening on my scarf quest. No scarves. Not a single one. But many many kimonos and lots of Blair Waldorf headbands. Bizarre...

ToElleWithIt · 12/04/2018 08:48

I decided to keep them. I think that picture is on the unflattering side and I think that the side angle is actually okay in real life. As botemp points out it's probably not an angle people see a lot anyway.

peonylover those headbands are everywhere, but I haven't seen anyone actually wearing one.

I saw this photo and thought it's look I should be able to manage a version of with my military jacket.

I also came across this handbag which I think has your name all over it botemp. No need to spend time editing your pictures, simply bring this bag with you on shopping expeditions and hold it over your face....

Grin Elle at the bag.

peony sorry about Anthropologie, I know I've got cotton stoles/scarves from them before, but hadn't checked recently. I think I'll pass on the headbands too.

peonylover22 · 13/04/2018 17:31

Went to pick up my click and collect - often a false economy Blush - navy suede courts this lunchtime (nice, necessary but not exciting) and happened upon these ballet pumps. I really like them and think they’ll go nicely with my proliferation of navy clothes Smile

They look like a good buy, Peony.

Not sure anyone is very interested, but I finally tried making the hair mask today: 2tbsp powdered green clay, 1 tbsp coconut oil, 2 tbsp camomile infusion. ( x2 for longer hair)
Slap on, massage in well, shampoo off.
My hair is very dry, and feels much healthier but not weighed down. And the clay dissolved fine, so no lumps or clumps left, as far as I can tell. All good.

In my quest for basics in natural fibres, I ordered
this (sorry for link to French website...) in blue and in white. Nice weight, hang well, definite keepers. White one needs a cami/vest underneath.

And
this in white.
Good basic, nice under a blazer/jacket, can't really argue with the price...

Hair masque sounds great Auld, and I doubt the T shirts will owe you a sou by the end of the summer!

quirkychick · 14/04/2018 08:37

Great t-shirts Auld, good prices too. The hair mask sounds great, here's to lovely, shiny hair!

Nice shoes, peony, will look lovely with navy. I wear loads of navy too (if it's good enough for Sofia Coppola... apparently her favourite colour). Have you tried Etsy for cotton stoles?

Swimminguphill · 16/04/2018 23:01

Hello again parisiennes! I had drifted over to a flat sandal thread (no dice) but wanted to come back and let you know about a total bargain pair of summer trousers I snagged from Farfetch. They are Cecilie Copenhagen and I got them for £39 + £10 postage (which is pretty eyewatering for postage but even at that price about a 75% discount on full price). I got them and love them. They have a stretchy waistband which means that even though size 1 is all that is left it would fit a large 8 - 12 easily. I have actually bought a back up pair as the black thread work looks like it would snag easily and I love them so much I'd cry if I ruined them and didn't have another pair. Anyway, here they are. They also come in purple and black. I wore them with a black v neck t shirt and some sunglasses at the weekend and felt like a rock star.

ToElleWithIt · 17/04/2018 09:18

They look really cool and comfy - would be nice for travelling too.

You'll get loads of wear out of those t-shirts Auld. Linen will be lovely in summer.

Nice colour Peony - ochre and navy together are lovely.

Speaking of flat sandals I've been on the casual look out for a pair for holidays. I'll be doing lots of walking so comfort is key they need to have some kind of strap to hold them in place. I saw gold ones from Sezane that I liked - sold out, but I've ordered the nude ones, which may be a mistake. I also likes these Bobbies ones - again sold out in the gold, but the tan might be a good option.

I do like the Sezane ones but I just balked at the cost - please report back if they feel like they're worth it?

peonylover22 · 17/04/2018 11:24

I need flat sandals too! Those gold Sezane ones would have been perfect Sad Have been eyeing these ones up for a while but put off by price and coral suede not as versatile as gold...

Desigual is my spiritual home. I have a few pieces and love them all.

I'd like to join in 😀

peonylover22 · 17/04/2018 11:30

Breaking news... I may have found my sandals!!! @ToElleWithIt what is the sizing like on Bobbies? If I am a definite 8, would a 42 be the right size? 🤞🏻

DragonNoodleCake · 17/04/2018 11:37

I need a long evening dress that will go with either a black or white lace mask (already got masks) - I'm size 16 (sometimes 18 Confused in small fit stuff) and 5'5'' blond with pale skin. I need it for a week on Saturday. I don't love my upper arms and tummy, but I do have an hourglass so semi fitted is good and with 34Gs wearing a bra is a must.

Have you seen anything?? Can you very stylish ladies help??

OCSockOrphanage · 17/04/2018 11:51

Bonjour mesdames! Sandals I bought a couple of years ago are these are extremely comfortable in warm weather, including walking on rough cobbled streets, and go with most things. Sadly, a search has not turned up anything similar this year. I think it is an Italian company. I like the Bobbies.
