you've got a totally flat tum and skinny legs? I'm short, plump-ish and big breasted but I would so like to be able to wear one! I do have a flatt-ish tum though (my only vague asset) but am thinking people would just keep asking when the baby was due if I wore one? Who are they actually meant for?

Nikki76 · 26/04/2007 20:43

I wear them but only when DS is with me so him in the buggy is my excuse for being fat!!

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 20:46

I have not seen many looking really nice on people who aren't stick thin

depends on what style though, have you seen one you particularly like?

IME they tend to balloon a bit around your tummy anyway, so if you have a flat stomach you would maybe be better off wearing something else to flatter it!

nailpolish · 26/04/2007 20:48

dont hide your flattish tum under a smock

esp if you have big tits

i think smocks are nice on smallish tits - or you look pg

unfortunately

MrsBadger · 26/04/2007 20:48

you will look pg, thirtysomething
sorry
wear something that flatters your waist and stomach rather than hiding it under vast swathes of fabric.

F&Z is v slender and is the only person over 20 I can think of who'd get away with one.

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 20:50

Ooh MrsB

have gone up a size does that change your advice?

nailpolish · 26/04/2007 20:51

you could go halfway and get an empire top and wear with skinny jeans - that would be nice with a flattish tum

topshop have hundreds

beansprout · 26/04/2007 20:52

I've just found out I am pregnant, so on the basis of this advice, could you all give me your tops please?!

nailpolish · 26/04/2007 20:53

OHHHHHHH beansprout congratulations

MrsBadger · 26/04/2007 20:53

not unless you have suddenly become an hourglass
if same wonderfully gamine proportions it all still applies.

Nikki76 · 26/04/2007 20:53

Oooh congrats Beansprout! You can stop holding the tum in now and enjoy 9mths of no diet worries!!

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 20:54

beansprout Congrats

they look fab on pregnant women I think, both the above nork gathered ones and the below nork tie ones

beansprout · 26/04/2007 20:54

Thankyouverymuch!

Nikki76 · 26/04/2007 20:54

Not that I meant to imply you have to hold your tummy in by the way - just meant all us women seem to have tummy issues....

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 20:55

MrsB you are making me very

MrsBadger · 26/04/2007 20:56

I am still suffering guilt from the time I annoucned to the world you had a 'freakishly small arse'

beansprout · 26/04/2007 20:56

Nikki - but I do have to hold my tummy in! Just not sure that I am supposed to have a bump the moment the bfp appears!

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 20:56

Have just realised I should have announced my change of size and sent updated photos to you some time ago

can't expect to get the same fab personalised advice otherwise

in future expect daily email "have plucked eyebrows and put on one ounce. pls advise"

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 20:57

LOLOL at arse

I had just about forgotten that as well

imaginaryfriend · 26/04/2007 20:59

I wear quite a lot of smock tops although not the super gathered ones which do make me wonder if people think I'm concealing an early pregnancy! I'm very thin and virtually breastless though so they actually make me look less lanky which means, I guess, they do tend to add some weight.

loobylooby · 26/04/2007 21:01

Bought one from Jigsaw last year - thought it was great but Dp took one look and said "are you trying to tell me something?" - went straight back! I am a size 12 so perhaps they really are only for the stick thin.

thirtysomething · 26/04/2007 21:36

thanks girls - you have convinced me to find a different style! And congrats Beansprout!

OP posts:
Nikki76 · 26/04/2007 21:38

Beansprout - is it your 2nd or 3rd preg? If so, a bump at an early stage can be explained away with 'oh my muscles were already slack from the first one'....

If its your first - blame it on preg bloating! I had terrible bloat and was in maternity trousers by 10weeks!! Sooooo much more comfy!!

beansprout · 26/04/2007 21:39

2nd, but I have been asked if I was preg in the last few months, when I wasn't

Nikki76 · 26/04/2007 21:40

Well if you are going to be asked anyway - smock away m'dear!! Espec now you can say oh yes I am pregs!

I want another one!!!

beansprout · 26/04/2007 21:41

Will keep my fingers crossed for you!
