Is this dress terribly dated?

I’ve a gala dinner to go to with work. I’m insignificant in that I’ll just “be there” but don’t want to look like shit. Nor can I afford anything new. I bought two new (well second hand) eBay frocks which don’t fit or suit so I’m loathe to buy anything else online. I can go to to max tomorrow but that’s it. Time run out. I got this at Coast 12 years ago. Silk. Pleated bit at front and satiny silk straps and longer tie. Be honest. Will it look awful and if not, what shoes please? Thanks very much in advance - honestly. I need your help!

The length is wrong on the first one; it looked as though it would be full length on the hanger.

Sheer black tights and heels, with drop earrings, glossy hair and a confident smile... you’ll look fab in the lace dress!

RoseWhiteTips · 17/01/2018 23:03

You look great! Lace dress is perfect.

Polkadot1974 · 17/01/2018 23:08

Thanks. I can see me ducking out but at least if I have your backing for that dress it’s an option

You don't look at all squishy in the lace dress.

sparklefarts · 18/01/2018 07:56

New dress is MUCH better xx

MrsNacho · 18/01/2018 09:06

Don't duck out, the lace dress is lovely and you look lovely in it. Get a pair of heels on and do your make up, you will be good to go.

StinkPickle · 18/01/2018 09:11

I think you look lovely in the lace one. Really - it’s very nice and you’ll have a great evening.

The black and white one can go in the bin Smile

Scarydinosaurs · 18/01/2018 09:17

Don’t be so hard on yourself!

You have great legs, good arms and a clear waist/hip curve.

I really love the black lace- perfect for petite height. The midi length of the older one isn’t a good shape for shorter women.

Fozzleyplum · 18/01/2018 09:25

The lace one looks good; I think you need sheer black tights and black shoes. The other one looks very tired, is not flattering and needs to go!

Partypopper123 · 18/01/2018 19:27

Lace one is much more current, and will look rear with black opaques.
I think the other one looked better on the hanger (sorry OP), I think it's had its day and should be thrown out.

Partypopper123 · 18/01/2018 19:28

Look great - not rear!

neveradullmoment99 · 18/01/2018 19:32

black heels and black tights and your done :)

neveradullmoment99 · 18/01/2018 19:32

with the lace dress I mean!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 18/01/2018 19:36

Lace dress. Black plaques. Red, metallic or black shoes. Nice earnings.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 18/01/2018 19:36

Leopard heels?

Hellywelly10 · 18/01/2018 19:39

Deffo second one. You can read wear it 100 times to different evenine dos. I wore a similar one to a black tie do in November with tights. It's freezing and I'm not in the cast of Towie.

Hellywelly10 · 18/01/2018 19:39

Freezing

Polkadot1974 · 18/01/2018 19:45

Go with the lace dress - it's lovely.

And stop doing yourself down. Remember, you hear all that negative crap and it's just not true. You'll look lovely. I'm sure of that.

Starryskiesinthesky · 18/01/2018 21:19

You look lovely in the lace one and will look even better with tights and heels. Enjoy!

Peaceandl0ve · 18/01/2018 21:24

I though the lace one looked fab! A pair of heels and a simple necklace and you are good to go! Dont be so hard on yourself....!

myusernamewastaken · 18/01/2018 21:37

Lace one with black opaque tights and black heels...

halfwitpicker · 18/01/2018 21:39

Adding to the general consensus of black lace.

Polkadot1974 · 18/01/2018 22:38

Thanks. Lace it is with hopefully new killer heels

So I just realised I have given my heels away to charity after deciding last time I wore them they were a pain (in a fit of pique after falling off them )
I’m hoping in the 1 hour I have free tomorrow that I can find another pair.
Gah! I have nude heels but these were a no weren’t they? Room service seems VERY appealing right now
I need the ultimate wear to any dress heel. If not for tomorrow then for the future. Advice?
