Just that really. How old are you and where do you shop?

i I'm surprised so many of you say fat face - what do you all buy from there? I've never had any luck there.

I've had various things over the years - t-shirts, skirts, dresses, usually either in the same or second-hand though. I've never worn their jeans, although they look nice, because I can get ones I like as much for less. They also do nice accessories like scarves and silver jewellery, and some beautiful (but rather expensive) shoes and boots. A word of warning though - I used to by my kids sweatshirts from their sales when they were younger, and those tended not to be colour-fast for the first few washings, so it's worth taking care what you wash any deeper coloured items with for a while.

I dream of owning some of their lovely nightwear, but I just can't justify spending that much on something nobody will even see (except DH and he's not really a fan of cosy pyjamas anyway).

The first line should have been in bold Blush

I'm 47 and live in a medium sized market town and have a good job so plenty of disposable cash. The high street options aren't great, anything I buy from M&S needs to be ordered from the website and picked up in store because our store is rubbish. We have a small department store which has recently been refurbished which is OK but there's such limited stock in comparison to online. There are a few independents including a vintage dress agency but I have to confess I never go into them. Maybe that should be my resolution this year? So, looking at my shopping list from last year 80% was bought online. That suits me though, I very much shop by using search engines to eliminate by fabric/size/colour.

Anyway, in the last year I've bought from: COS, M&S, Next, Boden, Uniqlo, Jigsaw, ASOS, La Redoute (quality variable though, lots of returns), Hush, Primark, Figleaves, Biba, GAP, ISSA, Precis, Adidas, Sainsbury's, Red Bubble, Rogue Matilda, Moda en Pelle, LKBennett, Fitflop, Zatchels, and Saltwater. I bought a lot of shoes last year! My current favourites are COS.

You have a vintage dress agency and you never go in it? Shock

rogue8 · 07/01/2018 12:59

46 - I tend to try to wait for the sales to buy my clothes. So, in the last month, I have bought :

Toast - 2 x wool jumpers
French Connection - Wool Jumper
Mint Velvet - 2 layer top
Phase Eight - Top
Fat Face - Linen trousers (for the summer)
Fat Face - Leather cross body bag
Coach - Stone handbag for the summer (should be the MN 2018 bag!)

Scabetty · 07/01/2018 13:13

I am 52 and buy at Cos, Toast, Mango, Asos, Uniqlo, Boden, Poetry, Jigsaw, Whistles, M&S, Debenhams, All Saints, Hush. I usef to like Atterley Road before it rebranded and became quite expensive imo.

FatFace can be hit and miss as some of it can be frumpy but on the other hand some of my favourite things are from there:

Tan leather ankle boots
Grey suede Chelsea boots
Petrol blue gilet
Supersoft slightly oversized beachy blue hoody sweatshirt which I absolutely adore ❤
Jeggings (have in 4 colours)
Pyjama bottoms - pricey but lovely
Cotton vest tops
Breton tops/t-shirts
Grandad tops
Scarves
Socks
Silver star necklace and earrings

I like the materials they use, they're usually really soft and all my stuff has washed and worn well.

CountFosco · 07/01/2018 18:42

You have a vintage dress agency and you never go in it?

Hangs head in shame. I am truly terrible at buying second hand clothing, I never find anything, even when I was a student in a city with masses of great vintage shops. I have a workmate who wears nothing but second hand stuff and she always looks amazing and so cool. At the Christmas party her entire outfit cost less than I'd paid to have my dress altered weeps .

TBH the dress agency is so high end there's not much that would fit into my lifestyle, there's expensive flashy handbags and skyscraper heels in the windows. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Hmm I see your point. In fact if it's a market town I'd probably go looking for the gentlemen's outfitters.

soundsystem · 08/01/2018 08:26

I'm 33.

I shop at:

Top shop for skinny jeans
Gap for Girlfriend jeans
Boden for Bretons
Monki
& Other Stories
ASOS

I'm still mourning the demise of American Apparel, as nowhere else is as good for basic t-shirts (have a few from Gap and Uniqlo).

I like Cos in principle but seem to manage to make their clothes look scruffy when I put them on (rather than the sort of casual-yet-elegant vibe that others seem to pull off)

Floisme · 19/03/2018 19:12

Me! I'm bored witless ordering stuff and then trailing to the post office or the Hermes drop off because it bears no relation to how it looks online. And I'm fed up of paying just to try things on.

Give me a real shop anytime. And I don't even live in a good shopping area.

Thebluedog · 19/03/2018 19:14

Next, but that’s because I’m extremely lazy and like the guaranteed next day delivery

If any of the other shops offered that service I’d buy from them

Ellapaella · 19/03/2018 19:22

I'm 38. I mostly tend to buy from TopShop, Warehouse, French Connection and Hush.
I have a lovely local boutique that sells a lot of Scandinavian labels that I love - I prefer to go there over high street shops.
I often pick up the occasional bargain in Primark but I hate going in there to be honest, there's so much stuff I find it overwhelming.
I went through a stage of buying a lot of Boden and Joules and have no idea now why I did that - is really not my usual style.
H & M annoys me... I think they have some nice stuff but the quality is so so poor. Things just don't wash well and lose their shape so quickly.
