I will confess up front, I am completely the wrong side of 50 to even contemplate a pair of docs but I want them so bad. Went in to town today and tried some on so know my size. Gave up choosing though because it was just too busy and crowded and shopping hell.

The question I have though from those of you in the know is do I want 1460’s or pascals? I know the 1460 is chunkier and needs more breaking in but they seem so much more authentic somehow, and the pascal like a girly cop out.

Please help....or I might have to get two pairs and I can’t justify it!

I have brown Delaneys, and several pairs of 1460s including a pair I've had for 25 years. I also have a number of pairs of shoes - the Mary Jane's, and Adrian loafers, and a soft teal leather t bar pair. The newer 1460s need so much breaking in, but the Delaneys were comfortable immediately. Never hadd any Pascals though.

I'm in Australia on holidays and all the young things are wearing chunky black docs.

I had decided earlier to bring my cherry ones back to London with me and I'm really looking forward to stomping around in them Smile

GreenPurpleRed · 27/12/2017 21:08

And my pair are also nearly 25 years old and just nicely worn in. Docs are amazing.

Aspieparent · 27/12/2017 21:12

I love my dc marten I have pink welly ones, brown flowery ones, teenage mutant ninja turtle ones and just added these to my collection my best pair yet.

I'm wearing my 8 hole clemency docs in black, dd13 is wearing her red patent pascals and dd9 is wearing her pink glittery ones.... We are a dm family, back in the UK for 2 weeks and these are the only shoes we brought (apart from trainers).

jennielou75 · 27/12/2017 21:32

My ones I brought on holiday.....at home I have metallic cherry pascals, plain cherry pascals, fur lined biker style, smart cherry pull on Chelsea style......I love my Docs!

Aspieparent I have those!!! The children in my class say I am in a good mood when I am wearing my sparkly boots!!

Aspieparent · 27/12/2017 21:36

Jennielou I love them. When I brought them home yesterday ds2 kept hugging and kissing them telling me how pretty they are.

Pansythepotter · 27/12/2017 21:48

I know this does not help. I have just bought my first pair. I am 69.

theliterarycat · 27/12/2017 21:52

I now want to buy a pair so badly

Nineteenagain · 27/12/2017 21:59

Im 60. Got 4 pairs. Wear with most clothes.First pair i got 26 years ago i still wear.Well worth the money. All pairs bar first I got half price so agree with Fairylea

OneOfTheGrundys · 27/12/2017 22:40

Yes! My DM is 67 and loves her black patents.

ChishandFips33 · 28/12/2017 00:00

Pascals here too; purple and cherry red. So comfortable I walk miles in them.

Also have the fur lined taller ones in brown (cannot for the life of me think of their name!)

I'm not a typical doc person so took a few weeks to 'own' them but love them!

After another pair...possibly grey but like the sound of the khaki ones too Smile

Diamonddealeroncemore · 28/12/2017 08:19

I’ve just read this thread, went on to M&M Direct and ended up ordering two pairs of DMs. Oops! In my defence I’d seen someone over the Christmas break wearing some well worn tan ones that looked amazing so I was contemplating them (I had some about 20 years ago but haven’t worn any for ages) so that is my excuse....not sure how I can excuse two pairs though lol.

PurpleDaisies · 28/12/2017 08:20

Which ones diamond? Obviously they were such a bargain it was equivalent to buying one pair full price.

AquaAddict · 28/12/2017 08:49

I’m 50 and have been wearing and collecting docs for years. I have quite a few pairs now. I love them. My favourites are a Harris Tweed pair from eBay, black patent, black velvet and my vondas. Plus the shoes. I have some gorgeous Mary Janes.

And thanks to diamond I now have 2 more pairs coming. Red and white. How have I not heard of M&M direct beforeBlush. I’ve always wanted a white pair and the red is so pretty

Diamonddealeroncemore · 28/12/2017 08:55

I agree they were so cheap it would have been churlish to only order one pair! I ordered the softy ones in pink (I should add I’m 57 so this is a bit ‘out there’ for me but I’m way too old to care what people think!) and the Pascals in tan. They only had those available in my size so y’know it was a sign to me....

PurpleDaisies · 28/12/2017 08:57

I was really keen on those tan pascals but they weren’t my size. I am envious. I’ve got a purple pair of pascals which always get a lot of love when I wear them. I bet you’ll love the pink pair.

Diamonddealeroncemore · 28/12/2017 09:09

I’m really excited about them now!

Guacamowle · 28/12/2017 09:22

I got my first pair for Christmas this year - aged 55!! I got cherry red AirWair 1460s and love them! Also invested in thick knee length walking socks for the breaking in process and that has helped.

Doza · 28/12/2017 09:34

I've just got some unexpected Christmas money and was looking at some glittery Pascals when i saw this thread! Used tolive in Docs but havent worn them for years for various reasons.
Ive just tried my old but not fully broken in 1460's and they are very tight across my foot Blush
Are Pascals similar in sizing? I can only order online at the moment

CaptainBrickbeard · 28/12/2017 09:42

I’ve ordered the turquoise softies; I hope the sizing is right as it’s a long time since I’ve had any Docs!

Diamonddealeroncemore · 28/12/2017 09:47

I almost went for the turquoise but decided in the end to go for the pink. I’ve got wide feet so I’m hoping they will fit ok but I’ve ordered a half size bigger than I normally wear, I can always wear thicker socks with them. I had some walking socks for Christmas so they will be perfect for first wearing them.

WutheringFrights · 28/12/2017 09:49

Thank you OP!
I had totally forgotten about my Cherry Reds that have been languishing at the back of my shoe cupboard for many many years!
I bought them 24 years ago and they are utterly battered from being worn through all my uni days.
I've been saying for weeks that I need new boots so I'm going to dig them out give them a good clean and then work out what the hell to wear them with! 😄

Aspieparent · 28/12/2017 11:24

I think doc sizes are great. O have very wide feet always struggled with shoes but have never struggled with docs. Out of the 4 pairs I own only one pair took some breaking in the other 3 were very comfy from the first wear.
