Okay, so being a bit of a novice to the fake tan can someone tell me whther you put it on the dark areas of your skin....I'm thinking circles under the eyes and knees)

if you don't you'll end up with tide lines!!

sarahlou1uk · 22/04/2007 20:28

remember to exfoliate and then moisturise the knees before adding fake tan or it'll look like elephant hide and orange!!!!

tea42 · 22/04/2007 20:28

make sure you put a good moisturiser on your elbows, knees, feet & wrists, let it soak in and then put on your fake tan.

trice · 22/04/2007 20:32

don't put it on your face until you are an expert

hex · 22/04/2007 20:33

and what's the best fake tan?

Sackache · 22/04/2007 20:36

agree with sweeties, fakebake the best I have tried them all and I do use it on my face, but you will need to use a mit with it. Loreal sublime excellent and cheaper, really leaves your skin soft.

littlemissbossy · 22/04/2007 20:44

I second the loreal one, don't use that Johnsons holiday skin stuff it makes you orange, agree that you should exfoliate and moisturise before application.

where can you buy fake bake on the high street? or just online?

would you recommend the cream or the mouse?

and do you know the price, thanks

hex · 22/04/2007 21:11

helbel3...what do you mean you need to use a mit? Does it come with it?

Frascati · 22/04/2007 21:13

i am liking loreal nutrishimmer. The best fake tan moisturiser. I have tried them all!

hex · 22/04/2007 21:14

and do you put it on everywhere...how do you do your upper back..or middle back for that matter..my arms don't seem long enough!

OP posts:
Frascati · 22/04/2007 21:16

my dh does my back!

bozza · 22/04/2007 21:19

I think putting it on your own back would be a definite recipe for patchy/streakyh bits. I have a virgin vie one that I put on my face and it is rubbish. I put some on this morning and went into the kitchen and DH's very first words to me were "are you wearing some make up today", as in suggesting I looked like a washed out old hag which is that he says it to me and that he does when I have just put tan on.

thequeenofcontradiction · 22/04/2007 21:31

If you don't mind me hijacking the thread (seems silly to start another fake tan one) I'd like to ask what the hell am I doing wrong???

I'm pale skinned and wanted to try a golden glow (ha!) so I got some of that Holiday Glow stuff (the Neutrogena one). It said apply like moisturiser and in 5 days or so I'll have a lovely glow. I applied it once and am orange! I thought it would take a while (i.e. days) to develop but it looks like normal fake tan. But orange. And it stinks.

So am I doing something wrong? Is it my skin? the product? Is there something out there better suited to pale skin?

Thanks :-)

Flakester · 22/04/2007 21:35

Clarins creme gel for the face is fabulous. I'm a Johnsons fan for my body, but I'm quite sallow skinned so it probably doesn't look too orange against my yellowy complexion!

you can buy fake bake in some beauty salons, or online. I have the lotion, it goes on dark brown and you look really mucky, leave it on overnight then shower the marker colour off in the morning. I kidding not you will look as though you have been on holiday.

You can buy a mit in boots, it goes over the hand and stops you getting your palms stained. When you have done everywher take the mit off and run if over the tops of your hands with the bit that is left on the mit to get a natural look on your hands.

WanderingWanderer · 23/04/2007 09:22

The best fake tan for your face by a mile is Lancome flash bronzer gel (I have tried probably every product on the market much to the dismay of DH who can smell it a mile off when I approach the bed at night )

glitterkitty · 23/04/2007 10:25

I swear by fakebake- just remember to shave/exfoliate first. Apply wearing rubber gloves, then do backs of your hands last. It IS possible to do your back, but it takes a while and is annoying.

The fakebake mousse is great- only takes 4 hours to come up, then you can rinse off the top tint in shower and dress/go out. Dont wash with soap tho till later!

I'm ginger with very fair skin and it comes out a lovely reddy brown- not yellow. Have recommended to lots of very pale friends [smiole] Its the only one I have felt confident in going out in on 1st day when its just applied.

Interested to hear about the Dove/ Holiday skin type tan stuff- i thought it was just a con- that they were just cheap fake tan.

Hillbilly · 23/04/2007 11:28

Can you use these mild tanning moisturisers such as Johnsons or Loreal if you are pregnant?

helbel3 · 23/04/2007 11:45

i used fake tan whilst pregnant with all three children.

MrsBadger · 23/04/2007 11:49

yes, but maybe do a patch test first - some people's skin gets ludicrously sensitive when pg.
