Okay, so being a bit of a novice to the fake tan can someone tell me whther you put it on the dark areas of your skin....I'm thinking circles under the eyes and knees)

queenofcontradiction - I find EXACTLY the same! Tried the Dove one last summer and ended up bright orange as usual.

And I never understand why some products are supposed to be better than others and smell better - surely it is exactly the same (smelly) chemical in all of them?

It absolutely stinks on me as it develops, and it takes ages to get rid of the smell even after washing.

fwiw when I do use it (which isn't often) I always have to dilute those 'diluted' ones still further with body lotion.

mrcandmre · 23/04/2007 12:13

I use Dove summer body. This is after trying Johnson's version, and Garnier....both of which I found took ages to make any difference.
Recommend Dove

Another recommendation for the Lancome flash bronzer range, definitely the I've tried so far

themoon66 · 23/04/2007 13:06

I've used St Tropez for the last few years. It's lovely, but then I only put it on my legs as they are the whitest bit.

Am liking the sound of this Fake Bake stuff... can anyone do a link to the best website in this country to buy from?

And if you have to leave it on overnight, all dark and thick, how much does it come off on your sheets and towels?

FirstAtForty · 23/04/2007 14:09

Wandering - does the Lancome flash bronzer one actually have the fake tan chemical in it? (if so why doesn't it smell like the others?) Or does it bronze by staining the skin in some way?
Would love to find a holy grail of non-stinky fake tan for my milk bottle legs!

glitterkitty · 23/04/2007 14:27

themoon66- LOADS comes off on your sheets I used to change my bed and use an old set. Have to say, worth it for the tan tho!

I get my fakebake from www.fakebake.com.uk- altho you can kelkoo it and sometimes find it cheaper too...

Lysettes · 23/04/2007 14:39

if you have a space nk near you then Model Co is absolutely brilliant - even better than fakebake (was a fan for a few years). It's a spray and you can either get the one that does it instantly or the one that is colourless and develops - it's really hard to get it patchy as it's such a fine mist and you can turn the can upside down to help with the tricky angles. No rubbing or assistance required.

the instant one does stain your sheets though.

it's not cheap but lasts really well and the colour is not at all orange.

twinsetandpearls · 23/04/2007 21:06

how long does a tin of modelcolast, am thinking if it is worth just going fot a weekly spray tan.

twinsetandpearls · 23/04/2007 21:07

qvc sell models co self tan by the way

Lysettes · 24/04/2007 09:08

don't know how much spray tans are where you are but near me they are £25 each time. model co you'll get about 4 total body sprays per can.

UtterPigsty · 24/04/2007 09:10

i dont think there owt wrong with st tropez or johnsons tbh
i think you can over analyse

ScottishThistle · 24/04/2007 09:18

Ive got very pale skin and the best I've tried so far (tried about 5/6 already) has been the Loreal Nutri Shimmer.

multitasker · 24/04/2007 09:38

Is that Loreal nutri shimmer a permanent one or wash off?

SilentTerror · 24/04/2007 17:15

Agree, loreal Nutrishimmer great .Do a spray version now also.It is wear off,not wash off.

Frascati · 24/04/2007 20:53

Anyone tried the nutrishimmer spray?

BrightRedFace · 27/04/2007 11:30

I've got Rocacea (a souvenier of pregnancy!), but apart from the red bits on my face, I'm pale as heck. Any recommendations on a facial fake tan for outrageously senstive skin with big red blotches - rather like this in fact

SilentTerror · 27/04/2007 11:54

Have tried the spray, initially thought it was great but all spray tans seem to go patchy on me,am better with lotion/cream I have decided!

twinsetandpearls · 27/04/2007 21:14

i ahve gone back to my tan tropez whipped mouse and even though I say it myself despite strating off very pale, almost grey I do now look like a bronzed goddess.
