continuing the discussion from the previous thread about transparency and disclosure (or lack of) by bloggers

I do find it strange that some of the bloggers with OH’s that won’t appear on their blog for privacy reasons are happy to use their kids.
I would’ve thought that if a couple have different ideas about their own online presence, their attitude towards photos of their kids would be more along the lines of the most private parent not the parent that posts everything online.
I get that it is their job and they want to talk about being a mother, but I don’t like the idea photos and stories about kids who aren’t able to say one way or another if they want stories about their potty training etc online.

WrenDouglas · 15/01/2018 11:36

Omnis - I cross-posted with you! That’s exactly what I was trying to say, but not as articulately as you!

Pupsiecola · 15/01/2018 12:19

I have a friend who posted on FB that her daughter had started her periods, aged 13. It was a "congratulations on becoming a woman" sort of a post, specifically spelling out that her periods had started. I couldn't actually believe what I was seeing. I would absolutely hate my mother if she had done this to me.

I completely agree about bloggers posting about their children, and especially when their OHs are so private. AMR did post a picture of her husband once, in secret. I thought that was awful too.

Ithasbeenalongtime · 15/01/2018 13:03

I would have major issues with my mum if she posted about me starting my periods online. That's appalling! I agree that the mum and son's relationship must have got really bad to get to the point that he sued her. How sad for them both. My 7 year old has asked me not to post certain pictures of him on IG and I have my account locked and only have a very small number of friends and family as followers on there. He's still at the cute stage as well, imagine going through your teenage years online.

I'm always amazed by the bloggers who have husbands who clearly don't want to be part of the online life of the blog, yet are happy for them to post names of children, pictures of them in school uniform with school names visible, pictures of places that they hang out etc etc. Bonkers.

Omnis · 15/01/2018 15:11

Yes I saw the AMR husband post but it was removed as soon as he saw it. Strange he doesn't speak up for his two children. They even have their own Instagram ffs.

Putting details of a daughters first period online is as revolting as it is stupid. That poor girl.

I do hope children do turn round and sue if parents won't stop.

WipsGlitter · 15/01/2018 15:39

I follow one called the sculpted vegan and she also has an insta account for her daughter. She has four kids and they don't go to school and she's always in the gym. I find her fascinating!!

ElspethFlashman · 15/01/2018 15:44

Then at the other end of the scale is Giles Coren, who is so oblivious that he posts pictures of his kids naked on Instagram and then froths with indignation when IG removes the images for being indecent.

How can anyone with even a modicum of intelligence be so fucking dim? We drum it into our kids from being tiny not to share every personal detail on line, ditto photos because despite what they might think, once it's out there, it's out there.

And then we have adults giving their location, home address, the hotel they're staying at on holiday, the restaurant they've gone to on Thursday and their kids and their names, without a thought to security or any privacy for their kids as they grow up.

They're fuckwits, the lot of them.

Ithasbeenalongtime · 15/01/2018 19:58

I can’t remember who linked to the bullshitcallerouter account but so far this week they have tackled photo retouching, buying followers and agency “if you don’t like it, unfollow” responses to posts. They don’t pull any punches!

JackieReacher · 16/01/2018 09:38

Today I am mostly enjoying CLTS (she of the wealthy family) disagreeing with her followers about their ability to afford the clothes she shows (pictures of the £1500 or so worth of Bella Freud jumpers maybe? the £200 jeans? the gucci / chloe / victoria beckham handbags? or absolutely everything from & other stories?). She's "not sure that's strictly true" and in answer gives us affordable high street with & Other Stories (still!) £125 boots and £42 earrings and a pair of stan smith trainers at £44, a price which may apply if you are buying the kids version smaller than a size 3 but not to any adult ones, which are always £70.

Pupsiecola · 16/01/2018 09:43

Who is CLTS please?

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/01/2018 09:46

Completely missing the point of your post, but I got some Stan Smith from ASOS over Xmas that were in the sale for £24 (I'm a size 7). I just put them on my wish list and wait for them to go down Blush

After paying £95 for a pair of trainers (they were my DH's Christmas present to me) that subsequently dropped to £20 in the sale, I vowed never to pay full price for a pair ever again.

Delatron · 16/01/2018 09:51

To be fair about CLTS, I agree about Bella Freud stuff and cashmere but think @OtherStories isn't too expensive. Jumpers are around £60. I shop there and follow her so it's all about following who shops in your price range (designer I can't afford). Her jeans were Top shop and I'd quite happily spend £70 on trainers. It's those Golden Goose £250 trainers which are ridiculous it she shows a fair range of stuff.

Delatron · 16/01/2018 09:52

Chloe Loves To Shop

Pupsiecola · 16/01/2018 10:53

Thanks delatron

ElspethFlashman · 16/01/2018 10:57

@bullshitcallerouter are definitely employing a scorched earth policy that's for sure! It's the most entertaining thing I've seen in years.

All those products the Irish bloggers put out? They buy them on Ali Express and put a massive mark up on them. Insane.

The comment section is hilarious though.

chloechloe · 16/01/2018 13:23

Looks like Jo Malone has just dispatched a truckload of freebies, have seen about 5 bloggers showing them off today. Not that I'm jealous.....

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/01/2018 13:48

That bullshitcallerouter Instagram account is a real eye opener.

BootsAndCatsAndBootsAndCats · 16/01/2018 17:15

Not strictly S&B but Mrs Meldrum isn't disclosing a freebie holiday I suspect. The other day they posted about how happy they are to be working with Neilson holidays (they've been angling for this for MONTHS) and today they've posted pictures and a resort name for their booked holiday but no disclosure about their relationship with Neilson. Hmm

Ithasbeenalongtime · 16/01/2018 17:48

The Bullshitcallerouter account and the comments are fascinating. Today, more on buying followers (I have some suspicions about some other accounts based on the low levels of engagement on their posts Hmm) and bloggers trying to blag freebies from hotels. Really worth a read. The discussion around cheapo products being bought wholesale and then labelled up is definitely eye opening.

WipsGlitter · 16/01/2018 17:55

I had to unfollow Mrs Meldrum. So annoying. So faux posh. Undisclosed freebie central.

ElspethFlashman · 16/01/2018 18:26

"Last year I worked with Universal Orlando in Florida and it's been amazing for them!"

The cringe. OMG the criiiiiiiiinge........

Ithasbeenalongtime · 16/01/2018 18:54

Obv must bring BF along for the freebie as well (photographer) and essential to stay more than one night (make sure you get the right light for the selfies)!! (that one roof social blog post on this topic still makes me Shock)

AgathaMystery · 16/01/2018 19:52

Thoroughly enjoying these threads - I have found my people.

But. CLTS?! It's driving me mad. Who is it?! Are these people spies and we must protect their identity? I worked out Does My Bum look 40 & also Dress Like a Mum but otherwise I'm stumped.

Bullshitcallerouter is phenomenal. My be driving influencers mental that she has 58,000 followers from 56 posts. Ouch. Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 16/01/2018 20:00

I’d never come across CLTS before these threads. That post is a bit patronising but I agree with delatron - I buy quite a bit from Stories, and I would generally spend a bit more on decent jeans, although I have Topshop pairs too. (Also lucky to be able to buy children’s trainers!) I’ve unfollowed bloggers who do loads of “Primark hauls” because while I have no doubt they pay for all the items, it’s just not generally my thing in terms of shops.
