Which brands of nail polish do you recommend?

Had a mini manicure yesterday, never normally do anything with my nails. I can’t justify the cost regularly but I was thinking of treating myself to a decent nail polish for Christmas. Have no idea which brand to go for though. Are there any really great ones? Need to be able to get at Boots ideally (big store here with lots of ranges).

Rimmel are brilliant and cheap. 3 for 2 at Superdrug with a free £8 mascara thrown in at the moment.

LemonShark · 08/12/2017 19:03

OPI work best on me. With a good base and top coat (Barry m) and a refresher coat a few days in it can last almost a week on me with minimal chipping. I carry the colour polish with me when my nails are done to touch up chips with a dab and that gets more mileage from the manicure too.

I love Barry M for a cheaper option. TK maxx do higher end polishes like OPI and Essie cheaper than RRP if you want to experiment! Just make sure they're not too old/the formula isn't separated.

iloveredwine · 08/12/2017 19:30

opi or essie or rimmel are good for me as any other seem to only last a few days

dirtyprettything · 08/12/2017 19:41

Agree, OPI are the best

FurryDogMother · 08/12/2017 19:46

Another OPI fan here :) They have some wonderful Christmassy colours, too.

eloisesparkle · 08/12/2017 20:02

Sally Hansen brush is brilliant.
I only leave nail varnish on for a night so I don't know about long lasting. I don't faff around with base coats or top coats either Blush

Not keen on Sally Hansen. My faves are China Glaze & Nails Inc, followed by OPI & Leighton Denny. And I love Chanel, no colours like it. I've also just discovered all the wonderful shades at H&M.

I’m a decent convert to ORLY breathable. It’s made an actual difference to my nails.

Otherwise, Essie for the range of good colours, and Rimmel for the double brush.

roobrr · 08/12/2017 20:26

OPI, never chips, goes on well.

Timefortea99 · 08/12/2017 20:31

Opi are my favourite, for colour range and longevity. Kiki do a good range of colours at a great price. Leighton Denny has some great shades. High Street Chemists - Maybelline (the 7 day ones) really do have staying power but the colour range is very limited. Mavala has great creme shades, in small bottles, so if you don't use polish too often, they are a great find. Also a fan of Butter London.

Candlelight234 · 08/12/2017 20:32

I recommend rimmel & Barry m for staying power. I always use a top coat and base if I'm using a dark colour.

KungFuEric · 08/12/2017 20:32

I like Barry m for price and colour range/good coverage.

Mavala do great colours but they don't seem to last so well for me which is a shame.

My new source of polishes (buy at least two a week) is new look! Really nice range actually, well lasting.

Fauxtatoes · 08/12/2017 20:33

Essence Gel ones from Primark are bomb proof and I type all day. I use the Essence gel base coat and China glaze top coat.

NisekoWhistler · 08/12/2017 20:35

Opi for colour and seche vite for your top coat is a must. Be sure to watch some YouTube videos for tips

IndianaMoleWoman · 08/12/2017 20:35

I’m a hardened Nails Inc fan, particularly their base coat and top coat which seem to make even Diet cheap colour polishes last.

HermioneWeasley · 08/12/2017 20:35

Another China glaze fan here. Free quick delivery from nail polish direct. Co.uk

Ooo thank you everyone for the responses... lots of ideas for my shopping trip next week.

Buy yourself a uv curing lamp (cost around the price of 2/3 manicures), blue sky gel (Ebay similar price to a normal nail polish) and voila!!

Dozyoldtwonk · 08/12/2017 21:27

A Jessica fan here, by far my favourite brand.

Whatever you do, don’t buy Chanel. For the money they’re outrageously shit - it chips in moments, most shades I’ve tried have an odd pigmentation/thickness and the bottles go gloopy very quickly.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 08/12/2017 21:30

Nails Inc, China Glaze, L'Oreal and Revlon.

AnonEvent · 08/12/2017 21:33

I wear Sally Hansen base and quick dry oil, for colour I use OPI, boots17 (cheap and probably the longest lasting varnish I've used) or Maybelline (really nice brush).

JaceLancs · 08/12/2017 21:42

I quite like opi but Estée Lauder last best for me and don’t go gloopy even after years!

carrie74 · 08/12/2017 21:48

The Essie gel range is fantastic! Lasts a week on my nails, looks and feels like Shellac, but ones off with normal nail varnish remover and no lasting effects.

ijustwannadance · 08/12/2017 21:50

Nails inc caviar top coat makes even cheapo varnish last ages.
