How do you stop your face sliding off over the course of the day??

I’ve literally tried everything and I really thought I was onto a winner today, I did everything YouTube told me too:

Serum
Moisturiser
Primer
Foundation
Powder to set
Concealer
Powder to set concealer.
Spray with setting spray

And yet my face is so darn patchy and horrible and ugh, how do I get the dewy, ‘my skin but better’ look. Rather than the ‘ I have caked my face, randomly scrubbed bits off and now look a mess’ look.

I always had this problem until seeing a facebook ad for Wunder coverproof foundation, they're the same brand that make wunderbrow. My face literally stays put all day even in summer running round after two little kids. You can tell how good it is because if you don't sponge it on in the first few minutes it won't spread!

Interesting, I’ve seen a video on the brow stuff and it was impressive, what kind of a finish does the foundation give? And do Ok need to set it ?

what setting spray do you use? Urban Decay is the best none of the others work for me. I just use primer, foundation and the UD setting spray and it doesn’t move

Try foundation/ concealer / power as applying concealer over powder and then more power is just going to cake over your face. UD setting spray on top

I could use all of that and unless it's Estee Lauder Double Wear it's still not going to last.

I do find some setting powders are definitely better than others though. The cheapie Rimmel old school one is the longest lasting I've ever used.

I use a no7 setting powder over a Mac foundation. Then spray it with a Makeup Revolution setting spray.
The powder- concealer - powder thing was off YouTube (damn you YouTube). I think it was supposed to keep the concealer in place

I second the Estee Lauder DW comment, but even that slides off me from time to time. I find my nighttime cleanser makes a difference, so an expensive oil based one seem to leave a film on my face which means next day's make up is more likely to slide off. So if I really need it to last I use a cheap as chips strip everything off my face cleanser the night before.

Are you exfoliating? I find it makes a big difference.

Sorry, but what is this? Do you spray it onto your face? I've never heard of it.

Most make up won’t last more than 4-6 hours without at least powder.

Do you put your make up on right after your moisturiser? That will make it come off easier. I moisturise after I shower then get dressed and eat breakfast before doing makeup. Seems to help.

I can't get my head around the amount of layers, maybe the sliding off is to do with all the layers of stuff? Keep it simpler maybe?

I use serum, moisturiser and concealer and face stays intact. Just be careful about Youtube too, a lot of it will be marketing ploys. Or people that get commission from them.

I do:

• Serum (leave 5 mins)
• Moisturiser (continue straight away)
• Concealer (Rimmel Wake Me Up under eyes, Collection for blemishes)
• Foundation (THIN layer of Revlon Colourstay, buffed into problem areas with Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and then blended out to an even finish)
• Blush (Urban Decay Quickie, not much, lightly tapped on)
• Setting powder (not much, lightly tapped on)
• Finishing powder (Benefit Dandelion, cheeks only)
• Fixing spray (Urban Decay All-Nighter)

This lasts all day - I just buff the foundation again at lunchtime to ensure it doesn't separate.

Thin layers, Expert Face Brush and Revlon Colourstay made the biggest difference to longevity and natural finish for me.

i’ve used the revolution spray i thought it was awful and my make up just melted off. definitely invest in Urban Decay and I promise your make up will stay on all day

same as theonewhoknocks i also use revlon colourstay, they have one for combination/oily which is a bit thick but the one for normal/dry is thin and gives a dewy look

Have you tried Estée Lauder double wear foundation? Get a sample and you'll never look back.

I put mine on at 8 this morning and it still looks fresh, it literally stays on all day until you take it off.

Mac foundations always slide off my face no matter what.

Are you letting the moisturiser dry a bit before applying the primer then letting dry a bit too before foundation application? This works for me.

My make up has stayed put all day.

First I cleasnsed with simple micellar water followed by
TO buffet serum
LRP toleraine moisturiser
lancome primer
TO foundation (not the serum one) This is good for oily skin imho
Vichy loose powder
rest of make up

hope that helps, my skin is combination, oily t zone, and occaisional red cheeks which I need my foundation to cover all day

setting spray gives me congested spotty skin and EL double wear is far to drying and cakey for me and I like good coverage

I leave my serum and moisturiser on for about 5 mins each, but I have to be out the door before 6am so I don’t have too long to leave them to sink in.

I feel like the routine has become so complicated, maybe time to pare things down a bit. I’m not totally happy with the spray as sometimes I spritz and it melts my mascara off, not a great look.

I use cleanse and polish every night and give my skin a gentle rub with the muslin, would that count as exfoliating?

Are you using products that suit your skin type? If the products don't suit your skin, they can turn strange over the day - separate, look cakey, make you look oily, dry or patchy.

I've found that few, thin layers are better than many or thicker layers of product.
If you prefer high coverage foundation, then maybe you would benefit from finding a higher coverage foundation that you only need a thin layer of, rather than use a thicker layer of a medium coverage foundation.
Same with concealer - you might be able to find one that is more pigmented, so you don't need as much.
I quite like the Maybelline Age Rewind, but the shade range is awful - the lightest is too dark for me during winter. It covers enough for me, but the texture is quite light, so it doesn't seem to crease much - I do set it with powder though.

I don't think all setting sprays are worth the money - and some might be marketed as setting sprays, but seem to just cause the skin to go oily and the makeup to dissolve.

If you want the dewy look, maybe you should consider only using a dusting of powder where you really need it? A smaller brush might be better?

Watching this with interest. Bought double wear light the other week. Tried it out on a Sunday and nearly wept at how good it was, albeit a tad dark for my ghosty face. Wore it to work on Monday and it was patchy by 3pm and I could have screamed.

I find it's v v important to use setting spray after all your powder products (powders r, blusher, bronzer) but definitely before mascara. Otherwise as you've found, it just smears.

My bulletproof work routine is:

Serum + moisturiser + primer (the soap and glory one) but I don't spend much time in between.

Then the Double Wear and under eye concealer, rubbed thickly and haphazardly in, then hurriedly buff the excess off with brushes.

Slap an absolute shitload of the Rimmel Stay Matte powder on, followed by blusher and bronzer.

Examine how cakey I look on a scale of 1-Geisha. If particularly floury, spritz a bit of Mac Fix+ to look vaguely human again.

Go to town with Urban Decay All Nighter.

Brush teeth whilst it dries.

Eyeliner + mascara.

Out the door.

Works well for me. I never have to really look in the mirror at all at work. Result!
