How do you stop your face sliding off over the course of the day??

I’ve literally tried everything and I really thought I was onto a winner today, I did everything YouTube told me too:

Serum
Moisturiser
Primer
Foundation
Powder to set
Concealer
Powder to set concealer.
Spray with setting spray

And yet my face is so darn patchy and horrible and ugh, how do I get the dewy, ‘my skin but better’ look. Rather than the ‘ I have caked my face, randomly scrubbed bits off and now look a mess’ look.

I don’t necessarily want a heavy coverage, just for what I put on in the morning to stay put.
Riskit, your first paragraph describes exactly what’s happening, I will try and go lighter tomorrow and skip the spray.

Serum AND moisturiser?

Doesn't that make your face mega greasy?

InTheRoseGarden · 07/12/2017 19:30

I skip moisturiser. Mister Mat Primer on bare skin. I know it's not ideal but there's no way my makeup would stay on all day if I had moisturiser underneath it.

I don't like the look of EL Double Wear. People look caked in makeup in it. Maybe OK for going on TV but not for every day.

You need to make sure your primer and foundation are both silicone OR water based.

This tells you how to determine

My morning routine is:

  • wash face with Liz Earle
  • The Ordinary Niacinimide
  • The Ordinary primer
  • L'Oreal Infalliable Matte
  • NYX translucent setting powder

Then additional makeup. It doesn't really budge bar around my nose area. I wear operating masks on and off all day and it stays put.

MAC translucent finishing powder is the best for making makeup stay. Part of their prep + prime range around £20 I think. It lasts ages. I only buy around two a year.

Oh this is one of my major bugbears! Interesting that some folk find that moisturiser makes their make up slip off... never thought of that being the problem! I found Nars luminous foundation and Laura mercier translucent powder to be the best combo so far!

For those who use Estée Lauder double wear, are any of you pale? As in lightest foundation shade pale. I have a darker one for when I have a tan but when I’m my natural pale state it’s far too thick and doesn’t sit or look right on my face!

MightyMunki · 08/12/2017 12:45

Ok so today I went for:

Moisturiser
Cc cream
Concealer
Powder over concealer
Blush

And it’s holding up a lot better, not patchy or caked at all, has lasted nearly til lunch whoop! Progress!

I'm using the ordinary nicanamide too & my face isn't oily at all today. Usually people think I'm sweating Angry
