Black Tie Puzzle

Ok, I am finally actually going to this Black Tie thing next Tuesday. It is a geeky black tie thing, and DH is sure he's seen lots of blokes there just in regular suits. My clothing options are:

  1. Dress from Oasis . I already own it. I'm not sure it's formal enough. It does suit me.
  1. This dress . It's lovely, and silk. Above the knee. Quite funky. Bit too low cut, but whatever.
  1. Go shopping.
  1. Silk double-breasted trouser suit with either a man-style shirt or a blouse.
  1. Quite boring but ok long viscose black thing with beading.

Opinions?

Hmm, I think black dress is rayon maybe? Not sure. Not really crepe-y (I think? It doesn't smell of lemon and sugar, if that helps), it's a bit stretchy.

now I have seen you in 2 I see what you mean - it IS fab and lovley and wonderful - but not really black tie. The long black dress is good but I am not keen on the jacket - is it a bad pic? F&Z says better in RL.

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 20:30

I love dress 2 but I think it is TOO SHORT for this event

DimpledThighs · 19/04/2007 20:30

YES! it is too short for this kind of thing - exactly.

MrsBadger · 19/04/2007 20:30

why did you not mention the green jacket wehn we were discussing this before?

it is fabulous

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 20:31

ps arms def not fat, but obviously you need to avoid standing like that ever again

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 20:31

and I DIDN'T order a playsuit

I just said I liked them

I could wear green jacket, black sweater, black silk trousers?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 21:23

The green jacket is newish. Frances was going to buy her own just to mock me.

Green jacket, black sweater and silk trousers could absolutely work. And I have a deeply risible pair of men's dress shoes, which have pinstripes on them, and also flowers, which I never get to wear enough.

MrsBadger · 19/04/2007 21:23

you have black silk trousers too?

wear the buggers ffs

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 21:24

No not JUST to mock you

just that I saw it for sale and I really really did like it

NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 21:24

Black silk trousers are half of the black silk trouser suit. It's actually what I was married in, sorta. Ok, I'm not trying on more things tonight, but will try on trousers, black sweater and green jacket tomorrow.

I really should shop at Spitalfields more, they have such nice things there.

Ok, then I'm done. I will be v comfortable in trousers, not least as I have a cross-London weirdo journey to make, which will be nicer in trousers.

Damn, does black tie mean I can't take my knitting?

OP posts:
fishie · 19/04/2007 21:30

jacket is lovely, will be fab with trousers. but why a jumper? won't you be hot? a nice camisole instead?

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 21:36

Yes I plan to return to Spitalfields with MONEY next time
there were about 4 things I really needed to own

NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 21:37

I don't really wear camisoles ... The jumpers I mean are dressy ones, short sleeves, thin fabric. Jumper isn't the right word, really.

I do own a camisole, I think, but it only looks good under things.

(Frances, I can't explain the shoe thing, I just don't go without socks etc. Partly overly sensitive smelly un-pedicured feet, excema, etc. Partly picked up hangup from my mom. I do own a few pairs of casual sandals, but basically never wear them. Oh, I can wear crocs without socks, but that's not really the right look here, is it.)

NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 21:37

Hmmm, I do have a silk/cotton blend tshirt that might work, but I think it's less black than it once was.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 21:43

Oh, MrNQC is now saying he likes the star dress (well, he's always liked it) but that it seems less norkish than it once was. I couldn't find my scary balcony bra type thing, but anyway, it used to be more low-cut, I swear. Maybe it's looser from weight loss so sits better? Weird.

He's not warm about trousers, but will be fine about them.

OP posts:
fishie · 19/04/2007 21:43

how high are the necks of these things? keep jacket on and just wear vest.

dp used to have studio in spitalfields, evicted for development

NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 21:51

I can't just wear a vest, I will get warm and take the jacket off, and I'm not doing topless, really. I'll try to find something relatively skimpy to wear underneath, though.
