Black Tie Puzzle

Ok, I am finally actually going to this Black Tie thing next Tuesday. It is a geeky black tie thing, and DH is sure he's seen lots of blokes there just in regular suits. My clothing options are:

  1. Dress from Oasis . I already own it. I'm not sure it's formal enough. It does suit me.
  1. This dress . It's lovely, and silk. Above the knee. Quite funky. Bit too low cut, but whatever.
  1. Go shopping.
  1. Silk double-breasted trouser suit with either a man-style shirt or a blouse.
  1. Quite boring but ok long viscose black thing with beading.

Opinions?

I could wear the green shoes with the green jacket with the black dress.

That jacket is lovely, as you say the dress doesn't really show up on a photo though. Will you be too hot if you wear a jacket all evening? (I always have to walk a fine line between being as covered up as possible to hide most of myself and not being too hot, I usually end up too hot.)

NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 19:50

Ok, that was my head exploding from impatience. Now I'm going off to sulk.

Hmm, I will be too hot and will no doubt take the jacket off.

Actually, the dress is very very long and quite light. And short sleeved.

I might even get away with wearing knee high tights, as it really is ankle length, and that would keep me from boiling to death.

I just figure the jacket gives it enough zing that I won't sulk for wearing it.

Oh yes, that's lovely

I had forgotten quite how nice the jacket was

It will look fab and very elegant and striking

NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 19:51

I like the starry thing, but I think I've gone off the idea of wearing it to this. It really is lowcut, I fear my nipples showing. Amusingly, as I asked for it to have a high neckline when I ordered it.

Why would you need tights???

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 19:52

It doesn't look matronly IRL

NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 19:52

a) have to shave pits

b) very norkish

c) DH not warm on it

Otherwise, it's great.

I have a pashmina stylee thing that goes with it for warmth etc.

Oh, I think I need to wash #2, but it's silk - is that handwash? Or dry cleaning?

I never go without tights or socks or something, I think tights is better than socks.

I don't own shoes to wear without tights, and just don't get on with the whole 'no socks' thing.

Oh good luck

you know when you start actually examining them, they are all pretty leggy at that age

but it is worrying for you and I hope you can cram some lard into him

I really like the Oasis dress. If it is a nice cut and suits you, you will be comfortable. I don't think it looks too casual.

5 is fine but only if you would feel happy in the dress once you take the jacket/scarf off.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 20:05

thanks cod, I will upload pic of me in dress. I am warming to #2 now again. Am a bit that you are recommending it, thought you were into more, well, normal, clothes.

Ok, here is stars with me in it. I don't think my arms are actually fat, like they look in the pose.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 19/04/2007 20:11

I think I would be fine in the dress without the jacket, I just have more zing with. I have some good jewellery that will liven it up.

I do like the Oasis one, but it does look a bit daytimey. I think I will save it for the next wedding, maybe ...

Is everyone fleeing in horror from the sight of me in that dress? Wandered off in boredom?

From what I know, the correct thing to do at this point is to decide I want to wear a playsuit instead, order that, then go back to one of the original choices?
