What do you wear to an Awards "black tie gala" Presentation?

When you have been nominated for a business award?

If it was day time - I'd know what to wear

If it was media/arts - I'd know what to wear

But Business/Evening/Black Tie - I haven't a clue?

Please help (not necessarily with an outfit to buy - but more with a style/idea of what sort of thing to wear - if that makes sense)

Oh go on - you know you want to.

You could auction his pic for a Mile for Maude. Along the lines of "Once I have raised £X from now I will post this picture for an hour"

Who needs the mile - you would make a fortune

I was awarded one of these. I worse an evening trouser suit type thing. Most people wore cocktail dresses or ball gowns!

gess · 17/04/2007 21:16

worse? wore! I looked mighty fat in the local paper though. If I was doing it again I'd go foor long cocktail dress. Really the photo of me was terrible. And of course everyone saw (I told no-one )- plenty rang up to coment on the 'what happened to your neck?' photo.

Katymac · 17/04/2007 21:19

That's what worrys me - the photos in the paper

I guess a longer dress would be more suitable

Bummer I don't have a new one only an older one (if it still fits)

STRESS

As long as it isn't pastel pink or lilac or have a meringue skirt it will not look bridesmaidy.

Katymac · 17/04/2007 21:24

I'm hoping to wear that dress when I compete (latin) at Blackpool in november......it is suitable for that

I will need something longer for the Ballroom so I guess I could buy something

Hmm what?

OP posts:
SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 21:26

not bridesmaidy bargain price not sure on length though

Katymac · 17/04/2007 21:27

It's very....um bare

I need starps to hide my industrial bra straps (made by Camel Lairds)

OP posts:
SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 21:28

As in I am not sure exactly how long it is - oh why don't they use models any more????

The shape would make it look longer in any case.

Katymac · 17/04/2007 21:29

I have this one - it's a bit casual isn't it?

OP posts:
SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 21:32

IMO - that is too casual

SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 21:39

Would go with your beautifully Immaced legs tho

Katymac · 17/04/2007 21:39

I thought so

OP posts:
Katymac · 17/04/2007 21:42

Huh - don't do Immac?????

OP posts:
SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 21:43

I like this but I am guessing that halter neck might be out due to industrial bra required?

Katymac · 17/04/2007 21:46

Yep

OP posts:
SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 21:52

I don't have that problem!!!! - haterneck seems quite 'in' at teh mo

how are you with green?

There are quite a few that I like on that site...have a browse

Katymac · 17/04/2007 22:00

Like green - not that shade

Oh I'm tired - I'll have a look tomorrow

OP posts:
SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 22:04

I give up - I don't really do style....but I hope you have some idea of the type of thing I woud wear.

Hey start a thread - if Franny can make 500+ posts about a skirt for a childs B'day party I am sure you can make a few for a dress for such a glitzy occassion....

Katymac · 17/04/2007 22:08
